A lovely new addition to Dublin’s North inner city(where pickings tend to be slim) Cobalt Café and Gallery is housed in one of North Great Georges Street’s beautiful Georgian-era buildings across from the James Joyce Centre, and definitely projects the appropriate ‘old-world’ vibe. I’ve no doubt the famous scribe himself would have felt right at home here. The interior has an authentic ramshackle feel with a dusty old piano, birdcage and various other bric-à-brac. A red rope prevents punters from exploring upstairs sadly. The café serves up a variety of no-nonsense fair, with homemade soups, tasty sandwiches and cakes all on offer at reasonable prices. I always admire somewhere brave enough to serve imaginative soup flavours outside of the crowd-pleasing chicken and vegetable bracket. A steaming bowl of Garlic soup was the ideal antidote to the damp afternoon outside on my visit. Cobalt also boats a lovely leafy-green garden area, the perfect urban escape if the weather is forgiving.

I like this place! Unfortunately I went on a rainy day so I didn’t get to experience the sunny courtyard, but the food was good and reasonably priced. I enjoyed their Caesar salad. The interior is just gorgeous, as a lot if Georgian houses are. Definitely looking forward to going back again when the weather is nicer.

Came upon this little gem of a place after a bus back from the airport stopped far too early and we took a wrong turning. One of the hottest days of the year and we were dragging around a suitcase and in desperated need of a coffee having been awake since 6am.(Surely flights shouldn’t go that early?) So in we went. It was a light, high-ceilinged room painted a refreshing Frenchish shade of light blue. Large plants in the corners, a piano, some interesting paintings and little flowers gave the place a vibe which was both elegant and relaxing. We only ordered coffee, however there was a range of yum-looking food available too, as well as an outside garden to enjoy it in. The price was reasonable, the service friendly and we were by no means rushed out afterwards. Will happily return.

This place is awesome. I do some work around the corner and love coming here for lunch and coffee. Charming, unpretentious, good value, outstanding food. Do yourself and them a favour and check it out. They are currently hosting a Tennessee Williams centenary celebration.

After a stroll in the dark through Dodgyville, Dublin 1, I didn’t expect the pure fabulousness of the Cobalt Café. A friend was having a milestone birthday party and had booked it for a private function. It’s a really beautiful space in a beautiful Georgian street, and they really went for something special with the mix of modern and antique décor. They don’t have a full bar, but do serve wine and beer, and the whole thing just has an elegant vibe. Just the perfect place to be funky and fabulous — which was the theme of the evening as it happens!

My favourite spot in Dublin! Great pies, wonderful homemade soups, a fantastic little garden out back to enjoy the sun(when there is some!) and the loveliest hosts you could meet. I have never had a chance to check out one of their cabaret shows but I hear they’re absolutely fabulous. I look forward to the next time I am in Ireland; I am going to de my best to line it up so I can see one of their acts.

North Great Georges Street has a significant lack of noteworthy foodie establishments worth any mentionat all, except for the little gem that is the Cobalt Café and Gallery. The food menu is short but the quality is high, and the suroundings are bright and elegant. The café doubles up as a performance space for small plays and concerts.

This café is very elegant and classy and lovely. It is built on the site of an old Victorian performance space and therefore it sometimes offers small plays and cabaret acts. It also doubles as an art gallery too. If not catching some sort of performance here it is still a fab place to grab a good coffee and slice of cake and sit back and relax and indulge in the wonderful surroundings!

Although the menu is very simple, the food is superb and served well. The atmosphere too makes up for lack of diversity in the menu as it is bright and airy and compliments the simple elegance of that being served. Great in winter or in summer, a lovely place to stop for a while.
