The Dreamcatcher

This bed and breakfast is truly unique, the experience is a must you will not be disappointed. We booked the dreamcatcher suite and it was very clean, looked exactly like the pictures. The outside bath and terrace was perfect place to relax and really experience the island life. The staff is so helpful, there is not a question they can’t answer! They dreamcatcher is within a gated community, I felt safe and comfortable during my stay. Such a cool and different bed and breakfast !

This is definitely a divine guesthouse! A beautiful beach house full of sweet calming scents and more importantly, only good vibes! Full of zen and harmony within every single detail!!! There isn’t anything that the owners of this place have not though about! I’m in love and only wish I had stumbled here sooner before my last night in Puerto Rico! The staff is also very friendly and welcome you. There’s probably so much more to say but words cannot express and pictures don’t do justice! All this from a hammock on the gorgeous patio

We decided to spend one night further away from San Juan to check out la placita. This place was awesome. Super affordable (80 a night) and the staff was extremely friendly. There was a communal kitchen so we met a bunch of other guests. The outdoor showers were really fun so not having our own bathroom was not an issue at all. They provide coffee, towels and small bar soap. You need to bring your own shampoo!
There are plants and lizards everywhere! Also it’s super close to the beach. I will definitely be back!

What a beautiful B&B! I rolled in super late after a full day of missed connections — then booked the quickest room I could find — just my luck that I’d find the Dreamcatcher! Andrea was super sweet, checked in on me several times to make sure I was en route from the airport — gave me a quick tour and let me get right to sleep. I was so excited and amazed by the beauty of serenity of this house — I wish I had more time! The outdoor shower and balcony are such a nice touch. So many little thoughtful details like incense in the room, candles in the hallways, books, hammocks, and the lush gardens. I will definitely stay here next time.

Probably the best BnB place I’ve ever been to in my traveling experience. Beautiful layout and great interior décor for the rooms. They even offer fun activities throughout the day, we tried a salsa class and had a blast. It’s been a few months since I stayed there but time to time I still think about how great my trip was mostly due to my stay at the Dreamcatcher. Can’t wait to go back on my next vacation!

The Dreamcatcher was such a find! My husband and I recently honeymooned there and it really made out trip! It was such a welcoming, relaxing, clean, cozy, and eclectic place. I can’t imagine spending our down time anywhere else. The staff was wonderful, the food was AMAZING, and it’s within walking distance from the beach… what more could you possibly ask for? It was well worth the money and will make anyone’s vacation that much more special!

Purely a review of the service trying to BOOK this place. I was not able to book due to miscommunication but after Stephan contacted me, and we were able to figure it out. They have a minimum night stay of 2 nights. Which I look forward to booking next time I go to PR.

The Dreamcatcher guest house is just amazing! You couldn’t believe the fact that it looks better than the pictures (and the pictures are just dreamy!) Perfect location just 1 minute walking to the beach. Very safe neighborhood where you can find a lot of international restaurants and bars. the rooms are so clean and beautiful decorated!
I totally recommend it!

