The best I can say for Latin Star is that it really does stay open 24 hours. In fact during the very late hours of the night or early morning it becomes rather packed. They specialize in foods of Puerto Rico. As I have little expertise when it comes to Puerto Rican foods, I really can’t go into much detail or elaboration. I can say, however, that I had some of the better mofongo with shrimp here. Though without an actual diner counter, place is rather diner like in atmosphere with indoor and outdoor seating. My service was nothing special but adequate. The men’s room, however, was one of the most frighteningly disgusting of messes I’ve ever seen. That was mostly do in part because instead of flushing toilet paper down, they insist on it being placed in a rather little way to small of a basket. Hence, all over the floor you have toilet paper bearing unsightly as well as smelly brown streaks. Though I did take a photo of the unsightly mess, I didn’t post for fear that I might cause a viewer to wretch at the sight.

I don’t know why people are giving this place such bad reviews. Food was savory and authentic, beers cold and the atmosphere very casual. The only bad thing is the service is somewhat slow then again the food makes up for it. Breakfast coming up shortly!!!

I gave it four stars for breakfast. Try the French toast for a little over five dollars coffee is pretty good and strong great outside view of the ocean and the main street. Staff is very friendly and service is very fast. Also try the cheese and ham omelette not bad for a little over five dollars

Long wait times, rude waiters, bad food, awful experience. Will never go back. This is a tourist trap. The girls up front dressed in beautiful traditional dresses lure you in to the hotel and once you are seated the experience from there is downhill. Please don’t waste your money, there are better places on this strip you can eat at. To top it all they automatically charge you a 15% tip. We did not want to keep any tip because of this horrible experience. We tried to argue about it but got no where; the guy we were trying to speak to said he did not understand English! We just gave up, did not feel it was worth arguing at the end.

While the fresh juices are not a bargain they are delicious. We dined for breakfast or brunch three times within a week ¼−9. Service was perfect.

The Piña colada was good, but that was about it. The plantains were overcooked and dry. My spanish rice and beans were horrible and the shrimp was overcooked. My boyfriend’s red snapper was grossly undercooked. I would not recommend the food. The service was just okay.

Bah humbug… Christmas dinner in San Juan was sadly ruined by over fried brown food. The Pina coladas served in pineapples lured us in and were tasty. Everything else sadly failed to deliver… Munfungo, pernil sandwich, and lots of side dishes were far from the rich and delicious food we are used to in San Juan and Condado. My advice, pass on the inviting sidewalk seating and festively dressed men.

We had a very nice lunch here, the goat stew is fantastic! Very nice waitstaff and reasonably priced if you are smart enough to stay away from the fancy drinks.

If you are reading this and preparing to order, LEAVENOW. GO. We had a very long wait for the most disappointing meal of our life. Don’t be lured in with their seemingly authentic atmosphere. The moment you’ve committed yourself to an order there, the act drops. We waited for what seemed like forever, realistically like an hour for the«food» to arrive. During that time, we horrifyingly discovered a large consensus of prior Unilocal reviews complaining of rude service, long waits after ordering, and mediocre food. We ordered pork mofongo for him($ 13) and a beef stew($ 10) for me. We were brought 2 plates of mofongo which was strange. Given the small portion, I justified that they had split the plate for us to share. The pork slivers were inedible: cold, hard, burnt, bland. It was like eating twigs. The mofongo was cold as well, with a grainy, stale texture. It took 5 minutes to get the attention of our server, who actively hid inside and avoiding looking at us the one time she walked out. Finally, we politely and discreetly beckoned her over, and she gave us THEDIRTIESTLOOK, which is ingrained in my brain even 2 weeks later today. I inquired about my beef stew, which she denied that I ever ordered, and insisted we wanted two servings of the mofongo. The sweet final end was dragged out. A different waitress was quick to take the cash payment which obviously needed change. She ignored us until we went up to her requesting our change, then proceeded to have us wait while she gossiped with her coworkers. Please do not support this establishment with your money and time.

First off i would like to say that i dont like giving super negative reviews but here ya go. They entice you with the pineapples in front. Once you get in thats the first thing they offer. They are $ 15… Are they crazy. I should’ve read the reviews from previous Unilocalers. Roasted Chicken was straight dried out. Seems to have been microwaved. You know that taste. My wife had stew. It was horrible. Mosquitos ate me alive. And air conditioner showered my back. Staff was really nice and thats about it. Do not try.

