Staying in the area, this was the closest food option. Glad we came on a Sunday as they offer lunches until 4pm. We had the 2 course meal for 21 €(also a 3 course option for 25 €) We both had the 9 hour roasted beef. It was fall off the bone delicious! Served with potatoes, carrots, and au jus. My bf started with the soup of the day and I ended with the dessert. We sat on the patio as it was a lovely day. There are 3 patios to chose from. We had the upper back, very relaxing place with views of trees, greens, and the river. Large venue, lots of space to accommodate groups. Would return

I live around the corner from this place and each day I pass it I always promise myself that I’ll go in… I finally went in and I was pleasantly surprised! After a strenuous day out playing golf myself and my friends went looking for a place with a) seats outdoors in the sun b) good food and c) quiet. Ashton’s delivered on all three! I went for the Ballymahloe Blaa(any non Irish natives just trust me on this one) it was awesome! My friends went for the Club Sambo and the Fish and Chips and they both ranted about the high quality of the pub grub! The thing that I enjoyed the most from our day out at Ashton’s was their beer garden… Hidden down the back it looks out onto it’s own secluded stretch of the Dodder river. So peaceful and tranquil I could have spent the entire day there. Great little spot for watching sports or just basking in the rare moments of summer in Dublin!!! I’ll be back!

I will not be back for a long time. An awful experience, with the bar staff to blame.

With the closing of Smurfitt’s nearby factory, I am sure that Ashton’s must have suffered, but their attitude to their customers has improved even further, if that is possible. I would go there perhaps once or twice a month for lunch. The food is always excellent and the level of service is very high. In fact there are two ladies whose sole purpose seems to be to find you a table and carry your tray should you need it. Despite the food being slightly pricey I think it is a very pleasant place for a nice relaxing lunch.

There is something about Ashtons that just puts me off the place. I’d usually love every pub that has a sign outside saying ‘Sing until you’re BLUE in the face’(blue being the colour of the Leinster jersey for those who don’t know) but Ashtons somehow lacks the atmosphere to pull it off. Maybe it’s because I feel underdressed and quite poor every time I come here, but having said that it’s a nice enough pub for a pint when you’re in the area. Just make sure that your jeans don’t have any holes and your shoes are all shiny or you might stick out a bit.

Pretty much made for a Friday evening — that first pint after work and oh the view of the river. On any given eve you can sit in, near the back of the bar and look out on the river Dodder, it is spectacular, summer or winter… though in Summer you are more likely to be sitting out on the terrace… its just made for a sunny day! Inside the bar is bright and spacious, well laid out and well, lovely, really, thoroughly enjoyable. The Bistro part is just as good, not exactly a fine dining experience but very good none the less. The food ranges from chicken liver pâté to fresh Dublin bay prawns and escalope of veal, no dish breaks the 16 Euro barrier, so dining is good value and enjoyable. Overall, recommended.
