Siehe Foto.

Absolutely AWFUL! If there was a ‘minus 5 star’ this is the rate it will get. Well, let me explain how it all began. Me and my boyfriend wanted to celebrate my birthday and after reading some reviews here on Unilocal we decided to give it a shot. I called and reserved a table but when we arrived to the restaurant they more or less forgot about the reservation. They let us stand in the middle of the restaurant for about 10 minutes looking like stupid and without even making any effort of letting us sit done a the empty tables that we could see existed close to the door. Finally we got a table but of course at the worst possible location: in the middle of the restaurant’s highway, where everybody was passing in a rush and pushing us all the time. After a while a big group left the restaurant and we decided to move to another table then. It took about 20 minutes for them to clean one table for us! Again we found ourself standing in the middle of a room looking like stupid while waiting for them. One of the waiters totally ignored us, even though I was speaking to her in Italian! Very very very rude! She even ignored her own ‘tables’. There were two guys who wanted to pay and she totally ignored them. They were about to leave without paying because she refuses to look at them! Finally one of them had to go to the pay desk/cashier to be able to pay. When we realized that they forgot about us again we moved to another table where they could see us better and where two other guys recently left because they also were ignored. Well, I now realized that after seeing 3 couples leave the restaurant because they didn’t get any attention we would also have done the same thing. We somehow wanted to give them a chance and decided to stay. Big mistake! Finally we got the chance order and thought that this could not get worse, oh boy so wrong we were! After waiting for over one hour for the pizza that I order and seeing that tables behind us got their food(including pizza) even though they got there recently, I was ready to stand up and leave but the pizza arrived. Again, I regret that I didn’t leave because the pizza was just awful! Cold and tasteless capricciosa… After a while the second course came in, a carpaccio which cost 18 €!!! The most expansive meal on the menu and it just look so sad… small plate, a small piece of carpaccio and some sad Parmesan… oh what a waste! At this point I decided to no longer stay here, I reached my limits, stood up and left. They not only destroyed the dinner but also my birthday.

My girlfriend and i went there yesterday because of the good recommendstions on Unilocal. We reserved a table at 20:30 in advance. When we arrived, the restaurant was super full and there was no table reserved for us at all. After asking the serveur we were ignored for other 10 minutes(standing in the middle of the restaurant). After asking 1000 times more we finally had a table, which we changed afterwards 3 times!!! After then we had to wait other 30 Minutes for the drinks and more than one hour for the food. The quality of the food(Pizza & Pasta) was not on a good level too. Could be, that we just picked the wrong day, but the service was catastrophic and the food average. The location by the way is super cute.

A perfect neighborhood family owned restaurant in the Trastevere area. The night I dined there, the couples were all in the garden patio and there was also several family groups in the main dining area. They welcome all guests with open arms and I was quite charmed by the young man who is helping serve along with his uncle’s family. He even offered me the wifi password. Everything is rustic, home style. There are many pastas and main courses to choose from. A little light on the appetizers, but I just got the house antipasto. House red wine is good, you order by quantity, half liter, quarto or 1 liter. I don’t think they have a wine list, it’s not that kind of place. The dessert cake and tarts choices were made by the young server’s mom. They probably have a hard time competing with the busier side of Trastevere near the Basilica di Santa Maria.

Charming and delicious. Grilled sea bass. Good gnocchi. Great grilled vegetable antipasta. Fresh bread and nice house wine. What more could one want? Chocolate cake of course and that was amazing as well. Lovely neighborhood, cheerful staff. Like visiting a friend’s aunt.. Welcoming even though you don’t really know her.

House wine: first rate. Antipasto: first rate. Pasta: perfect. Saltibuca: ahhhh. A dinner fit for royalty at a commoner’s price. Highly recommended.

This place has a great outdoor rear patio where we sat for hours and basically closed the place down. I even met the nona and thanked her for the wonderful meal. I wish I was there right now. The house white wine was a little too sweet so maybe go with the red.

My husband and I stayed in an apartment in Trastevere and walked by Il Buttero quite often. It was on my list after reading favorable reviews on both Unilocal and Trip Advisor. So glad we made a point of dining here. Lovely«mom & pop», rustic restaurant. Good, down-home food. Nothing pretentious. Unfortunately, I’m writing this review a month late so I cannot recall everything we ate but I do remember sharing a delicious seafood risotto with my husband. The arborio rice was cooked perfectly(not always an easy feat). The service was wonderful. The staff was very friendly. We had a table very near to the bread station. It was entertaining watching the server slice 3 loaves at once! I definitely recommend this restaurant. It is a great value, too!

Si vuelvo a Roma, vuelvo a Il Buttero.

So beautiful it almost made me weep! We dined at this charming little spot twice while we were in Rome, this was several years ago, but the memory is still fresh in my mind today. The first time we visited for lunch and had a litre of delicious house wine, Gnocchi with Gorgonzola Cream were little pillows of heaven in a thick rich cheese sauce and Bucatini Amatriciana, which my friend raved about. I have to say that it was the most beautiful pasta lunch I’ve ever had(and that’s not just the wine talking)! This is the sort of Mom and Pop place you search for in Rome, but amid the awful tourist traps and waiters standing outside telling you to come in and eat, this place is an oasis of authenticity. The second time, my friend and I had dinner there and it was even more delicious than our lunch. They had fried brains, which were yummy. All of their food is so wonderfully done in a lovingly crafted way that you just want to keep eating and eating. During the bustle of the dinner hours a guy showed up playing the accordion and they brought a bottle of Limoncello to our table, which we proceeded to gulp and not be charged for a drop. The value, quality, food and ambiance here are unparalleled. I dream about this place whenever I crave Italian food and am always saddened that I can’t be there to enjoy. If you visit Rome and aren’t lucky enough to have an Italian Mama cook for you, then please visit this place. Even if you do have an Italian Mama cook for you, go here, anyway, and enjoy everything this little place has to offer.

Looks touristy, but look past this. It’s great Fantastic pasta, made on site by the Nona working the kitchen… while the men sit around and talk — ahhh Italy(that’s sarcasm ladies, please no hate mail)! Seriously, my dad said it was the best Amatriciana he ever had. That’s saying something, seeing as he never met a plate, bowl soup pot of pasta he didn’t like. Great bread from across the street, I would guess. Nice antipasti buffet, but not if you’re not used to Roman food(fried food served cold). Bathrooms are nice and clean, per my wife. FYI — there is a shower in there… Great outdoor patio with the coolest retractable roof I have ever seen. I think the wait staff spoke English as well, but not sure of the quality.
