Stretching from Portobello bridge, south of Dublin’s city centre, Rathmines road is a street I walk every single day, to go to Aldi, the Rathmines Pharmacy, visit the Alan Hanna’s Bookshop, sit down for a cup in Moda or just to grab my newspaper in Spar. Rathmines signature landmark is the green dome of Church of the Mary Immaculate and the clock tower that can be spotted from miles away. It’s a road that makes Rathmines village a great place to live. It’s the heart of Rathmines village, a lively street filled with shops, restaurants and service companies. For eating out, check out the notorious Jo’s for a juicy burger, Kafka for finer dining, Manifesto for pizza and for Sunday brunch, head to Toast. For fast-food grub you have Eddie Rockets, Dominos, McDonalds, and plenty of Chinese and kebab places for sit in or take-away. For Shopping, Rathmines very own shopping mall, Swan Centre, has plenty of stores selling homeware, toys, books, clothes and accessories, and a newly opened cinema. The road is also home to a couple of charity chops: Oxfam, Barnardos, Irish cancer society and Vincent’s. Beer-thirsty folks can sit down at Mother Reilly’s, Slattery’s is good for football-pints and if you’re unlucky enough to be a smoker, head to Rody Bolands for the roomy smoking area. This only scrapes the surface. Rathmines road pretty much has everything you need. It’s a much-loved street among locals and visitors alike. Have a walk and discover your favourite places.
