They used to be listed for the Best Hainanese Chicken Rice in town. I do agree the chicken is way above average and beat Hainan Shaoye. But the superiority, I cannot conclude. I do confirm their Laksa and chili crab is a must-try. With strong Singaporean cuisine character, the chain strives to create a whole south-east Asia signature menu, from satay screwers, Indonesian fried rice, Laksa, Barley water. It can recalls all your dinning experience in the Lion City. Chicken Satay beats all and some barley water is a rare hunt in other local places. Hands down for the Laksa, oh I will rate it higher than the ones I get in S’pore. Chilli crab there is pricy. Comes big in size, rich in meat, and juicy source. Unlike the garlic chilli crab of Hong Kong style, this one is more soft and greasy. Not cheap, but have not reached fine dinning. Take into account the ambience and service, this is a more than value-for-money spot.

I used to work in this building so Satay Inn was one of my favourite choices around the area. The reason why I really like this restaurant is because first of all, their menu is big — good selection; the food is consistent; the prices are reasonable; and finally, I feel like their food is quite authentic compared to the singaporean/malaysian restaurants in hk. I have been to the city garden branch as well but perhaps I am so familiar with this one, i like this one best. I have a few favourite dishes here, first of all, my utmost favourite(even though I don’t work around here anymore, I still go back specifically for this dish), the fried turnip cakes. The reason why I absolutely love this dish is because they use a lot of ingredients, shrimps, turnip, and my favourite are the chinese vinegarrred dried vegetables(I don’t know the correct name). They are crunchy with a bit of a salty kick to it. It makes such a good combination, making every bite crunchy to pair with the soft turnip cakes. The other dish I like from satay inn is their hainanese chicken rice… I know, lots of places do it well. but I like the condiments that come with this one. They also always present it so nicely. Finally, another one of my favourites is their bak kuh teh — singaporean medicinal pork soup. I love the medicinal flavours from the one they serve here. Lots of places around town that serve this dish minimise that flavour, but that’s what makes it yummy in my opinion. Some places make it a little too sweet, whereas here, it’s savoury and done just right. Authentic or not, I like what they have.
