Biotei can be found up a flight of narrow stairs. It is a really small restaurant with just 4 tables and a bar, if you are dining alone or in a small group you may be expected to share a table with others. The food here was light and delicious. I got a tofu lunch set– typically I don’t like fried tofu all that much but this was really delicious and light. The tofu was in a broth. It also came with Japanese potato salad, miso, veggies, and rice. I would definitely come here again for a light healthy meal. It’s also worth noting that while they have vegetarian meals, they also have meals with meat. My lunch companion got the Japanese curry with beef, and that was also a hit.

Very healthy and delicious food, and with a friendly owner and staff, this is one of my favourite restaurants anywhere. They have a wide varied menu, specializing in, but not limited to vegetarian cuisine. Healthy and delicious, not to miss it if you’re in Kyoto!

This was one of my favorite places that we ate at in Kyoto. The food was super yum. I had the vegetarian set(uses fish broth). Amazing flavors and everything felt so intentionally prepared. I felt so balanced all day after eating here. It seemed to be full of locals and older people. I’d eat here every day if I lived here!

This place was so delicious! It has delightful traditional vegetarian food. Get the set meal, I believe it changes daily. I also had their homemade Ume(sour plum alcohol) and my friend had the non-alcholic virgin ume-juice. It was wonderful.

Amazing value! The dinner set is full of fresh veggies and tastes great. The staff is super friendly and the atmosphere is cozy. Try one of the home made fruit infused sakes.
