excellent food, great wine, wonderful staff, reasonably priced and right on a quiet and non-touristy canal(how’s that for a run on sentence?!). this is the ONLY place worth eating in venice as far as i’m concerned.

This was my first stop in Venice. It was amazing from start to finish. The food was amazing as well as the wine selection. Trust, you will enjoy! It was so good I forgot to take a pic of the food!

We haven’t heard many great things about food in Venice. People seem to complain a lot about the overpriced mediocre food. That was not the case at Al-Artiste. This was probably our favorite meal and restaurant in all of Italy that we’ve tried. Maybe it was because we had such low expectations deviating from our original plan or maybe it was because it was our first meal after a long ride. — The crudo of langoustine, sea bass and seabream was simply amazing. Everything was so fresh. You know how you watch food shows and you hear them say how sweet the langoustine meat is raw? You’d probably wonder how the F can raw meat from a langoustine be sweet. Well it is. The meat was sweet and the brain and guys almost tasted like candy. — The prawns with linguine and zucchini was one of my favorite pastas. It was so flavorful. The mixed in zucchini was a great look and taste — The John Dory was this amazing fish dish with this incredible, incredible, incredible sauce. With olives, tomatoes, potatoes and this beautiful tomato based sauce. It was the first time I used the crappy bread to soak up the sauce. Definitely come here.

My favorite restaurant out of all the ones we ate at on my recent trip to Rome, Florence and Venice. A small restaurant with about 12 seats inside and five two seaters outside by the canal. Service is adequate. Food is bomb! We got three dishes to share: Seafood crudo was of sea bream, another type of fish and shrimp. This is a must get at € 16. So fresh, so good. Shrimp was sweet. Pasta with shrimp and zucchini was light and filling at the same time. Great flavor. Not overwhelming at all. John Dory with olives and tomatoes. This was another great dish. Bursts with flavor. Just look at the pictures I took of those three, you really must get them. Yum!

The best meal that I experienced in Venice. There are only a few outdoor tables available so we decided to show up for lunch the minute that the restaurant opened. My wife and I had the Venetian seafood antipasti, mushroom and artichoke taglietelle and John Dory. All three were five-star dishes in my opinion. The seafood platter made me a bit nervous initially as it had a whole baby octopus and squid eggs among other things but one bite of them immediately had me hooked. My favorite was the cod mousse though. It was so creamy and just the right amount of saltiness. I frequently see John Dory in cookbooks but had never tried it before so I was really curious about it. I couldn’t think of a better way to have John Dory for the first time. I also didn’t realize that the vegetables were white asparagus because I hate regular asparagus so I was surprised to find out later that the delicious vegetables was asparagus. The service is really good here. The gentleman that served us mainly spoke Italian but he was very nice and patient despite my limited Italian skills.

This place was fantastic! The owner is adorable and super friendly, as are all the servers. The place is tiny and cozy so you definitely need a reservation(same-day was fine for us). Everyone spoke English well. They recommended great wine with our meals, and the fish dishes were delicious — fresh, flavorful, not huge portions. Great stuff. We were a little bummed that we didn’t think to order some grappa after our meal, and then, out of the blue, two glasses of grappa showed up! I’m pretty sure they didn’t overhear us talking about it, but either way — either they were perfect mind-readers, or really generous. Definitely our favorite meal in our three days in Venice.

This was such a charming find in Dorsoduro. The food, wine, and service were all fantastic! I recommend anyone who wants to really experience Venice spend a late afternoon sampling their cheese plate and seafood pasta. We loved it so much that we bought two of their wine glasses. Unfortunately they were broken on our trip back to the states. If anyone knows how to reach them via email, I’d really appreciate a response. I’d love to replace these glasses as a token of our time in Venice.

Dinner canal side was very nice. We ordered the daily fish specials and were rewarded with lovely, nicely prepared angler fish and swordfish. The seafood misto platter was fantastic and included everything from small, sweet shrimp to cuttlefish roe. This was one of our better dinners in Venice. Reservations are a good idea.

Wow! This place had the best pasta seafood ever. We also tried the fish filet john dory with tomatoes and capers. That was very good as well. The sauce is light but the flavor from oil and fresh veggies and spices makes it so delicious. Yum! Next time I am here in Venice, i’ll definitely be making reservations here! By the way, they close at 10:30. You can make reservations either for 7 or 9 bc limited table space. Only 4 tables outside and a handful inside. The waiter spoke excellent English and was very friendly.

Top meal in Venice! We had the fried anchovies — not salty and not crusty. Very delicate and satisfying portion. Then we had pasta with tomato sauce. Simple but awesome. Finished with John Dory with tomatoes, capers, olives and grilled vegetables. So good I took a picture. As for atmosphere, noisy. There a 3 tables outside by the canal that might be quieter. Come for the food not the ambiance.

Simple dishes done right. My mouth waters when looking back at the pictures of butternut squash gnocchi and fresh buffalo mozzarella I had at this restaurant several years ago. It’s a small restaurant with a pleasant relaxed atmosphere. Hope to make it back to this restaurant on another trip back to Venice someday!

After more than a few misses in Venice with overpriced, under-performing meals, Ai Artisti nailed a great combination of inventive, updated Italian classics featuring seasonal products with top-notch, warm service and good value. We shared a varied cheese-and-meat plate, a salad(off menu, but great), and amazing house-made butternut squash gnocchi in a cream sauce. Many wines available by the glass or bottle, a small selection of Italian beer, and a wide selection of digestifs. It’s a great space to sit and watch the people traffic as you polish off a glass of wine.
