My dad recommended 華姐清湯腩 to me. We were staying around the area so it was very convenient for us to visit here. Service was excellent! I was taking a picture of the beef noodles that we’ve ordered and the boss came over to re-position the noodle soup for me for better photo ops haha BEEFBRISKET with egg noodle, clear soup(4⁄5) It was so yummy! The boss recommended the rice noodle but I prefer egg noodle over that. We came here twice during our stay in Hong Kong because it was so good: P * Next time I’d like to try the veggie rice with beef brisket, a grammie at our table ordered it and it smelt and looked sooo gooddd: D

This place has a long tradition in Hong Kong. It’s main rival is just next door serving almost the same food. This is a typical Hong Kong fast food stall. It’s simple, tables are cramped, it’s small and it’s noisy. Be prepared to share a table with people as they don’t waste even one seat. But the food is good! Here it’s all about beef brisket in all kinds of variations. Try it with clear broth or with noodles or even try the curry beef brisket. They are all very good. It is one of the best in Hong Kong and the value for money is great.

Great beef noodle soup at fair prices. Worth trying. Worth repeating. FOOD Brisket with rice noodles — clear broth. Good noodles. Decent quality beef. Tasty. Get this Brisket with Dan Dan noodles — this brownish sauce is peanut based I think. I’m not a big peanut fan so I skipped this. It’s popular though! AMBIENCE Pretty much your basic little HK restaurant. Very small and classic looking with about 7 small tables which means it seats about 40… Uncomfortably. SERVICE Simple service. You walk in(possibly after waiting in line) and sit down at a table(usually shared with someone unless your party is large enough to fill the whole table). Someone will take your order and you will get your food within a few minutes. After you’re done, just get up and pay on your way out. LOCATION Tin Hau MTR exit A2. It’s close enough to see from the MTR exit.

Small restaurant on electric road. It’s hard to find seats but the wait is definitely worth it. I ordered the original dish and it was still full of flavor. The beef is nice and tender and melts in your mouth. 10⁄10 would recommend. It’s located right across the street for the tin hau metro.

In my opinion this place is a must try if you ever find yourself in Hong Kong. As most popular HK eateries go, this place is a no frills, busy, shared table kind of place. But no worries, as the food here speaks for itself and can be had at a very economical price. I recommend going with a friend and sharing the brisket with rice noodles and the brisket with dan dan noodles. Or just be fatty and order both for yourself. One protip I have is that if you like the fattier and more tender pieces of brisket just ask the server when he takes your order! They are happy to oblige. However, if you have high cholesterol or at high risk of heart disease then please disregard this tip. The noodles in both dishes were cooked perfectly and oh so fresh. If you typically like lighter broths go with the brisket with rice noodles as the broth is a clear and lighter, although still very flavorful. If you enjoy thicker broths as well as savory peanut flavors then definitely go with the brisket with dan dan noodles. Either way you can’t go wrong, and as Jiro dreams of sushi, I dream of these brisket noodle soups. Slurp on my friends!

Came here with a party of 6 and waited in line for about 15 – 20 minutes, a testament to Sister Wah’s popularity! They freed a big table for us so that we could all sit together. All of us ordered the dan dan noodles with beef brisket — 牛腩擔擔麵. Let me tell you, it’s a life changer. The peanut-y soup with tender beef brisket and bouncy noodles, accompanied by a fresh cup of cold soy milk could not have been more perfect. I will be back.

Looking for an authentic HK experience? Look no further. Complete with small round tables and stools for you to share with your neighbors, it’s a few minutes walk from the MTR station. I’d highly recommend the beef brisket noodles and curry! The best part of it all is the fatty beef brisket meat that has been stewed to perfection… I can eat this all day! Note: they also have an English menu :)

Tried it out based on a recommendation and other reviews. We had to wait in line for around 15 mins before getting a shared table for the 3 of us. The service was… well… standard asian restaurant service… so don’t expect it or get too offended(ie: while our plate of drunken chicken was served, before the plate touched the table, the waiter said«don’t throw the bones on the table! » … umm… ok then.) Anyway the beef brisket rice noodle was solid. Nice clear broth with a good amount of meat and noodle. I found the brisket to be very tender… no need to chew till your jaw aches and brain hurts. First world problems :) Drunken chicken, boiled radish, marinated beef slices were all good… nothing to call home about because Vancouver is such a haven for good HK style food. The fried pork(with rice) was very salty… perhaps it was just over seasoned that day… The chili wontons were actually my favorite part of the whole meal. The wontons were nice neat little bite sized mouthfuls soaked in a chili oil/soy/pickled radish/green onion sauce. Yum. The bill came to approximately CDN $ 50 for 3 people. not expensive… but perhaps a bit more than expected for that place. Overall: 1. Don’t expect service 2. Decent food, nothing special 3. English menu available

I was steered here by Ju L.‘s review( ) and hers covers all the useful things. I don’t have much to add except to confirm the beef brisket dan dan noodles here is perfect. It wasn’t just the best brisket-noodle soup I had in a week-long stay in Hong Kong, it was the best dish, period.

