This restaurant is very closed by the train station, but a very long walk from downtown Sintra. We didn’t realize how far away it was, and I wish I could say that this place was worth it, but it was not. Not the food nor the service. The service is not welcoming at all. I saw on the first page of menu something that says daily special, which sounds way more exciting than their translated menu. But when I tried to clarify the dish(as google translate doesn’t always do the job well) I was told to order from regular translated menu instead. The pork cheek we had was hard and salty, and the grilled fish just average. The food is authentic alright, but among the many Portuguese restaurants we visited during our trip, this one is just a 3 star by comparison.

D. Pipas is tucked a little bit away from the main commercial stretch, but it’s not hard to find, and well worth the effort. I’m going to be honest. They had me at the sardine paté, which isn’t even something they make on site. But they picked out some great sardine paté wherever they got it. I wish I had some now. But okay, now the real stuff: the octopus and rice special still haunts my tastebuds. It’s one of my favorite pictures & taste memories from a great trip. Also, the grilled sardines were simple & delicious. This is one of those places that makes you think, «I could live here. I’d be at that table over there every Sunday afternoon, reading the paper and snacking on sardines with some vino branco.» Like so many spots in Sintra, the staff is warm, friendly and helpful.

Authentic Portuguese food. We ordered tuna, quail and mango mouse. Everything was delicious and fresh. The service was amazing, both waiters were friendly and attentive.
