Who took all the fun out of shoes? Camper did! I do like comfy shoes because I walk a lot on a daily basis, so I keep going into Camper to see if they might finally have a pair of shoes I would consider wearing… but so far they haven’t. Maybe it’s the minimalist presentation of the shoes on wooden boxes, but the store doesn’t invite you to have a look around really. Added to that, the shoes are pretty pricey even if they last a very long time. In fairness though, the shop assistants are lovely. It’s not their fault that I don’t like the shoes.

Two words to describe Camper: comfy and classic. A relative newcomer to the growing number of shoe outlets along this street, Camper has established a devout fan base for their quirky and innovative yet practical styles. The shoes are mostly leather, top-quality, and very colourful. You won’t find any sparkles or stilettos here, just funky, pretty, cool and comfortable runners, plimsolls and boots for men, women and children.

I don’t know how Camper figured it out, but they found a way to make shoes that are at the same time practical and whimsical, light and durable, youthful and classic. While they are not cheap, they are so worth the money. Any Campers will last you a lifetime and garner you a million compliments. They really are extraordinary shoes. The styles range from flats, to boots, to casual heels to sneakers and come in various colors and patterns. Most are made of leather, and feature a soft, rounded toe. Some pairs feature a different image on each shoe, creating a story in footwear. A mouse face might appear on one, with a mouse on the other. Pretty adorable, huh? Other styles might be understated and basic, but they too have a bit of fun tucked inside. One thing really unites them all, and that is a dedication to detail and fun. The company’s motto is «Reinvent your reality» after all. God, it’s just so good! The store itself is as unique as the products it sells and the sale staff cannot be beat. They’re so chipper and helpful, but not pushy. God, it’s just so good! *Swoon*

If you’re the kind of person who wouldn’t be caught dead wearing the same shoes as everyone else then you should go to Camper on Wicklow Street. Camper is a Spanish label that was originally offered at Schuch. Since 2006, the company moved its merchandise to a new shop that sells exclusively this make of shoe. The shoes are original and come in a variety of women and men styles. Mostly made with leather, there are cute Mary Janes, flats and runners. Camper doesn’t play it safe and make a boring shoe. Instead, their look is playful and comfortable. Expect to pay a tad more for their creative style.
