Omakase here we go!!!(It’s like a surprise goodie bag — but of yummy tastings). This seemed to be the best option for trying a variety of sushi, especially if you are wanting a variety bite of everything. The place settings and dishes were cute in itself: from the embroidered linen napkin to the detailed cut and designed dish to the pointed chop sticks resting on a smooth rounded stone. Each edible piece was presented beautifully with artistic color and placement on each dish. Appetizers: I’m not even sure what everything was exactly, but the first one had a cute reminder of an Autumn leaf stolen from an East Coast tree, which seemed to be nestled underneath a roasted sweet yam-like thing. The green leaf covered a small piece of salted fish. And then a bite size of green beans and kidney beans were gone just like that.(totally guessing at these… sorry I wish I knew what they were exactly). Sashimi: 3 white fish came out first. The next 3 were tuna, chotoro, and otoro(the best and fattiest melt-in-your-mouth). The final 4 included fish eggs and uni — amazing! Next was the seaweed bowl for the cleanse. A cute wooden dish caught my attention — which had a super fluffy whipped meringue-like egg whites over a white fish. This had a very light and airy texture complimentary to a delicate moist white fish. After came a bowl of shrimp baked rice covered with ikura and miso soup. Lastly — a scoop of chestnut ice cream completed this fulfilling meal. It may seem like each dish is quite small, but collectively I got really full. The meal itself was a bit pricey. I believe it came out to about $ 100 per person. But all in all, I loved the experience here with good friends and good eats.

a very satisfying meal in terms of food quality. we ordered 2 omakase set n 2 more dishes to share among the 3 of us. the appetiser consists of shimps, egg n preserved fish. then we had the 10 assorted sushi, of which I like the toro n sea urchin most. we were presented 3 types of toro. one fattier than the other, n I personally favour the oilest one for obvious reasons lol. then we were served the mini rice, I’m happily surprised by the use of sakura shrimps, goes extremely well with the abundant salmon roe. instead of the typical white pearl rice used in most Jap places, they use a yellowish kinda rice n normally I would reach out n ask but sorry the staff here are u touchable. more like they will shout at u if u ask questions lol so yea I’d like to warn whoever is tempting to go bc u hv heard good things about their food. they do good quality sushi n sashimi yes but if ur not ready to be told off for asking a cup of hot tea then don’t bother with this place. I hv never ever in my life experienced such bad service. n I hv high tolerance with these sorta things, really. the meal was 700hkd per person n the service was so bad that I had to make a paragraph out of it lol

Worst. Japanese. Experience. Ever. First of all, I want to say the Sushi Mori in Caroline Hill Road location was absolutely fantastic. Thinking I would like to go there again, I made a booking on Tuesday, Nov. 11, 2014. Got the confirmation and was looking forward to another great omakase meal. Upon arriving at the Caroline Hill location, I was informed that there was no reservation under my name despite the fact that when I made the booking, I spoke to someone at the restaurant that confirmed my booking. Already slightly annoyed, the hostess offered to send us to the older location on Tang Lung Street. Ok… fine… Thinking that since it’s the same group and restaurant, how bad can it be? Well… let me count the ways — 1. The service was practically non-existent despite there only being 2 other seatings at the sushi counter/bar. 2. We decided to go with the chef’s pairing/omakase and see what kind of food we would get… wrong! Not only was the craft of the chef completely lacking, the quality of fish and choice of sashimi and sushi was just horrendous. I could have gotten a better meal had I went to CitySuper and bought pre-made sashimi and sushi! WTF… 3. We were so put-off by the poor quality, even more horrendous skills of the chef, and the piss-poor selection we decided to end our meal. 4. Here’s the best part — 4 selections of sashimi, 3 selections of sushi, 1 bowl of fish soup, and 1 bottle of sake — total price for 2 persons… HKD3,560!!! And we’re not talking about high-end toro, geoduck, uni, or exotic fish… this was some scallop, hamachi, poorly prepared and cut-up mackerel, and botan shrimp. W. T. F. 5. After complaining to the chef himself, whereby he actually STARTEDTOADMIT maybe the prices were a little too high, the waitress(she said her name was Noven) shoved the bill in my face and asked for my credit card. We asked for the manager and was told the manager rarely comes in and is not around… awesome, by the way, great way to run a restaurant. Needless to say, I would never set foot inside this location again. Ever. I hate that after this experience, it would make me think twice before revisiting the Caroline Hill location as the service, quality, and craftsmanship was literally 180 degrees. I sincerely hope the management of the Tang Lung Street location do something about their staff’s attitude and training. I would never recommend Sushi Mori Tang Lung Street to anyone I know unless I want them to experience the worst Japanese food in all of Hong Kong.
