I came with my family for breakfast and the food was really good. We had their specialty sandwiches, Mallorca Bread toasted with butter, espresso coffee and freshly squeezed orange juice. All food was really good. The service was not excellent and it took time for the server to bring a smile. Still, I recommend the place for the food and reasonable prices taking into consideration that it is in Old San Juan.

We tried this place at the recommendation of several locals. We were looking for a place with great paella and we were told that this was the best in town. The atmosphere was dated but cozy. There was not a tourist to be found, all locals. We ordered the tortilla de patatas and the paella valenciana. The service was slow and sporadic. We were excited to have«authentic» Spanish food. The tortilla did not did not disappoint. It was fluffy and delicious. The paella was another story. The rice was mushy and the seafood was over cooked to the point of being inedible. We eventually stopped trying to cherry pick the mussels and turned it over to our indifferent server. The bathroom was broken and unusable. We also noticed a roach climbing its way over the display cooler. Not worth the time or stomach space. Go somewhere else if you are looking for paella.

The service was terrible. We walked in and not one of the three waiters or guys behind the bar said anything to us. We were starving otherwise we would have walked back out after waiting a couple minutes we just decided to seat ourselves. We waited a couple more minutes for someone to help us but no one did so I went to the bar and just took menus. Finally the waiter came over and we gave our orders. I got the Bistec Encebollado(pepper steak with mushroom sauce) and a side of plantains. My brother ordered the bass fillet with a side of plantains. They were lunch specials and less than 10 bucks. My steak was dry and hard to cut. Also half of the plantain was not fried all the way! My brother’s dish was far tastier. I really should have looked at reviews before stepping a foot in the door. It was nice not being surrounded by other tourists, everybody else was definitely local!

The food was good, nothing to go head other heels for, but I would go back if I was really hungry. Please note that pork is in the red beans. and in the yellow rice. So ask first! The steak was juicy and prepared well, the plantains were sweet and fried right. The fish was seasoned and cooked well. You can’t beat the daily special prices. If you find something you like on that menu order it because you can’t go wrong. The service was slow, there werent rmany patrons so it shouldn’t have taken long but I’m finding service is not the number one priority. If you’re hungry I’m old san juan and its late afternoon then this is your spot.

Horrible service, Roaches in both men and women’s bathroom, food was cold. We asked the waiter if we could have the food reheated, he got mad and did not care to at least apologize. We said thank you he said not one word even after ripping him 20%. I do not recommend this place it is dirty and nasty!

Service is slow, even for locals. Try the steak with mushroom sauce.

Service was non existent except for taking my order which i told the server over the bar counter while i seated myself. Only ordered a cuban sandwich and a coffee; Waters to drink while we waited. The server did bring that to the table, but nothing else. No one checked up on us or asked how things were. The sandwich at $ 6.50 wasn’t half bad. No pickle in the cuban!!! No biggie, that did not make or break it. The café expresso was really good($ 1.75). This place got 2 stars only because the food was good. They didn’t really even earn their $ 1.17 tip but i’m not that much of an a$$. Men’s bathroom had no paper towels. That’s a health code violation, isn’t it? Go with the intention of serving yourself and asking for anything you need; they certainly won’t ask you.

Stopped in for lunch. Cozy place with a Spanish feel. We were the only non locals in there. We had the chorizo and garlic shrimp for apps. They were both outstanding and good sized portions. The main courses were the garlic chicken, the fried pork and the churasco. Everything was perfect and the service was excellent. Would have tried more if we went for dinner.

Another local’s favorite. I had a midnight sandwich which didn’t have the cheese melted inside as I am accustomed to, but it was still warm and tasty. The service was fine. If you want more coffee, ask for more coffee and you’ll get more coffee. I HATEIT when waitresses mess up my coffee by «warming it up» after I’ve got it nice and creamed and sugared just the way I want it, so I’m glad they don’t do that here. It’s a nice atmosphere with a continuous«booth» sideways along the narrower portion in front where the counter/bar is, and 4-top tables in the back closer to the kitchen. All these buildings in old town are well older than 100 years old and most, if not all, are historic landmarks so the owners are limited in what they can do. They have wines displayed on shelves behind the counter and pastries behind a glass case near the front door. Some locals stopped in to take out pastries while we ate brunch. Siglo XX is fine.

We had to seek this place out after watching«Chuck Eat the Street» on the Food Network. They featured the preparation of their house paella and it looked so mouth watering. They did not disappoint. By far, the best meal we had in Puerto Rico. My kids, husband, and I did not leave a single grain of rice on our plate. The fish, squid, mussels, shrimp, and langostinos were all cooked to perfection. Quite the feat for a paella. My son keeps asking if we can have it as our last meal in Puerto Rico… wouldn’t want to disappoint!

Their paella for the street fair looked really good so we went inside. Ordered their seafood paella, steak, red snapper. Paella was some of the best I’ve had. Steak was tasty and tender, fish was good too! And their pitcher of sangria hit the spot. If you have an appetite, come here to get your satisfaction.

Steak was expensive and hard to eat. We both ordered steak medium rare and mine came out well done and it was super fatty. Our soups were ok. Nothing to rave about. This place looks better for breakfast, not dinner.

We were in need of a simple, easy breakfast, and we got it. Eggs, bacon, toast, fruit and awesome café con leche. So simple, but fit the bill for us perfectly.

Came here for dinner; it was pretty good, although not particularly memorable enough for me to come back. The restaurant was somewhat empty; service was decent, although pretty absent. Prices were reasonable. I wasn’t feeling super hungry, so I just ordered a cup of white bean soup and mallorca(sweet roll sandwich) with ham and cheese. Both were very tasty. My friends had the halibut and steak empanado(breaded steak), which were also good. Overall, the food was prepared well, but it wasn’t particularly memorable either. Nothing really stood out as being the best. I enjoyed my meal at Siglo XX well enough but I probably won’t come back anytime soon. It is a decent sit-down spot to check out if you’re in the area though.

My best friend and I had a serious hankering for some paella and no time to find anything off the beaten path so we opted to follow Unilocal’s rec and come to Siglo. The first sign of something amiss was the giant banner proclaiming that they had the best paella. But we were pressed on time and went in. It was during lunch and the place was incredibly empty — this was the second sign of impending disappointment. Then the garlic soup came. It was very tasty! We passed it back and forth around the table slurping it up, as my hope for«the best paella» surged back full force. Then the plate came. It didn’t even look beautiful. The seafood was far from brightly-colored or fresh and it was just rice with a bunch of tentacles of all sorts poking up. No worries. I like tentacles. So we dig in. The giant prawn was what had me salivating the most but one bite into it and I knew this was going to be a miss. Not sweet or succulent. Just bland with a slap of uncleaned vein. The clams and mussels were gritty. The overall flavor was muddy. The rice wasn’t even good — no spices and polluted by the bad seafood. I took four bites and called it quits, despite my raging appetite. Five hours later I was vomiting and even my friend, who has an iron stomach, complained of feeling a little off(he finished the meal like a champ, but I wish he hadn’t). This meal had me nearly swimming with the fishies.
