We stumbled upon this place for lunch and it was quite a pleasant surprise. The staff is incredibly friendly and helped me to navigate the menu as a vegetarian. I ended up getting a chicken sandwich minus the chicken and it was delicious. The bread is fresh and caramelized onions are to die for. My hubby raved over the skirt steak sandwich… But was most impressed over the generous portion of delicious fries. No ketchup needed. The piña coladas are pretty delicious too. All around great lunch spot.

Tried trifongo for the first Time here and it was delicious, I recommend getting it if you go. The fish and chips(not so Puerto Rican but) was the best dish ordered in my group, all the dishes were super fresh but I wouldn’t suggest any of the sandwiches as they meat in it is a bit too dry. The menu doesn’t mention the price of alcohol before you order and I found the prices to be a bit expensive FYI. It’s a small, dim place, located in a very narrow uphill lane(like a lot of places in old San Juan). It’s not GREAT, but is good enough for a large group when there there a long wait in other restaurants in the area.

The mimosas and empanadas were amazing! Our waitress was so sweet and took time to explain everything on the menu. From the outside, this restaurant looks like a hole in the wall, but it’s very welcoming and delicious! Trifongo is the meal they recommend and it’s really tasty. I got the skirt steak Trifongo. My husband ordered the Pollo Encielldo(spelling is wrong for sure) and that was AMAZING! Rice and beans were flavorful, very good! I would recommend this place to travelers looking for authentic Puerto Rican food(like we were). Enjoy! I hope this place continues to thrive so we can eat here every time we visit!

Stumbled on this place during our walk through Old San Juan. We are local PR residents and have experienced a great amount of good food on the island and this place is up there with the best. We will definitely be coming back. We were greeted with the friendliest and most attentive staff. For lunch, we sampled a couple empanadillas(small empanadas). Delicious! I had the fish tacos filled with amazing grouper bites. My partner tried one of their signature sandwiches made on local bread and loaded with pernil(slow roasted pork), sweet plantain, sautéed onions and Swiss cheese. The sandwich was so huge we could have shared it and had nothing else. It was to die for… Pork cooked so well it just melts in your mouth. This place is definitely worth making a stop for lunch. We will definitely come back and bring friends and family here as well. ¡Buen Provecho!

Good ham and cheese Mallorca, great ratio of meat and cheese to bread. If the nearby popular restaurants are too busy, why wait in line when you can go here and get a good breakfast or meal for about the same cost and just as good of food.

The Cazuela tapas was to die for as well as the vegetable Trifongo! Best yet! The Piña Colada ice ever had! Definitely make it here of you’re in town!

Good local place on trolley stop 5. Latin food, good prices. Small but not crowded place. Good mojito, pork sandwich, meat empanada, trifongo was good. My picky son likes his chicken strips and fries. Would recommend.

We stumbled onto this place through the help of someone working a nearby visitor’s booth. She walked us to Fefo’s and made herself known that she’d brought two more people in. At first we felt we’d been duped as there were so many locals wanting to take us to their favorite authentic eateries(and I’m sure get paid to do so). During our stay there, we had the best Mojitos we’ve ever had(they use 7-Up in addition to Club Soda). We also had a very tasty skirt steak with Mofongo, amazing empanadas, and a great Cubano Sandwich. All in all, a great find! Highly recommended.

Had breakfast in here: bacon, eggs, pancake & breakfast potatoes. Was a bit pricy for the meal, but it’s OSJ and it’s expected. The nice thing about this place is that they do breakfast into the afternoon, so you don’t have to worry about sleeping in! The café con leche was delicious and the service was attentive.(Very little English though, so take your time.)

Stumbled in on this place during our visit to Old San Juan. It was quiet fairly empty place granted it was after the lunch hour. Ordered a Pina Colada which was tasty and then had a salad. Nothing crazy, just a light lunch stop. Would recommend checking the place out when you are in Old San Juan.

The food was amazing. We had the breakfast special which was only about $ 14.00 and it came with scrambled eggs, bacon, ham, bread and either pancake or French toast. They also have trifongo so that is a plus. Also the mimosas are delicious.