Beware the 4.00 gingerale! We happened upon this place because it was so close to our hotel but, that was the only redeeming quality about it. We stopped in for breakfast/lunch and thus began our series of unfortunate events. I ordered the avocado salad and fried maws. After sitting for about 15 minutes, I was told they didn’t have them. Bummer. I really didn’t want anything else and made the salad my meal. It was average serving sizes but, the word salad shouldn’t have been used. It was a couple slices of avocado with some onion. :( My table mates each had wonky experiences. Let’s see there was the one friend who ordered the fried plantain turkey sandwich. The plantain was placed upon cheap napkins in an effort to soak up some of the grease. Instead it was stuck to her sandwich and it was not coming off. Or there was the other friend who ordered eggs, bacon and potatoes. Nice you say? Nice if you like hairy food. Upon informing our waiter about the hair, he kind of stood there like so… and? LOL! Needless to say we never went back. Oh BTW about that gingerale. Yes, it was 3.50…more like 4 bucks once you add in the state and city tax.

First if I had read all these reviews before coming here I would have probably not came but since I didn’t and I enjoyed the heck out of this meal I will more than gladly write a wonderful review of my visit here. My servers were not only speedy kind and friendly they made me feel at home and treated me like I was related to them. The food was well cooked tasty and my dish alone could feed two people. I ordered a piña colada that was The real Deal; Sweet and with enough run to make me tipsy with just one. Then I ordered a chicken soup that tasted like my grandma made it. As an entrée I ordered the churrasco(skirt steak) mufongo and omg! Delish! So to sum it up it’s unfortunate so many have had a bad experience here but either they’re listening and improving or its just a bunch of unsatisfiable guests. I appreciated good service and specially good food. I got both of them here and I will be back to try something new!

A-okay. Everyone has their own experiences, and while I will say that the wait time can be long, I enjoyed my meal at this restaurant. We were immediately seated, and we watched as several fresh pineapples filled with piña colada cocktails were delivered to other tables. We ordered our food, and we waited about 20 minutes for our food. We’ve waited longer, so 20 minutes didn’t seem unreasonable to us. The chairs are different, and a bit uncomfortable, but we were fine. I ordered the avocado salad and the mofongo with shrimp. Everything was delicious. My friend ordered a pork chop, which looked very good, so I snuck a photo of that as well. Coca Cola drink products, The restaurant is open 24 hours, so if you’ve had a long night of dancing or gambling, you could definitely stop here. Coffee is good and strong. I like visiting Latin Star. See pics.

I give this place 3 stars because they need more credit, the food here is not bad but not the best. I came here after checking in and it was the closet thing to the beach and we were hungry. We got the stuffed plantains with shrimp and it was GREAT and sandwiches to fill us up before heading to the beach. The waitresses are a plus

La-dro-nes I ate here on Wednesday for lunch, every thing was okay. Nothing special/spectacular. On Saturday evening, what a mess. A mofongo with cheese that on Wednesday was $ 9.95, they charged me separately $ 8.85 for the cheese and $ 5 for the mofongo. The crappy piña colada in a pineapple, $ 15. Thieves. On the menu the piña colada was advertised as $ 7 and no one asked if I wanted it «al natural”(bullshit). I could’ve done without the silly pineapple that’s been sitting out since lunch, I saw the lady on Wednesday preparing them. Let’s not kid ourselves.(That’s what I get for letting myself fall in to the«tourist» trap) All of this while one of the servers runs around like a chicken with his head cutoff barking out instructions to the rest of the staff. Skip this dump.

We walked in for breakfast, and after waiting and waiting and waiting — we got up and left. The place was EMPTY, but we went invisible to the server. Too bad we didn’t get to try the food. But we experienced the service. Not fun.

It is with great sadness that I have to give this restaurant a bad rating. I’ve had many good meals at this restaurant. However on my last visit everything changed. The service was terribly slow. They are so understaffed. They messed up the bill. All forgivable though. I ended up ordering to go because I didn’t want to miss my flight. I opened my beef stew on the flight home and began eating and a few bites in I had a SCREWINMYMOUTH! A wholeeeee screw. Like a real screw. Needless to say I’m never returning.

Worst. Service. Ever. I ordered the grilled chicken with yellow plantains and a mixed green salad on the side. Part of my meal came and I asked where my salad was. When asked if I wanted avocados, I said«no.» What came was a plate full of avocados on a little iceberg lettuce and two tomato slices. Not good. The chicken breast was juicy, huge, and I liked it. The fried yellow plantains were delicious. I finished, and no one ever checked on me one time. I had to wait and wait to ask for my check. This was about $ 31 before tip. Uncomfortable table, chair. My back was killing me! What I did see that I liked(but didn’t order) was a beautiful piña colada served in a whole pineapple with cherries. Beautiful! Get one of those and keep walking.
