I went here three times over a week in old San Juan! My friend and i first noticed it because of the sugared Mallorcas on display that you can see from outside. Get a café con leche(even if you don’t usually get milk in your coffee!) and a toasted Mallorca with sprinkled sugar on top. It’s the simplest thing you can get here and this is the cheapest place I’ve been to in San Juan so far as a tourist… you can also get fried eggs, bacon and other simple breakfast items. This place is almost always crowded until noon, but if you decide to wait in a line, you should be seated within 5 – 10 mins(I thought it was worth the wait). The service is very fast once they get your order. I suggest sitting at the counter instead of tables because they attend to you faster at the counter. Bottom line, this place is cheap, has fast service, a great cup of coffee and Mallorcas for a quick breakfast or early evening snack.

La Pan de Mallurica was tasteful, good live music, very nice host. Nice place to relax, but lighting was very poor

Pan de mallorca was on point. Our server was a great person to talk to as well. Worth stopping by. Also had a live musician on a Sunday afternoon

Really cute old-school diner style restaurant specializing(I think, according to their name at least) in mallorcas. It’s like PR’s version of a croissant breakfast sandwich, and kind of tastes like a really crispy flapjack — I got my workout of the day in trying to cut it into manageable pieces. I had mine with ham, egg, and cheese; the sandwich came with one slice of Kraft and maybe two slices of ham, as well as a thin fried egg. Dusted in powdered sugar, so if you’re hopeless like I am you’ll get it everywhere as you eat. Café con leche got the job done, but tasted like something I could make with some Folger’s at home. As sad as that meal sounds, I really enjoyed it and thought it was a charming place to get a cheap, quick breakfast.

Came here to try the Mallorca because of Unilocal and was not disappointed. Wished we would of found this place earlier on our vacation. It was absolutely delicious. The servers wear old school uniforms and are so sweet. Café con lecha was delicious too. Nice and hot :) wish I could have this place back home!

This is a good, quick, diner style place. I enjoyed the quick service as we were catching a flight shortly. They hustled their way through, and brought us these funny little hard plastic cups of coffee. The mallorcas were good, although doused in too much powdered sugar. You can just shake it off. Fun vibe and good quick food!

We has the ham & cheese mallorca and café con leche. They took a bit to come take our order and the cashier lady was a kind of rude. However, the food and coffee was very good! The milojas pastry was heaven. Will definitely be back. The waiters were extremely polite.

The service here is so awful. No one stops by to check on you(i.e. Would you like something to drink with your meal?) or explains anything to you if you ask a question and they’re not serving you as your waiter. Say if you have a question about an entre or some such, and the person you ask is not your waiter, they will just shake their head at you and tell you to ask your waiter… Even if they’re not doing anything. The mallorcas are ok, more like a McDonald’s McGriddle with powdered sugar than anything else… But more expensive(ham, cheese, and egg for about $ 7)… Better to save your money and just go to McDonald’s for the same thing. Also had the tres leches cake… It was really grainy and the cake texture was a bit weird. Had another bite later to confirm my first impression, and yeah, it’s not good. I’m used to tres leches cake tasting better than this. Overall, food and service is disgusting.

The ham and swiss mallorca is as good as everyone says! Loved the dusting of powdered sugar on top. A perfect balance of savory and sweet. Best breakfast we had in town, hands down. Also got a guava paste pastry, which tasted pretty good. Lemonade was sweet, tart, and fresh and their café con leche is pretty damn good too. We opted for bar seats mid morning, around 10am and the service was friendly and very fast. Seats filled up pretty quickly around us, although turnover was quick. Affordable prices and a seemingly good spot for pastries. Definitely have some mallorca!

Short and sweet. If you go to Puerto Rico, you have to go to old San Juan to Cafeteria Mallorca for a Mallorca. A sandwich that can change your life. A local place that everyone loves. I don’t need to write much more than what has been written by other reviewers. Just go and discover for yourself.

This was a super cute greasy spoon diner joint that our hotel referred us to. Seemed very authentic, lots of locals. Waiters were friendly. Café con leche was tasty and the malloras are a must. We got the egg, ham, and cheese. It was a perfect way to start the day and quite the affordable breakfast!

Excellent breakfast! A Mallorca is a croissant sandwich. We loved the wad with egg and cheese. We also had a great omelette, offered as veggies with ham, but we switched out the hand for Swiss cheese.

Their restaurant title lives up to what it’s famous for — Mallorca. If you were to dine here, remember to try Mallorca! I got the egg, ham and cheese Mallorca and it was so effing good! I could eat it everyday! Mallorca all day errday!

Excellent, quick, delicious, with a fabulous diner-style ambiance but snazzily dressed waitstaff. Everything you could ever want in a San Juan breakfast. Reminder: papas will be fries, not home fries.

Run of the mill Puerto Rican diner with some delicious mallorca, which is basically sweet bread with powdered sugar used to make egg, ham, cheese, butter, etc. sandwiches that are grilled in what resembles a panini press. I tried the plain cheese mallorca and the ham egg and cheese, which I liked much better. It’s odd, having a sweet breakfast sandwich, but it really works. Perfect place for a low key breakfast while you’re out being a tourist or a quick snack in between the two forts.

