I’m writing this review for the Poulet Bonne Femme in Monkstown where I buy there delicious sandwiches which is way overdue. Where Gavin and Sara started there first fixed shop in the Avoca Food halls. When they first moved into and Avoca store all they were rotisserie were Chickens, but as time has progressed PBF have experiment with other meats, first came pork with the crackle which brought me back to my childhood and remembering the Sunday Roast and later came Roast beef, Lamb and Ham. Over the years I have had many of their sandwiches as individual meats or as combos, the Chambo was the first. But earlier this year in their the Kilmacanoge store the Manwich was born, all the meats in one sandwich, I have yet to try it, but can you handle a Manwich?

Friend and I had their sandwich today. I had the beef sandwich, which was decent, and my friend had the duck, which I felt was a better choice. Both of them was definitely above average sandwiches, but I would not say the best in Dublin(as advertised). I wish they could heat their sandwiches up instead! Pricing was definitely decent and therefore is a plus star for me. Do note of their very small and confined area. So it is always a good idea to have it take away. Crazy busy during lunch time, but it is also because there are only 2 workers and they work rather slowly. But will definitely be back here again to try more of their food!

Disappointing & poor value for money. I went for a chicken sandwich on sourdough bread and I was shocked at how little chicken was put in the sandwich. I could see the server was really stretching it very thin. All I got was salad leaves, mayo and chicken. I’ve never seen such a cynical attempt to minimise the amount of meat in a sandwich for 7 euros. won’t be eating there again!!!

In France Poulet Bonne Femme is a certain way of roasting a chicken with lard, onions, mushrooms, olives and thyme in a pot. Here it was simply a delicious chicken from the rotisserie. The French touch is more or less clever marketing as the owner Gavin confessed. What I care more about is that«all of the chickens sold are Irish, free-range or organic and all of the ingredients used in the secret marinade are of the highest quality» as they claim. Good people, good chicken!

I went again last week near 2pm(I can’t help it– I work across the river and teach until 1!) and got the last chicken there, but they were out of potatoes again. This chicken was gorgeous, juicy, flavourful and succulent. Also I see they’re selling whole chickens now in case you want one for the whole family. Still four stars because I still haven’t tasted the potatoes!
