Hotel La Playa

The coco loco and margarita were delicious starters, the mahi mahi and skirt steak we’re delicious, and the chocolate cake was perfect. It is set on a large outdoor dining area right on the water. Will definitely be back.

The view is great. The staff is very friendly and accommodating, the food is good.

We ended up staying 10 nights in there ocean view and it has been great. The people at the hotel will break there back to make you happy. We stay at a lot of places and this has been the best experience for my wife and I. Would recommend this to ANYBODY

This review is LONG overdue, as I stayed here in 2011. But I’m glad to see that the reviews are still positive.
My criteria when searching for a hotel in Puerto Rico was something ON the beach, not dirty and cheap, and not a million dollars. Enter: Hotel La Playa.
This is a «boutique» hotel in Isla Verde area of the island. It’s a small hotel, I think they have about 12 rooms total. Beautiful, central location. Easy access to everything, including the beach (not overcrowded, I went in the off season — May); short walk to bus that will take you to Old San Juan and everywhere in between (it was $ 0.75 one-​way at the time); affordable cab ride to/​from the airport; and even near car rental locations if needed.
The room was beautiful, clean, well kept. The bar/​restaurant was delicious (I ordered the Mofongo!), service was fantastic. Very private/​quaint experience. Staff was excellent and friendly. Felt more like a local than a tourist in a resort (which was the vibe I was going for). Loved the neighborhood and local bars/​restaurants. I had a great time just walking around.
If you want the resort experience, you can just walk to one of the hotels next door. But I’m glad I avoided the massive resorts and stayed at this locally owned hotel.
I will stay here everytime I go to Puerto Rico. I did a lot of research before deciding to stay at Hotel La Playa, and it was the best experience I could have hoped for. I’m sure I’m forgetting other details (like free parking and the affordable cost), but if you’re considering Hotel La Playa… go for it!

Have the coco loco, it’s delicious. Food was absolutely fantastic. Beautiful view, sitting right on the ocean. Can’t go wrong here, probably eat here a couple of times.

After much hotel searching to find something in my budget, I ended up staying at Hotel La Playa, and I ended up picking a great spot. The hotel is in Isla Verde, close to the airport, but far enough away to feel like you are in the city. It sits right along the water and across the street (literally) is the start of a mile long beach which was very nice. The staff was very friendly, helpful, and gave you personal attention. If you rent a car, they have free parking which was awesome! If you are looking for all the fancy amenities, this is not the place for you, but they have all the basics to feel comfortable which was all I needed since I was always out doing day excursions and went out at night. There are also very upscale resorts near by to visit if you want to gamble and look around. I ended up moving to a sheeshy resort in Condado, closer to Old San Juan, and I actually missed staying at Hotel La Playa. Definitely recommended!

Stayed here for 2 nights. The staff was great. The location is beautiful, you’re right on the water. The room was clean. Continental breakfast includes coffee, juice, frosted flakes, bagels, toast, english muffins, and sometimes a pastry.
The shower pressure wasn’t the best when you used hot water.
Overall, it was a good stay. I’d go back.

I love la playa. Went here for drinks and food and it was amazing. A great singer was performing and it was the perfect spot to relax after a long day in the sun. I really liked the décor and the view of the water was breathtaking. The bartender was really helpful and always ready to refill a drink. I liked that la playa seemed to be a really fun place, but not boisterous or over the top. Super relaxing. Super clean. Great service.
Loved it, will go back on my next trip for sure.