I find it interesting that I had my most expensive meal of Chinese soup noodles in Hong Kong at random street store. Had: Beef brisket noodle soup — At $ 40HKD, this bowl of soup was quite small. The noodles were less cooked than al dente, giving them a very chewy texture. The broth was a tad salty for me, but perhaps that is due to my recently heightened awareness of my sodium intake. The brisket though, I have to say, was the best I’ve had. EVER. It was incredibly tender and flavorful, and it was cut into proper, bite-sized pieces. There was a small amount of fat, but it was the right amount of fat for that amount of meat. If it did not have some fat on it, I would have been concerned. Boiled veggies($ 18HKD) — Opted for it doused in the braised beef brisket sauce, and not in the oyster sauce. Veggies were a lovely green color, but super stringy. Drunken chicken($ 55HKD + $ 5HKD for upgrade to chicken leg) — This was an odd upgrade. I’m used to living in a culture where I would have to pay to upgrade to a chicken breast. I have found my people. I have never understood the appeal of chicken breast. I find it dry. That being said, I do not like having to pay to upgrade for what I like. The taste of that drunken chicken though, was glorious. Not cheap for the amount, but delicious. It’s served chilled, and chopped into pieces, bones still in. The chicken itself was very fresh. Super moist chicken. The drunk part was the kicker. Normally, one can taste the alcohol, but not to this extent. This drunken chicken still had a slight bitterness from the alcohol. That being said, the sauce did not overwhelm the chicken, and the chicken did not overwhelm the alcohol. Pork dumplings in chili oil($ 50HKD) — We had it sans chili oil. A lot of us aren’t feeling well, and the extra oil + spiciness would have aggravated our conditions. These were pretty much pork wontons in a sweetened soy sauce covered in a generous helping of green onions and small bits of preserved veggies. The wontons were lovely. The wrappers were super-thin, the way I like them. All in all, good tasting, but the price point to the portion was severely lacking. Wontons aren’t that expensive… Bonaqua water bottles($ 6HKD) — so I usually would not write anything about water bottles, but this was a pivotal part of this restaurant experience. We asked for two bottles. We received two bottles. We were charged $ 120HKD for these two bottles. Only upon our double-checking of our bill, which we thought was a tad excessive($ 400HKD plus change for 5 people for soup noodles?) did we discover the mistake. Thankfully, the staff very readily changed it for us. The server who had made the mistake had already ended her shift, so I don’t know whether the mistake was intentional or not. Cleanliness — fairly clean, but we had to remind them to wipe the table. Sharing tables! — Be prepared to share a table with a stranger if you come alone. They have no problems doing that. Service — I have to say that the service was pretty good, with us and with the other tables. They are on super-friendly terms with their regulars, which they seem to have plenty of. They’re also extremely friendly with newcomers(like myself). That being said, the server I had at the beginning was a tad pushy with our ordering(as in she kept suggesting we order a number of various things). I would have liked it if she had perhaps recommended one or two items, and not every side option we did not order without her help. Final verdict — come for the beef brisket and the drunken chicken. Perhaps get them to go.

Was in the neighborhood and thought: Why not try one of the most raved-about, no-nonsense eateries in Hong Kong? Rather than getting the regular beef brisket noodle(a quintessentially Hong Kong dish, and the item for which this humble shop is most known), I had the beef brisket dan dan noodle. This wasn’t voluntary — I just saw the words«dan dan noodle» and reacted. It was delicious — that unctuous broth, those incomparably bouncy fresh egg noodles. The brisket itself was good, albeit forgettable. Still, this bowl of noodle soup was the most easily, inarguably tasty thing I’d had in Hong Kong up to that point. I evaded most of the masses by arriving at an awkward 3pm on a weekday. The space was still crowded, but relatively bright and clean. You’ll definitely have to share a table with strangers unless you come with a group of 3+. Compared to other noodle shops in their class, Sister Wah is a bit pricier: HKD46 for my bowl(I know, I know, cheap as chips, but it’s noodle soup in Asia). They also refuse to accept coins for payment because apparently HKD at the coin denomination is worthless. Dangit, economy!

A cool January evening and feeling the slightest bit of a cold coming on– I knew soup was needed. Luckily Sister Wah was there to rescue me right across the street. I’ve learned that Beef Noodle Soup here is a thing, and coming from Califronia… I was missing Phó. My favourite thing is beef tendon in Phó… and Sister Wah had just that– tendon and noodle soup. Beautiful fatty pieces of tendon floating in a lovely light, flavourful broth with your choice of egg noddle or rice noodle(I had egg noodles the first time, but prefer the flat rice noodles myself). At only $ 40, it is also a steal. Staff was quite friendly and helpful and apologetic for bumping you in the cramped space. The menu includes a fair number of other items, perhaps when the weather changes I’ll come back to try something else. Great quick stop in Tin Hau if in the area.

I discovered Sister Wah by total luck. While walking around Causeway Bay with a friend, we stumbled upon this little shop with a line of people waiting outside. Just outside of exit A2 of Tin Hau station, on Electric Road is Sister Wah. Quick to realize this is a beef brisket place, we decided to give it try. When we got to the front of the line,(which didn’t take more than 10 minutes) we saw all the newspaper articles about this place. Awesome, we found a gem! Greeted by a friendly man with glasses, he noticed my Starbucks cup and asked me if i had brought him any… haha. Once inside, its pretty much your normal noodle shop. No more than 10 tables that are shared amongst people with either their heads staring down into their noodles with headphones on, or a small group of friends buzzing about how yummy the brisket is. Right, ordering time. Quite a few options, but seeing all the articles outside were about the infamous beef brisket over some noodles in clear broth, any other choice just seemed silly. We did not make the wrong call. The noodles came quick, steamy, and full of aroma. Aahh~ Beef brisket was super tender and nearly melts in your mouth. The broth… all I can say is wow! I love how something that is so simple can be so amazingly flavorful. Some scallions sprinkled on top provided the hint of freshness to draw our full attention to the bowl and forgetting about each other. We also ordered a serving of turnips and they were also nothing short of spectacular. So sweet, so full of flavor… yum! This meal topped off with a nice cold cup of soy milk, fantastic! Our whole meal didn’t last more than 20 minutes from start to finish. We left as happy customers and will definitely return. It can be on a blazing hot day, and if I find myself in Tin Hau, I always get my beef brisket fix here at Sister Wah. Please note, there is also a location in Sai Ying Pun.