If you find this place online, you might think there’s no way it’ll look as beautiful and neat and cool and welcoming as it does in the pictures. You’ll be wrong – it’s exactly as advertised. If you want to know what you’re getting, just look on their website and their IG (@_the_dreamcatcher, and @chefjeromepr for the chef’s private account). The rooms really do look like that. The breakfasts from Chef Jerome really are that photogenic. The dogs really are that sleepy and cute. Etc.
Most reviews of this place are effusive, but here and there you find negative ones that seem well thought-​out and sincere. And because the rooms have a lot of quirk, and because it is not a typical hotel, these reviews might cause you to worry, or at the very least, wonder what you’re getting yourself into. Instead of telling you why Dreamcatcher is awesome (their website and other reviews do that nicely), let me spend this review dispelling the concerns I saw raised:
* Noise: Not a worry. I was here 5 nights with every or nearly every room booked – quiet ruled, and signs reminding guests of quiet hours (10pm to I think 8am) were posted everywhere. From what I can tell, reviews complaining of noise are extreme outliers.
* Mosquitoes: I have only my stay here to judge, but, this wasn’t an issue. Obviously there were mosquitoes – the house is in the tropics, it has outdoor areas and terraces galore, and it’s full of plants and fountains – but I didn’t get bitten much despite showering outdoors every evening and spending plenty of other time in the outdoor areas. If you forget to bring bug spray, they have some. (Note, I was here mid-​December – no idea if this is high or low season for mosquitoes.)
* Shared toilets: Some of the rooms don’t have en-​suite facilities, some do. I stayed in one of the three «Designer» rooms, which have a private terrace with outdoor shower and sink, but share a toilet between them. The shared bathroom was kept so clean it looked unused, and the loveliness of the outdoor shower made up for the very minor inconvenience of having to walk nine feet down the hall to poop. If the en-​suite rooms are booked and you’re on the fence, I’d say don’t worry about this.
* Hot water runs out in the outdoor shower: Not in my experience.
* Only hipster youths come here: Nope. I saw a wide range of age, ethnicity, and nationality.
* It’s more like a hostel than a hotel, lovely but low-​service: Not true. If anything, it’s more like some kind of hybrid of spa and B&B. They have on-​site and on-​the-​beach yoga, meditation, in-​room massage, incredible breakfast/​brunch daily and optional private lunch if you ask the chef to make it for you. The rooms are very well cleaned, the towels plentiful and changed daily if you want them to be. The staff are not typical hotel staff, it’s true, they’re more like casual B&B hosts, but they’re professional – if you need them to book you a taxi or a tour, they’re on it.
* It looks too nice to be real: If you’re skeptical because you think their marketing pictures are just too nice, all I can say is that the pictures are how it looks.
So hopefully that dispels your concerns, if you have them. And after five full days, I had maybe two complaints:
* My room, while delightfully arranged, didn’t have enough storage. It would have been nice to have an armoire or drawers, or just some more shelving in the closet. Because of the lack of space, we had to colonize the beautifully arranged book/​knickknack shelves and put our stuff on/​around them. Having your mouthguard out next to a beautifully craquelured Buddha kind of diminishes the effect.
* My bed was too soft.
I mention this less to complain than to give you a sense of how there isn’t much to complain about.
Tips:
* Free beach umbrellas and coolers, towels and chairs. I think lots of hotels charge for these things and don’t even offer them all. Note that the house’s supplies aren’t limitless – they have maybe 10 – 12 chairs on hand, and ~5 umbrellas, but in my experience some of everything was available at any time.
* Fair-​skinned people, take note: the beach has some good shade from palm trees, but the shade gets taken if you don’t go early. See the tip above about the free beach umbrellas.
* It is legal to drink on the beach. The beers and champagne in the lobby fridge are pretty nicely priced. You know what to do. (Just don’t go swimming if you do it.)
* You must absolutely have Chef Jerome’s three-​course breakfasts. You are a fool if you don’t stay in for breakfast, and an only slightly lesser fool if you opt for the single-​course over the three.

Dreamcatcher is the best! The staff is extremely accomodating, cool, and knows all the best spots. Great for vegetarians/​vegans who still want to explore local food. Clean rooms, close to beach, and there’s an iguana that walks on top of the fence some mornings!

We spent two nights in Ocean Park at The Dreamcatcher and it was amazing! Our room, the Glass Cottage was central, cozy, beautiful and unique. The proximity to the beach was awesome and we took full advantage of it. The tour we booked was safe, entertaining and run by a very knowledgeable and funny guide. Even the towels that were provided smelled amazing! Everything was thoughtful and unique and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay at The Dreamcatcher and hope to stay here again in the future!

The Dreamcatcher guest house is all about the experience. Every little detail of the entire place is exquisite and carefully crafted to keep guest’s comfort in mind and keep them curious. Sylvia and Stephan were very warm over email and I wish I could have had a chance to meet them. Gerrit was exceptionally helpful with all my million question about everything from sightseeing, safety and the dreamcatcher guest house.
The glass cottage was beautiful, the colors, the layout speaks so much to you as a resident. It was also really interesting meeting fellow travelers from other parts of the world.
If I wasn’t amazed already, their vegan chef Jerome cooked a storm with delicious vegan pancakes and hibiscus juice for breakfast!
No matter what room you stay in, you will love it!

Dreamcatcher has blown our expectations out of the water. I don’t think the 5 star review does it justice. What the owner & staff have done here is truly something special. We booked the designer suite over the phone with Stephan (who was a huge help) for 2 days and ended up extending the reservation for the remainder of our trip (a total of 5 nights) because we simply couldn’t imagine leaving sooner than we had to. Dreamcatcher is the epitome of relaxation and style. The level of quality far exceeds the price points here. Every inch of the grounds has been thoughtfully executed from the landscaping, decór, to their incredible vegetarian/​vegan in house chef. (This was a surprise to us but nevertheless a pleasant one) I almost hate to share this review because a gem like this is hard to come by and who wants to share?!