We ran into this place by accident. The place was kind of empty and we were a little ambivalent about going in, however, we were hungry and most of the restaurants we had called, and walked into were only accepting people with reservations. Of course we were seated right away, our drink orders were placed and we received them not long afterwards. I had the Passion Fruit Margarita for $ 5(it happened to be happy hour). It actually tasted like passion fruit! Unlike some other«passion fruit» drinks I’ve tried on the island which tasted more like guava(which I didn’t mind anyway as I like guava also). The drink was really good and had a good amount of alcohol in it. I ordered the Steak Trifongo with Garlic sauce and it was delicious! The sauce almost tasted like a white wine sauce, the Trifongo had the right amount of chunks, and the steak was very flavorful. Our friends had the Ceviche Trifongo, and the Chicken Empanada and all of them loved their food! Before we left, our server brought over free shots of Coquito for all of us, and those were really tasty too! The service and food were outstanding! I would definitely recommend this little place which could easily be missed or overlooked!

I’ll admit my photo doesn’t look the best. The green hue and ambiguous milky sauce don’t speak to the flavor of this mofongo. We had wandered around looking for a good spot and saw a lot of closed places. Insider tip: most of the restaurants are toward the south and east of Old San Juan. Fefo’s had a sign for happy hour. Leann and I love a good bargain AND we were hungry, so we sat down near the window looking out on Tanca. This had more of an upscale dive feel, if that is a thing. The happy hour drink special runs all day and is for 5 – 6 different drinks. We got two margaritas. Mine was with bitter passion fruit and Leann’s a sweeter local fruit. The sauce made this #2. It was liquid garlic, but soft. The chicken was moist and tender. It looked and tasted like it had been poached in broth. The smashed plantains were tasty and chunky. We closed Fefo’s down before our nightly stroll through the streets.

oh my god. Trifongo at Fefo’s(mine was vegetarian, my partner’s was pollo/chicken, and my friend’s was carmaronnes/shrimp) was life-changing. Delicious, fantastic flavors, and the trifongo was DELICIOUS. note for those who order the garbonzo bean bake — it is NOT vegetarian, there is ham in it. Everything was delicious, service was awesome,

Spent the day in Old San Juan after coming off a cruise. I asked a police officer in my mediocre Spanish where the best mofongo was, he pointed to Fefos. I was skeptical at first as I didn’t want to eat where all the other tourists were eating. My friend and I walked on and returned a little bit later. I definitely wasn’t disappointed, in fact, it had to be one of the best meals I’ve ever had. Fefo’s is on a little side street off Calle San Francisco. You really have to look to notice it there and wander in. We were seated right away, the menu is mostly in Spanish but it’s easy to decipher if you are even familiar with the language in the least. I had the churrasco mofongo [$ 15] with a glass of sangria [$ 8]. They don’t mess around with the portions. The mofongo was huge and flavorful, the churrasco likewise. I was so full after [but in a really good way]. The sangria was also out of sight, perfectly sweet with some fruit at the bottom. We shared the flan with whipped cream on the side [$ 3] for dessert, which was also incredible. I don’t think I’d be able to find a better flan in New York. Service was speedy, they accept Mastercard and US dollars, the servers were friendly. I think my meal at Fefos was the highlight of my trip to Puerto Rico. The bill came out to be around $ 25pp, so it’s definitely budget friendly and tasty! I can’t wait to go back.

Raining… need to refuel for me site seeing and there it was Fefo’s! Okay I got a sandwich BUT it was good!!! Chicken with onions, lettuce, tomato and a pesto mayo. mmm! I also got a sangria since I knew I’d be there a while… about half way through I noticed I instantly became care free, no more worries about the rain and getting to del Morro, I sat by the window and took in the afternoon. #bestsangriaever

After a long day of sight-seeing, I was hungry and hangry(angry from being so hungry). Fefo’s seemed like a decent choice as it was a block away from our hotel with decent prices and decent reviews. The restaurant was quiet, and the few other tables seemed like office-types who just got off work. Our waiter was beyond helpful and took the time to help us translate the entire menu when I didn’t have the energy or patience to figure it out myself. We decided on the Churrasco with Arroz con Habichuelas and the Pollo Piccata with Trifongo– both were all-around excellent plates of food. The churrasco was juicy and well-marinated; the pinto beans were flavorful and filling. The chicken had a great sauce, although the chicken itself was a bit dry. The trifongo, however, was the best thing on either of our plates. The contrasting textures of the mashed soft cassava, chunks of green plantain, and crispy fried plantain chips was SO good! I couldn’t stop picking at it even l after I was already full. I worried that the food would take a long time to arrive, as is usually the case in Puerto Rico, but the food was made to order(I could see the kitchen from where I was sitting), and it came out in an appropriate amount of time. This was a no-frills meal which was completely hearty and delicious and kept me satisfied for the rest of the night’s adventures!
