This is one of the must-go-to restaurants every time I come to Hong Kong(about 3 to 4 times a year). I should have written a review a long time ago, but there are sooo many great places to dine and tardiess on my part, I am now coming clean. Nadaman has been my favorite Japanese restaurant since maybe 6 years ago. They offer teppanyaki, shabu shabu, sushi and sashimi among others. On the sashimi side, they almost alway have the freshest abalone, prawns and lobsters. They would ask you not to order if the offerings were not fresh enough! A5 Kobe beef is always a staple there. I go there usually for Kobe beef negimaki(Kobe beef rolls with garlic and green onion inside. The chef would roll one at a time for you so you always have a fresh one instead of having the chance of the rolls getting not as fresh. I do get their abalones as well usually as a appetizer. They are always of good size and fresh. The reason I am so compelled to write is the service. If this review has a 10-star rating, the food would be 5-star and the service would be another 5. I was there about 3 weeks ago and finished a Kobe beef roll, a small piece of green onion got stuck between my teeth and I was discreetly using my tongue to dislodge it. Before I knew it, a small container of tooth picks was put in front of me, not anyone else in my party, by our waitress!!! What this really means is the staff are so well trained without giving you a feeling that you are being watched, and so observant that they anticipate you every step of the way in a good way!!! How often and where can you find that in State side?! Nadaman deserved every star available!

How did this restaurant get such great ratings?! The service was terrible. Our server was extremely rude. This is not what I was expecting for a «high end» restaurant. We had a table that was tucked away behind a wall. We were neglected. The server rarely ever checked up on us. The sever also rushed us right when we sat down advising us to start off with tea… didn’t even give us the drink menu or anything. Every request we made was turned down. In addition, we waited an extremely long time for our food. They had food sitting out by our table for quite a while. I can hear the table across from me complaining about the wait and if their server can check on their food. It turned out the food sitting by our table belonged to them. I’m disgusted that they would serve food that’s been sitting out for so long. Overall, the food and service did not meet my expectations.

Located in Island Shangri La, the food here is of very good quality and service impeccable. There are two sections: kaiseki and teppanyaki. The kaiseki section was fully so we ate at the teppanyaki section. Ordered a few handrolls and sashimi. They were fresh and tasty. The handrolls were among the best I have ever had. The teppanyaki was good quality and portion. The sirloin was big and juicy. One negative: it is not cheap.

Hotel Shangri La Hong is a beautiful hotel and it’s restaurants are worthy to explore, including Nadaman. Do yourself a favor and go to the Lobster Bar for one of their delightful handcrafted unique cocktails before to start your evening off. We went because we were seeking phenomenal sushi and we were extremely pleased, but think we still have room to find even better in Hong Kong. Staff is formal, attentive and professional, room is comfortable and welcoming. The room is simple, some might say too simple and plain when it comes to décor/design and the environment is more casual than I would have expected, but that is OK. In the description of dress, I would say some people were dressed up and others were in jeans and t-shirts. I would say the dress is properly described as «upscale casual.» The room has somewhat a view of the city… depends where you are sitting. They have a teppenyaki menu and a sushi menu. They have a sushi bar, private rooms and a main dining room. We ordered some tempura and only sashimi and some sushi Tempura was beautifully battered ever so slightly and vegetables were fresh and tender. The sashimi was an 8 on a scale of 10. The tuna and salmon were the best, with the flounder being close third. The toro was a bit of a disappointment, for we expected better(my husband said it was a 5 on a scale of 10). We did have a spider roll(shoft shell crab) that really was supremely fresh and we enjoyed very much. This restaurant is not lively or loud, but more simple and reserved. We enjoyed our evening and we would reccomend to others. Hotel Shangri La has many great restaurants and bars, I think we would try something else on another visit.

Continuing on my Hong Kong journey, this place was recommended to me by multiple friends, and it well lived up to expectations. The restaurant gives off a very elegant and sophisticated feeling to it, and the staff was very professional. The cod was grilled perfectly, and the sauce accompanying it brought out a truly sweet flavor. Both the beef and the shrimp were also grilled and seasoned well. Furthermore, the fried rice was cooked using the fat from the beef, bringing out an amazing umami flavor. The agedashi tofu was rich in its broth and the crab really complemented the flavor. Though it’s a bit on the pricey side, I would definitely recommend Nadaman.

Nadaman: The simple truth is that when you dine at a Japanese restaurant, it is best to go with a Japanese friend. Sitting at the sushi bar and ordering omakase is the best way to enjoy a wonderful meal. For Japanese customers the chef will bring out all sorts of delectable morsels for you to try. Rule number one of going to a good Japanese restaurant, expect to pay for quality. The procession of nigiri sushi was excellent. I would say that it rivals some of the top sushi restaurants in Japan. Enjoy but bring a fat wallet.

This is one of my favorite restaurants in HK. I would highly recommend you go for lunch because they have a reasonably priced lunch set menu. If you can afford to pay more, I would come any time — lunch or dinner. My favorite dish is the Gyuniku koumiyaki which is beef and rice, it comes with salad, veg, and soup. Only for lunch. For dinner, if you can afford to pay more, I like their shabu shabu, their sukiyaki, their set dinners, and also their rolls and sushi and sashimi. I do think It’s over priced, but I like it anyway. Oh and if you have a black Amex card you get 15% off. If you have AMC card you get 10% off. And if you have a shangrila loyalty card you get 20% off. Not just at Nadaman, but at all restaurants in Shangrila. Bet you didn’t know that did ya?

I’m not one for Japanese food but one of the few places I am willing to go every year is Nadaman at the Shangri-La. My family is always a big fan of the teppanyaki where they cook extra fresh ingredients in front of you in a show of culinary skill. For whatever reason we always get the same chef every year and we manage to sit in the same area. Maybe it’s because every year we have a large group of people who accompany us. Anyways, we head up to the top floor and always over the steak, fish, mixed vegetables and the fried rice. Their sashimi is always excellent and their black sesame ice cream is amazing! Book ahead of time otherwise you’ll never get a spot here. They have a beautiful window arrangement as well. Then after you’re done with Nadaman you can head over to Pacific Place and enjoy a nice walk and maybe shop!
