The Candy Café is part coffee shop, part breakfast restaurant for the Castle Hotel, which it lies in conjunction with. As a coffee shop, it’s alright, but mostly suited for getting your coffee to go, as the ambiance is somewhat marred by the breakfast restaurant element; either it is a very large, very busy room(between 7am and 10am when breakfast is being served), which kind of ruins the coffee shop feel, or it is a very large, quite empty room(at all other times), which also kind of ruins it. As a breakfast restaurant, it works well. Choices are a bit limited to a cold buffet, consisting of 6 cereal choice, milk, and yoghurt, and a hot buffet, consisting of a choice of eggs(boiled, fried, scrambled), beans, bacon, sausages, black pudding, mushrooms, tomatoes, hashbrowns, and bread. Quite nice the first couple of days, but after that I’d start to miss something fresh, like a bit of fresh fruit or something else non-greasy. If you ask for them, they also have a small selection of mini croissants and pain-au-raisins, which are quite good.

Great little café for standard omnivores. Club sandwich is great for lunch, Irish breakfast is great for. well, breakfast. Great atmosphere and free wifi. I have become a regular.

I got separated from my tour group and was ready to grab some lunch. I stopped into the Candy Café because it was near our hotel and I was extremely pleased with both the quality and portion size of my potato leek soup, accompanying bread, and the salad I ordered. All for 7 euros! I would definitely eat here again.

I popped in to grab a sandwich on the run, and for some reason ordered ham cheese and tomato. I never get ham in a sandwich as inevitably it’s a rubbery, sweaty, phosphate-infested disappointment but the gods must have whispered sweet hammy nothings in my ear as I walked into this place. The sandwich I got was really good, nice fresh slices of bread, proper thick unprocessed ham, and decent cheese and tomato. Service was fast and pleasant. I’ll be stopping by again to check out the sit down menu.

The food is cooked perfectly. A lovely place to go when you fancy something nice and fresh.

Dropped in here for a takeaway mocha, which was alright. Not the best mocha I’ve sampled in Dublin but certainly not the worst. I didn’t try the food, but it was reasonably priced, and everyone who was seated inside had a smile on their face so I presume it’s good. Will go back to give it another try soon!

I love this place! I found it one morning when I was craving a warm breakfast and was too lazy to cook my own. I live just around the corner, and pass it at least twice a day, but never went in before that. I dont eat bacon/sausages/pudding or anything from a pig(yeah i know, lame) so i asked for a veggie fry. They didnt have one on the menu, but one of the waitresses said she would do one anyway, i think i paid about five euro for it, and it was SO tasty! I got beans, scrambled eggs, two fried tomatoes, toast and coffee. It was exactly what i wanted. The staff were super quick, without rushing you, and there was a great atmosphere in the place. I am so glad i found it, just off O’Connell St and just around from my house, its an ideal place for a sunday fry!

This corner café is a cozy little find. Dining in for a sandwich and soup on a rainy day is just the better. The Sambo with a choice of specialty sandwich comes with the soup of the day for € 6.50 Decent price for the both. I enjoyed the vegetable soup of the day and was glad to find that it wasn’t a broth-based soup which complimented my Chicken and Bacon Bap. It had an interesting red relish I’ve never had before, almost tasted like a sweet marinara spread. The toasted flat bread was perfect. Very friendly/helpful waitstaff.

I went in here only wanting a coffee but then I smelled the soup and decided to stay for a quick bite. And I have to agree with Steinunn, the service is incredibly fast. Soup comes with brown bread, which is yummy but the soup was a bit watery. The coffee nearly managed to save my lunch though, because it was better than I’d expected. I think next time I find myself in this part of town I’ll try one of their sandwiches instead. All in all though, the Candy Café is nice for lunch, not too packed but buzzing, and the soup and coffee were just over a fiver.

It was a pleasant surprise when I stumbled upon this cosy neighbourhood café after a morning of running errands on the North Side and seriously craving a juicy sandwich and a cup of coffee. The house special sandwiches go for 4.90(4.25 for take-away), which is quite reasonable since they are far from being cheap on the toppings. They also serve soup, home-made porrige and muffins for those with a sweater tooth. I arrived just before the lunch-time rush(but this is clearly a popular place among workers in the area) and managed to grab the last free table. In less than two minutes my cajun chicken wrap arrived, nicely covered in sauce and veggies, served with crisps on the side. I have to give them a special praise for an incredibly fast service. The lady behind the counter must have set some kind of a sandwich-making record as no matter how many new customers arrived for take-away, there was never a queue! So when you find yourself in the area and need to grab a quick meal, make sure to drop in. But bring cash as they don’t accept credit cards.