Great little café in the heart of Old San Juan! The Mallorca sweet roll with ham and cheese is indeed excellent, but the real hidden gem here is the pastry case!!! Delicious, inexpensive local pastries! Freshly made! Super tasty!!! Friendly service, warm, quaint local atmosphere! My wife and I had a fresh frozen lemonade(for breakfast – yes!). And it was delightful. I am not a coffee drinker, but our friends are, and they said the coffee was quite strong and flavorful(it sounded like a good thing, as they had refills!)

Great find! We were originally looking for another spot but stumbled on this old Puerto Rico diner which was very busy and looked promising. Much to our satisfaction, the food was good! It is simple and the service is hustled, but that’s what makes this place. Good strong coffee! «Con leche» or black. Try the ham and cheese Mallorca and fresh OJ. The bacon and eggs were also great(crispy bacon). Their pastries in the window look tasty too.

This was the last restaurant I visited before my beautiful vacation ended in Puerto Rico. I arrived early about 7:30AM for breakfast and it wasn’t crowded at all. However, within the hour the place was crowded with mostly people ordering take out. The cafeteria reminded you of one of the old school diners. I sat at the counter and knew I didn’t want any eggs since I had been eating a lot of them for the week. The staff were really sweet and friendly just like most of the locals I met in PR. I decided to get some pancakes, bacon and coffee. When my plate arrived, I didn’t know what it was, the pancakes looked a little weird. However, the taste was good, they were light and delicious and I was relieved since pancakes are hard to mess up. The prices were very reasonable for the touristy area. I ordered their famous mallocar bread with ham and cheese to go for my plane ride later. Omg, I am so pissed I didn’t order one at the café because it was delicious. The combination of sweet powder and the ham and cheese was yummy. I’m definitely looking for a spot in NYC that sells these breads.

Ermargherd! I need this back home. It’s an old school diner type place serving up all the Puerto Rican goods on the cheap. They have a full breakfast and lunch menu but they specialize in mallorcas which is a sweet bread filled with cheese, grilled, and then sprinkled with powdered sugar. And the possibilities are endless; ham & cheese, egg & cheese, etc. I could eat this everyday. The café con leche was good and strong also. The place is small and gets very crowded, almost chaotic, but its organized chaos and the gentlemen working there are quick and make sure that you’re taken care of from the moment you walk in. It’s a great place for an authentic and inexpensive meal.

If you are looking for the legit and authentic mallorca in Puerto Rico, this is the spot. And they have tasty coffee — granted you like it strong and bold. We all got the mallorcas and were dreaming about it afterwards. We tried the mallorca at a different bakery that was closer to our hotel but it didn’t come close at all in terms of taste or texture. Highly recommend!!!

If you’re looking for a café/breakfast spot whet locals go, this is it. Diner environment. Highly recommend the basic Mallorca with butter — queso and ham are a delicious option too. It becomes picked after 11am and on the weekends. Just stay in line and keep an eye out for a table. Food comes out quickly so tables constantly clear.

Old school diner with a diner counter, older staff with old school outfits, and nostalgia… some classic stuff right there. Went for their well known Ham and Cheese Mallorca. This thing was amazing and just melts in your mouth. Arguably the best thing I had to eat in Puerto Rico during my trip. Also got the chicken mofongo. I was on one during this trip. Couldn’t say NO to a single mofongo.

This place is such a little gem! It’s a 1950s diner populated by mostly locals, which serves breakfast and lunch/dinner from opening to 5:30 pm. They’re best known for this no frills setting, no nonsense service, and delicious mallorcas. Originally known in Spain as ensaimadas de mallorca, and as mallorcas by Puerto Ricans, this delicious sweet-ish pastry is similar in texture to brioche and is sprinkled with powdered sugar. I’m a huge fan of their breakfasts which average at $ 5 for eggs, bacon or ham, and toast, with a cup of café con leche(late), and a mallorca with butter it’s closer to $ 9. They serve breakfast until closing, but at on a $ 1 fee for breakfast served after 11 am. Since discovering it, it’s our must-go-to breakfast place when ever we visit Puerto Rico. Our recommendation is to get the buttered mallorca and a cup of café con leche.

I read that breakfast isn’t a big thing in San Juan, so I shouldn’t expect like a long, drawn out process. But man, I wish it was here. After landing in PR we came here for breakfast. Café con leche and 2 mallorcas with ham, egg and cheese. They put powdered sugar on the top. You won’t be disappointed. I craved this breakfast for the rest of the trip. If I lived here, this would be a place I’d frequent. I’d also suggest getting a few quesitos to go.

Wow! This place is one of the best breakfast I have ever here in PR. Mallorca with cheese ham and egg is highly recommended. They also added white powder on the top of Mallorca. You would expect long lines for this place.

Don’t order American breakfast at a place with the specialty literally in the name. Remember, salchichas(which does translate to sausage) in Puerto Rico are those weird Vienna sausages. The mallorcas are a religious experience. So soft. So tender. They disintegrate immediately on the tongue. And somehow, though it’s entirely buried under pounds of confectioner’s sugar, it’s not sweet. Perhaps it’s the ham lunchmeat, egg and Kraft cheese shoved into the middle of it = breakfast sandwich. Oh, and they have mallorcas to go in the window, along with other pastries: quesito, pastelitos de guayaba(puff pastry napoleon with guava paste), cookies. And all for $ 1.40 if you get them to go! Strong café con leche. 50⁄50 mix of tourists and locals.
