Came by for dinner the other night and was surprised that a year after my first visit, the restaurant still only had a few tables during a weeknight dinner… Service by the staff was friendly and cordial. Roti Pratha was good. Not too oily. Beef brisket curry was very good. The beef was tender and the curry was good. The curry is great for dipping the Roti Pratha. Chow Kwai Tiu was the highlight of the meal as the noodles were fresh and had a slight kick to it. The Chinese sausage brought a fragrant taste to this dish! The Ong Choy was also very good as the beancurd flavoring made this dish super fragrant! 2 hours of complimentary valet parking with dining of $ 600+.

Satay Inn is a restaurant serving Singaporean cuisine in City Garden Hotel in North Point. I used to live not too far from City Garden, and there were a few times where I had lunch or dinner with my mother here. I’m a fan of Singaporean food — Hainanese chicken rice, bak kut teh(spare ribs), nasi lemak — I love them all. I don’t know many restaurants in Hong Kong that serve decent Singaporean food, but I guess Satay Inn comes pretty close, albeit being kind of expensive since it is a hotel after all! That behind said, the service here is good — waiters are polite and the food doesn’t take long to come. I normally get the nasi lemak when I’m here. If you’re not familiar with this dish, nasi lemak is basically rice with anchovies, peanuts, fried chicken and prawn crackers. The rice is cooked in coconut milk, making it extremely fragrant. The nasi lemak here is not bad at all. The portion is a pretty decent size, and it’s served piping hot. The rice is not too overwhelming in its coconut taste, and the prawn crackers are crispy and not too oily. The fried chicken is really tender too. My mother loves laksa, and that’s what she usually orders here. My mother is a big fan of anything spicy, and she says that the laksa here is just the right amount of spicy for her(which is pretty spicy, actually!) We always order half a dozen of chicken satay here to share as well. I love satay — I don’t know why, but food on a stick just tastes really good to me — which explains my love for kebabs too. Anyway, the satay here is not bad but a little oily. The peanut sauce that accompanies it is amazing though! I always drench my satay in the sauce because it’s that good! Overall, while the food here is pretty good, it is quite pricey. It gets to me that having satay, nasi lemak and laksa at a local food court in Singapore would probably be less than half the price! But if you’re struggling to find good Singaporean cuisine in HK, check out Satay Inn. In the meantime, I’ll be looking for more affordable restaurants that serve my beloved nasi lemak and satay!
