Without doubt, this was the best sandwich I ever had in my life! No other sandwich will ever be able to beat the one I got from this amazing little cheese shop turned sandwich bar in Ortigio Market. Though the queue was long, we were entertained by the ‘artist’ sandwich maker during our wait. You couldn’t imagine the amount of ingredients and the mass that he is able to pack in between two pieces of bread… but he does! I will highly recommend this place to anyone who comes anywhere close to Sicily! It’s worth the trip!

Best 5 euros I ever spent. A single sandwich is stuffed with delicious deli items and feeds two people. They make a different sandwich each day. I got a chance to try one from the father and one from the daughter. The father’s may have been a little tastier, but he has been at it much longer. I have no doubt she will one day be even better than the father.

The best sandwich I have ever eaten! It was about a 45 minute wait, but so worth it and very entertaining. The sandwich artist keeps up a steady conversation with hungry people waiting for lunch and he very generously hands out tasted of their amazing cheeses. First, the crusty bread, then a choice of spicy pepper caponata or mushrooms. Then a HUGE pile of greens, lettuces, mint, herbs tomatoes and a grating of hard cheese. Then a layer of absolutely fresh mozzarella and drizzles of olive oil. Oh yes. Fresh squeeze of lemon. Next you choose your meat. We went for mortadella thinly sliced and wrapped around fresh orange slices and a generous dollop of soft ricotta. We ate this with a bottle of Nero Di Avelo wine and ricotta dolce for dessert. Unbelievably delicious. Everyone working there, and waiting in line, we’re happy and welcoming. Fabulous.

The famed«Sandwich Man»! If you are going to be in Syracuse, save some room and get a sandwich from here. You simply walk up, ask for a sandwich and watch the magic happen. You don’t even have to tell then what you want, they put everything on it and trust me, you won’t want it any other way. The sandwiches they make are massive, with tons of different flavors and textures. It would not be a stretch to say it was one of(if not) the best sandwiches I’ve ever had in my life. You simply must go!

You can find it by the queue out front and the heaps of fresh cheeses in display. A dizzying array of options and super friendly service. Bring your appetite and a sense of adventure and try a sandwich unlike anything you’ve ever had. The sandwich starts with a «foot long» torpedo type fresh baked roll. Onto this is placed a pile of ingredients. The basic idea is that you pick your meat and two or three cheeses. This is rolled together and set on a bed of chopped lettuce, radicchio, basil, and tomatoes. Then it’s squirted with olive oil and topped with your choice of sun-dried cherry tomatoes, caponata, marinated mushrooms, olives, pickled vegetables, and maybe some other things I haven’t noticed. Meat choices appear to be prosciutto, speck, mortadella, ham, and salami. Cheeses include pecorino, fresh mozzarella, smoked mozzarella, ricotta, smoked ricotta, and ricotta salata(similar to feta). My fave was the mortadella and speck with pecorino and ricotta, topped with olive and marinated mushrooms. Delicious!!!

My friends and I ordered a plate for three persons and got some outstanding ham, cheese, mortadella and bread for just € 5 per person. Should be accompanied by a glass of nice wine or prosecco and the waiter is happy to help you choose.

Only thing better than a real Sicilian fresh fruit, veggie, and fish market? An incredible and unique Sicilian panino! This family-run business makes cheese, bread, and other delicious local specialities. Andre, the Panini Master, will make you a one-of-a-kind panini that you won’t find anywhere else. Yesterday’s panini: fresh-baked bread with some of the dough scooped out to make room for all of the toppings: fresh tomatoes, dried tomatoes, capers, 2 kinds of fresh cheeses, dried oregano, fresh basil, a little bit of prosciutto and salami on top. WOW, I almost forgot to mention the squeeze of fresh Sicilian lemon juice! This could be the BESTPANINO in Origia /Siracusa, Sicily! All of this for a total of only 4 Euro for a huge panini that my husband and I split… it’s no wonder we don’t want to leave! :)
