Mercato di Siracusa

Ein wunderschöner, überschaubarer Markt mit toller Ware: herrliche Früchte, Nüsse, frischen Fisch. Die Gerüche sind phantastisch und manches wird direkt am Markt vor den Augen zubereitet. Ein wahrlich tolles Erlebnis!

One of my favorite markets ever!
This one is in Siracusa Sicily’s Ortygia by the water on Wednesdays.
Fantastic fresh produce that’s In Season.
Fish straight off a boat and still moving.
Roman Ruins and ancient architecture as a backdrop.
Fresh spices, local products, scarves, purses and other vanities.
This time around I ate at the deli (prosciuttoria) Salumeria lining the market crowd and it was fantastic. They even gave us a generous sample of their most expensive prosciutto (like Kobe), gigantic sandwiches and cheap wine by the glass!
Next door is another deli where the owner has become famous on the internet, so tourists line up.
Some of the restaurants set up a little table by the crowd and cook octopus and other delicacies in front of your eyes and charge a small price to buy a serving.