I was on a work trip to San Juan and stayed 3 nights in the Condado, Extended my stay for a day to chill and switched from a Condado hotel to the Dreamcatcher. This was one of my best travel decisions. After a stressful week of travel and business meetings coming on to the grounds of the DC was like a total immersion in chill. Many others have commented on the beautiful grounds, unique décor, excellent location to beach/​restaurants/​bars and the hospitable staff and lovely Sylvia and Stephan. These are all true. Taken together the DC experience is just that, it is an experience not just a room.
Readers may think that the DC is just for the hipster set. I am 64 and loved every minute of my stay. Taking a shower outdoors in the beautiful courtyard was invigorating in a way that the most modern hotel bathroom could never imitate. I stayed in the «Glass House» and could not have been more comfortable. It was like my own comfort cave in a tropical garden.
Followed Sylvia’s map and ate/​drank well with good value and better vibes.
The Ocean Park neighborhood is very safe and home to outstanding examples of PR architecture at its best, both modern and classic. Loved the beach. Not crowded but a great mix of tourists and locals. The kite surfers down the beach put on a show worthy of ESPN. Having a cold beer and watching these athletes skim across the water and then sail 30 feet in the air was fascinating.
Looking forward to returning with my family and booking room #9. It looks like a DC version of a penthouse.
Thank you Sylvia and all the DC staff for creating such a special place. In a world of conformity the DC is a standout travel experience that you will treasure long after your return home.

I recently stayed a Dreamcatcher for 3 nights and it was lovely. The staff takes great care of the property keeping everything very clean. I stayed in the junior sweet– and loved that I had my own bathroom and pretty outdoor shower. The common areas are decorated beautifully as are the bedrooms. If you stay here you must try the breakfast because it is delicious and the chef is very nice. One of the best perks of staying at this property is that it is truly only a 5 minute walk from a pretty beach! You can’t beat that! Oh and if you’re intp yogao– they offer yoga classes too.
The only con to my stay was that I did not have wi-​fi in my bedroom #11-​so I had to go to the common areas to access the web. I later found out that there are two rooms that have issues with wi-​fi– and #11 is one of them. But the other rooms don’t have this issue so don’t let this deter you from staying. Just don’t stay in #11 (junior suite) if you want access to wi-​fi.
It was a great stay and I will def stay here again when I visit San Juan, PR.

Absolutely Incredible!!! A must stay here in the Ocean Park area. The entire property is very welcoming and relaxing. Each room is different and unique. Breakfast is served each morning at 8am til Noon by Chef Jerome and the menu changes everyday but don’t worry about what is on for the day, each dish is amazing and incredible. We could not have asked for a more amazing and relaxing place to be at while seeing Puerto Rico.

I loved bringing my wife and I on our honeymoon here. Although there was water problems because of the drought I saw the management take care of its guests and did the best they could to make it an enjoyable experience. The details of this place is amazing and we saw the hard work that went into the design of the space. We really did feel like we were in a different world being at the Dreamcatcher. I understand this place might not be for everyone who wants everything to run perfectly, but we can tell that the people at the Dreamcatcher want you to have an enjoyable experience and we surely had that. If we ever get to come back to San Juan we will be sure to book here again. Having tried three different rooms on our stay we can say that every spot has its own character, just like every person we met at the Dreamcatcher. Thanks for an incredible honeymoon!

