The Friendliest restaurant that I have ever been in Rome. The food is excellent. Typical Roman and Neapolitan cooking. The service is great. House wine rocks the boat. The desserts: «The life is not certain eat the dessert first» quality. And the check was affordable. I felt like I was visiting my family member’s house. I think a restaurant should give one that cozy feeling.

This restaurant is a joke. Our server danced around the table trying to get us to order different dishes than what we asked for. When they came, everything was over salted. Their house red wine was chilled(wtf?), their other wines look like they came from a 7 eleven gas station, and I’m totally sure Olive Garden(a chain Italian restaurant in America) is better than this place. The two other tables next to us were Scottish and Argentinian and they were not fooled by the BS they were getting fed either. We all ended up laughing at how ridiculous the whole thing was because it was obvious the whole staff was scheming. Whatever. How does everyone else that has reviewed this restaurant think this is an authentic Italian restaurant? What do you people eat??? Don’t do it.

We came to this area based on some other Unilocal reviews and the other place was closed even though Unilocal said it was open. So sad. This place was 2 of 4 nearby and it called to me. Was craving red sauced pasta but also wanted to try carbonara… so we each tried one. I got the carbonara and it was delicious! ! Soup: egg and parmesean soup., was delicious. Spinach and broccoli. Mmm to die. Was so full from the apps i couldnt drink my wine or finish my entrée. The waiter was very nice, next time I would love to try a pizza here.

If you are looking for an authentic Roma dining experience, do not go here. Yes the food is decent but the service is very poor. As a former waitress from America, I can say that I have never experienced such poor service. The old man waiter basically rushed my husband and I out of the restaurant along with all the other tables in the place. We were done with dinner within 40 minutes. That is not an authentic Italian experience that we experienced in other Italian restaurants. Everyone around us got a full and better basket of bread while we got a couple of rolls. While I was still eating my salad, I was served my dinner course. I would never do that as a server myself. We weren’t event asked if we would like wine, water or dessert. I was given a container of Parmesan cheese for my dinner and the waiter took it away to give to another table before I was even done. Again, as a former server, I would never treat a table this way. If you want to go somewhere that treats their customers well, go either to Hostaria Romana or Piccolo Buco.

This is the only legit restaurant we ate at it in Rome. Clientele was 80% Italians and 20% lost tourists. Old school Italian interior, and the staff barely spoke English. 5 euro salad… simple, enough for two to share. 8.50 euro Salmon Pasta… not much salmon, but the sauce is incredible! 8.50 euro Gran Duca Pasta… FUCINGAMAZING! ATETHISTWICE! 7.50 euro Putanesca Pasta… good, but you’re better off ordering the above. 13 euro Bistecca… a thin steak with lemon wedges. Simple but satisfying as a shared secondi. 10 Eggplant… best on Planet Earth(overhyping?) 6 – 7 euro ½ Litre house wine… good enough! We ate here 3 times, and I would eat here again and again! Gioia Mia only restaurant I would return to in Rome.

Overall, not a bad place to dine. Close I many sights in the historic center of Rome, about two blocks east of the Trevi Fountain. The place looks like what it is, a trattoria, you will eat in a family-friendly atmosphere. Now on to the food, it is good italian food, and prices are about what they are elsewhere in the center of Rome. I had lamb the other day and it was good, but I recommend their pastas better, since that is what trattorias are mainly known for. Their millefoglie is an excellent dessert. Their staff is friendly and helpful.

As an Italian living in the States, I’m always on the hunt for real Roman restaurants when I visit Italy. This Trattoria is as real as it possibly gets. I loved their cicoria, and white matriciana. The fiorentina steak I had was perfectly cooked and tasted like anything I have ever had in Philadelphia. The house wine was better than expected(…we had a liter in two, perhaps too much). Their panna cotta was fabulous. All in all, this is what Roman cucina is all about. Simple and tasty. I recommend this place to whoever is in Rome and wants to get real food.

We were tourists in Rome and walked by this place. It is tucked away in a little street close to the Trevi fountain. The place was crowded but we were seated quickly. After we placed our order, the owner/manager puts a mushroom dish on the table that we didnt order. He said it was a special. It looked like a small appetizer which I thought was either complimentary or at the most 5 Euros. So I didn’t ask any questions and we ate it. When the bill came, there were a bunch of shockers. We were charged 10 Euros for the dish that we didn’t order. In hindsight we should have made clear what the price was before we ate it was but we also did not figure he was going to rip us off. Moving on. We were charged 2 Euros for tap water. The total bill also included a 10% service tax and a 3 Euro per person«Cover Charge.» So what should have been a 23 Euro bill turned out to be a 47 Euro bill. Of course this review will be too late for most of you as you will find this place like we found it — just walking by. But hopefully you can read this and get some solace that you weren’t the only ones cheated. Live and learn!
