At Clegg’s of Rathmines we maintain a family tradition of bespoke footwear alterations and repairs which is 5 generations old. Our speciality is the stuff others either can’t or won’t repair including bags and other leather goods. We offer a Bridal shoe covering service. Orthotic insert repairs. we carry a large range of shoe care products. We also copy keys.

Established in 1949.

my Grandfather opened this branch of Clegg’s in 1949. Previously his shop was on Golden Lane in the Liberties. At that time he and his brothers had shops all over Dublin.

Business Owner

My name is William Clegg. On leaving school I had learned my trade already by working weekends and school holidays in my fathers shop in Dalkey. I attended business college for 2 years in DIT mountjoy square. When I started working here in Rathmines, my aunts had been running the shop for the 5 or so years since the death of my Grandfather, also William but better know as Bill. In 1999 the lease was renewed in my name and I took over the business and ive been working here ever since. Sadly I didn’t get to learn the Art of shoe making from my grandfather so of late I have been working to retrieve these skills from various sources and teachers. In April 2011 I finished my first pair of hand made shoes.
