I’ve visited this café now on my travels to Hong Kong a few times and it used to be so much nicer than it is now. Don’t get me wrong! The food’s lovely, it a refreshing change at breakfast to get a fresh baguette with a good strong coffee by a brand I recognise(Illy). There’s a lot of variation on the menu and the fact it is tucked away down one of the side streets of Tsim Sha Tsui makes it even more inviting! It’s just the space itself which lets this place down. Lack of direction and control of seating arrangements makes it an uncomfortable stay. Although I did not relax on this last visit to Passion, the food was lovely and I would go again.

Great French bakery. Had the quiche of the day. Delicious. Perfectly warmed up by the staff. Only 37HKD(a little over $ 5USD — a bargain for Hong Kong). Service was excellent. Highly recommended for affordable high quality food.

An excellent choice for breakfast. The quiche was some of the best I’ve tasted. After ordering from the counter, they warm it for you and it’s delicious!

When you need a mix up from dim sim and looking for something a bit special, this place shines from its surroundings. Decked out in a white exterior, passion offers wonderfully crafted French pastries and mini cakes. I fell in love with the la Boule passion– passion fruit and cassis(blackcurrant) with a crunchy chocolate base and the framboise millefeuille. The salads also looked super fresh along with baguettes. There is a range of hot and cold drinks on offer, including a pistachio latte which I took a gamble at. It was thick like soup and quite strong — required taste. Gérard Dubois, the Swiss-born pastry chef certainly knows how to treat his customers to a traditional French experience. I would certainly go back here, but maybe get a take away, as the lunch rush gets busy and there isn’t many tables and chairs available.

I come back to HK almost once a year(from the US) and I’ve passed by this place frequently and saw it last year when I came back. This time, I had the luxury and time to try out this place because I was craving western food. Being in TST, I have known the place to be less Westernized than in the Hong Kong side. I saw Americanized food and I knew I had to get it. I gave this place a 4-star instead of a 5 because of salad selections you could pick. I picked the Tuscan couscous, tomatoes & mozzarella, and potatoes for my small salad selection. The potatoes and tomatoes& mozzarella were great but when I got to the couscous, I was definitely disappointed. The flavor is great in the first bite but I have, NEVER in my life, seen so much oil on my fork from eating couscous. It was literally drenched in oil/grease. Couscous is supposed to be a considerably“healthy” dish but all that grease and oil drenched in the couscous really just makes it inedible. Next: Onto the desserts. I had the raspberry mille feuille, le boule cerise, and the apple crumble. Raspberry mille feuille was a good balance of tart and cream because mille feuille is extremely creamy to begin with. It was a better choice to go with raspberry even though I am not a fan of raspberry so I liked it very much. The Le Boule cerise was a choosing of my boyfriend’s. He chose it because it looked like a pretty red ball. It’s made from a morello cherry so it’s extremely tart. The mousse made from it turned out to be perfect to the tongue. Mousse is very soft to the tongue and soft in terms of texture, and perhaps too soft to the tongue so the dessert came with a chocolate rice treat on the bottom to hold as a stand. It’s chocolatey flavor wasn’t too strong and it looks a lot sweeter than it actually tastes. It’s very hard in texture so it’s a nice touch to the tongue when you get a really soft texture and hard texture together in one pastry. Lastly, the apple crumble. Mm, yummy. I’ve made my own version at home for the holidays with my family so I know what these are supposed to taste like. The apples were not strong in cinnamon and nutmeg flavors so it made the apple crumble a little sweeter than i liked it. I just wish I was able to heat it up so it would be like it was straight out of the oven. Then I would be able to put a dollop of haagen dazs on my apple crumble and it would be PERFECT! Last but not least, the service of this place. It was pretty good. I’m not sure if this is how western restaurants work in HK but I was very confused by the waiters there. You order on the counter and pick what you want. I chose one thing and one waiter would gather it for me. When I chose the next thing, a new waiter came up and gathered it for me. I was confused as to who I should be communicating with. But overall, service was pretty good to me. I just wish that the waiters would be more forthcoming about who was serving me.

I’m not a macaroon fan, so when I’m writing to give this place 5 stars for their macaroons I really mean it. Stopped by for some french/American inspired sandwiches, since I didn’t like the asian mayonnaise and butter sandwiches that my uncle eats. Nor do I like the asian cheap ham in my sandwich. I have up low quality when I graduated high school and left that cheap cafeteria food behind. The sandwiches are okay, but for HK, and if you want a taste of Europe or the USA then they are more than okay because they remind you of home. So, when I was looking through which dessert to get, the lady at the counter said their macaroons are well know. That sounded like a challenge so I had to try one. Wow, that one macaroon turned into 20, as I wound up buying a whole box and eating it all before I reached the end of the street. They had coffee flavors, coconut, etc, and they were all delicious. I couldn’t stop eating them. One of the best macaroons I’ve ever had, and I don’t even like macaroons!!!

Very good sandwiches at this french bakery. Delicious breads, desserts and freshly-prepared cafeteria items such as pastas and quiches. Good food to attract guests and free WIFI to retain them. Would definitely come back.

Very good quiche for breakfast, and the offerings from the bakery look amazing. Counter staff was helpful as well. Takes Octopus or cash only for orders under HK$ 200. Will definitely be back!

One of my favorite hang outs in TST. Love the pastries, salads, antipasto, sandwiches, and just about everything here! Again, it gets very crowded in the afternoon on a weekend. Can’t even tell I am right next to Mody street at time :)

French bakery in Hong Kong, yes please. I hate French food, but love bread. The fresh made macarons were pretty awesome! the chocolate muffin was one of the best I’ve had. The Chocolate croissant looked great, but my friend ate it all.

Passion by Gerard Dubois, is like an entrance of a different Wanchai block. Every time pass by the shop with those transparent windows, I have a feeling of walking in a small village. You can consider it as a full-chain of baking products, ranging from European-style breads to French pastries, and during peak lunch time, they also serve simple and healthy lunch set to the nearby office people. Do you know that there is a place in Wanchai, once you turn around the corner you may find yourself in a European town? I am not talking about the magical 9 ¾ platform from Harry Potter but a bakery and café called Passion by Gerard Dubois. Apparently it is French and it serves extravagant looking pastry and cakes. And the best part is you can see all kinds of desserts, baking products, macaroons though the display fridge. And I am telling you, you simply cannot resist from it after taking a glimpse. You may find quite an array of French pastries and European breads. However, I was more drawn to its macaroons. For some reasons, macaroon has been huge in Hong Kong. Especially for girls and they think it is the best thing they ever have, and thought they would not gain an ounce after devouring a small piece. Well, keep that up and we shall see. Anyways, I really enjoyed it and ended up buying a box for my family to share. As for other desserts, if I have time next week, I will go try them out.