The Dreamcatcher is an incredibly special place, extremely beautifully cultivated and a total respite in the middle of San Juan. I travel constantly, and the care, beauty and positive spiritual energy surrounding this space is a very rare find indeed. I also have friends who run businesses of this nature, know how much care and work goes into something like this, and what Sylvia has cultivated here is remarkable.
Open spaces, art, altars, plants, lizards, everywhere. Really open feeling, like you are definitely a local «in the know» in PR.
I stayed for 5 nights, 6 days over the course of the week, I was a single woman traveling alone. It seemed more people stayed on shorter stays of a night or a couple of nights, mostly couples and a few groups of friends.
Breakfast was terrific.
The massage I had with Danielle, was one of the THE BEST in my life, and she is an amazingly cool woman. I had two. Definitely don’t miss– she comes to you.
My room (#2 superior) was in the front of the property, large airy, beautifully cozy. Really soothing green, amazing bed and sheets and great «feel.» (The only downside to this room is it is near the the entrance, so there is a «beep» when people arrive to the property to enter the door code. Although the B+B has a quiet policy after 10pm, if people went out and got back at 3, 4am, the beeps will wake you if you are a soft sleeper.)
I always think what truly defines the integrity of a boss is the way her/​his staff or team with speak about her/​him. The staff at DC were over the moon with living in PR, many as young sweet students in their 20’s enthusiastic to serve, patient with the soft lull of island time yet «on it» and getting you what you need by mainland standards. (Also a tricky thing to find in any tropical locale.)
A little about the area: I had never been to PR, and personally found it a bit more «on the up and up» than expected. I did not have a car, and wanted more of a quiet experience for my week. For people who did rent cars and were hopping around the island, it seemed an ideal stomping ground.
Definitely this is a place for the alternative traveler looking for something more loving, small, authentic. For that person, this place is ideal. Reminded me of Fire Island near NYC which is one of my favorite places on the planet. You need to be open enough to, say, walk in your towels to get to the outdoor shower. (If you don’t have a room with bath in it, as I did not.) This was fine for me, but to note– might make some uncomfortable, so get a private bath if you think that’s you. You cannot beat the price.
It is incredibly close to the beach– a block and a half, and you can walk back and forth several times a day. Something important to note: On the weekends, families and locals descend on the beach. All of a sudden, it is crazy crowded, lots of music blaring everywhere and lots of beer being poured. M-​F was completely opposite, totally quiet lovely abandoned stretch of beach. If/​when I come back to stay here, I will make sure it is not over the weekend.
A 5 minute walk-​away is also Ashtanga Yoga Puerto Rico. They have classes on site at the DC, but I just wanted to note, for anyone who is a yogi, this studio/​school is top-​notch in authenticity, experience love– not to miss if you are looking for the real deall.
I walked a bit of San Juan and the other hotels, many dilapidated, some «fancier» and more corporate, in my mind could not hold a candle to the dream catcher. I went to the W on Vieques after this for a wedding, which was decidedly more posh and 3x as expensive, and I preferred the service and care of The Dreamcatcher over that resort.
There’s a reason this place has an average of 5 stars. They most decidedly deserve it.

I just spent three nights here and I really enjoyed it. A couple of very minor glitches but nothing to lose a star over. :)
The house is lovely. It has a very Bohemian, vintage feel to it; kind of like the one you hope to attain by shopping at Anthropologie. ;) If I tried it, it would look cluttered and weird, but the owner here has a good eye so instead it just looks lovely.
You are told that you can leave toiletries in the bathroom. However, if you do, and there is no basket with your room number, they will be thrown out. Ask for your basket if they don’t give it to you. I only mention it because it happened to another reviewer as well.
The yoga teacher wasn’t aware of the Unilocal coupon I got upon check-​in, so I felt a little awkward, but she accepted it. I loved the yoga class. It was challenging and I felt great after.
And the breakfasts! Oh, so good. The second morning they were making omelets and I really don’t like eggs, so the chef made mea black bean patty. So delicious.
The staff is all very helpful and friendly. The house is in a gated community, which I didn’t know at first. It may have been written somewhere? If your GPS keeps telling you to turn down roads with closed gates, just keep driving. Eventually you come to the spot with the security guards who will let you in if you tell the where you’re staying. It threw me off at first but I got it. :)
I would go back. It was lovely.

We are giving the Dreamcatcher 5 stars for what it is. If you are looking for a fancy, posh resort this will not be for you.
When we first arrived to be honest we were hesitant about the neighborhood & whether we had picked the right place!
However, after settling in and an evening yoga class we had become one with the Dreamcatcher.
The ambience is spiritual, reviving and restful. Amazingly friendly people (I believe her name was Alexandria working the day… she was sooo sweet and helpful) and little lizards running around! Beautiful gardens, yummy kombucha and such a unique experience :)
Beds aren’t the most comfortable in the world but they gave us a pillow top for our mattress which changed our sleeping experience
Take advantage of Sylvia’s hand written map. Very helpful & full of awesome little places.
We loved the outdoor shower! Even picked an avocado from a tree & will be eating for dinner tonight.
As mentioned we were hesitant when we arrived but are now talking about our next trip back and who we should bring.
Please visit Café Mam, Verde Mesa, walk streets of Old San Juan & swim in ocean every morning. Gracias Dreamcatcher!!!
