Environment: Rowdy, fun atmosphere. Great to have a good vibe there with other tables happily eating. Food: Very good! Quality of food was high and meat was very flavorful. Everything also tasted fresh. Service: High quality service. Was able to make a booking. Staff at front of restaurant was friendly about finding our seats. Staff helping us grab food/drinks/bill were all really quick, helpful and friendly. Amazed that they could have very few people serving the tables but so efficient. Would definitely return.

I was at Him Kee last night. I used to come here more often but since the weather has been boiling hot these days, boiling hot pot does not sound as appealing. Nonetheless, it was a friends birthday last night and she loves hot pot. I have a few favourites here that I would get every time I came, one of them is the crystal dumplings with bbq pork inside. It doesn’t sound like a hot pot dish huh? It is, you boil it in soup and then the bbq pork inside becomes runny, it’s hard to explain, you got to try it for yourself! Another favourite is their fish skin. I know what you want to say, all hot pot places have it. noooo… it’s not the same! The one here is really really good. It’s extra crispy and tasty even if you ate it on its own. Promise! The szechuan spicy soup here is super yummy. At first, it seems a little too spicy but as you eat more, it surprisingly gets less and less spicy. it’s either that or my tongue starts getting better acquainted with it. All in all, the food here is above average. It is one of my top 5 hot pot favourites in hong kong. We did notice a small glitch though, their kronenbourg beer lady was not very helpful. We asked for the prices and all she said was«it’s already really cheap. $ 25 for the large one, $ 28 for the small one» … say wha!!! It completely threw us off until she explained the small bottle was for kronenbourg blanc. Overall, i like him kee and would come back again. when it isn’t as hot outside.

Him Kee has long been one of the more upscale hotpot restaurants in the Wanchai area(if not Hong Kong); in the old days upscale meant that you had really nice fresh food(their beef was nice and they knew how to charge you) and just a place with nicer décor. Nowadays? We have come to expect more, we want TVs, we want private rooms, we want our soy sauce palate to have everything conceivable type of add ons and beers are not the usual drink now. Whiskeys and wines rule the day meaning that this place has gone from upscale to stratospheric. So have the prices too. Is any good? Well it might be me, it might be the fact that we just have too many places to choose from these days, it might just be the fact that other places have become upmarket as well. The thing is that this place just doesn’t feel special any more. Yes, they have private rooms and no doubt they really put a lot of effort into making this place look nice. Thing is I come here to eat, and given the prices I expect a lot more than the stuff they give me. Are there any good points then? Yes, the location is great and I think you have to come here at least once so that you could compare the difference between the mainstream stuff and this place which still holds its own. I just think that the market has developed to the point that we are spoilt for choice and I don’t have to come here.
