Specialties

When it comes to authentic Mexican food, chef and owner Hugo is a Dublin institution: Tamales, Chilaquiles, Enchiladas, Taquitos, Tacos, Sopes, Pozole, all made from fresh ingredients, using authentic Mexican recipes. Hugo is passionate about Mexican cuisine, and aims to share his knowledge and experience of Mexican food and culture in a unique, welcoming and fun atmosphere

Enjoy a Mexican Breakfast, Brunch, Lunch or Dinner, or celebrate your next special occasion with a difference — book a table or Mexican cooking class for your Hens or Stag party, Birthdays or Anniversary (if you ask nicely, Hugo himself might even provide some spontaneous musical entertainment!)

Once you’ve learned all your Mexican cooking tricks and techniques, we also stock authentic Mexican products to help you cook up a storm at home: La Costena brand chipotles, jalapenos, Salsa Verde, Masa Mix and Tortillas, Chaparritas and Jarritos fruit juices, and Modelo and Negra Modelo beer. Bring the taste of Mexico home!

For the competitive among you, why not try the Café Azteca Burrito Challenge: can you finish our delicious 12-inch Burrito?

We also offer deliveries and outside catering (sandwiches, burrito platters etc) for businesses and events.

… and if all that wasn’t enough, the Café Azteca book will be out in March 2015! Exciting times!

History

Established in 1999.

Hugo met his wife while studying in Paris and working in the Disney Resort Hotels. On returning to Ireland we managed various cafes, before opening our own.

Azteca began as a sandwich bar, catering for traditional Irish tastes. G-R-A-D-U-A-L-L-Y we began introducing new tastes onto the Dublin restaurant scene: chipotle, jalapeño-based dishes and corn soup. (Oh, and not forgetting the complimentary shots of tequila on sept 15th!) The idea took off and evolved to create the Azteca menu which we know and love today.

We offer a genuinely unique, authentically Mexican experience.

We love what we do, and hope you do to!

Business Owner

I am from Mexico City, and was always drawn to catering because of my love for food.

I have worked with many great chefs in Mexico, France, and the UK… but I still think Lola, my abuela, was the master chef. A talented chef, and well-known for the high quality of her food, the authenticity of her recipes and her passion for satisfying the diner was indescribable and inspirational. I was lucky to be able to learn from her: not just her recipes, but her passion and love of food. I endeavour to pass on this knowledge both through the food that I serve and through the classes that I give.

I love introducing people to the taste of Mexico. Mexican food has been referred to ‘the healthiest cuisine in the world’, due to the amount of tomatoes, lemon/lime, corn, chilies, onion, coriander, corn-fed organic chicken etc. that is eaten on a daily basis, and I love when people eat it and love it!

The only thing left to say… ENJOY!
