We picked this place for dinner while strolling the Spanish steps region of Rome. In fact, it’s just a couple of blocks from Spanish steps. We had an outstanding dinner, the food and wine were very good, and the price was very reasonable. Additionally, the waiter spoke good English, which is always very helpful. Our waiter both times was named Caesar, and he was very solid. In fact we enjoyed it so much, that we came back the next day for lunch. The waiters recommendations were very good. The only downside is that they do get a little bit busy sometimes, but in short it’s good food at a good price. I definitely recommend this place.

My in-laws have been coming to this restaurant for 20 plus years. They raved and raved about how fantastic it is. We all left a bit disappointed. The cold/veggie appetizer bar is really great(probably the best part). The pasta dishes we tried(4 in total) were okay. The lamb chop special my husband and I both got was not eatable. It was over cooked to death! The owner/manager(whoever it was) came by at the end of the meal to ask how everything was. He saw that we had a full plate of lamb left, yet he didn’t ask if something was wrong with the lamb. I guess it’s a bit of a touristy trap now. So many other great restaurants in Rome, I wouldn’t waste my time on this place.

Right in the heart of Rome’s high-fashion shopping district, not too far from the bottom of the Spanish Steps, is a fine Italian restaurant that serves food both indoors and al fresco. We saw that the food of other diners looked quite eye appealing, and the blackboard on an easel displaying the menu revealed a wide assortment of choices. So, sat down we did at Re Degli Amici Ristorante to enjoy our first meal in Rome. I began with some bread and butter, and Minestre in Brodo, which was composed of a tasty vegetable broth with numerous tiny but well formed 6-point pasta stars. Next, I opted for Boscaiola Pizze, which consisted of toppings of mushrooms, Mozzarella Cheese, and Pomodoro Sauce. I found that I liked the Pomodoro Sauce even better than the tomato sauce or paste commonly applied to pizza in the States. The pizza was very thin but tasty, with good fresh mushrooms and gooey cheese. And, its lightness enables a diner to follow this primi course with a more robust secondi course, which I soon did. Veal Saltimbocca Roman Style with thinly sliced veal, prosciutto, and well-oiled Roasted Rosemary Potatoes were fork tender and quite delectable. Diane and I then shared a creamy and excellent Chocolate Gelato to complete this relaxing repast amidst other shoppers who helped to create an international ambiance. The person seated on my left fluidly switched dialogue to speak with fellow diners in three different languages: Russian, English, and another tongue unknown to me. This was a very good start to our culinary samplings of Roman cuisine.
