So when I recently told someone that the Lobster Bar at Hotel Shangri-La is my favorite Hong Kong bar, they then said I had to try the Mahalo Tiki Lounge in Waichan. With an easy walk from the MTR and up the the 29th floor of QRE Plaza, I grabbed a girlfriend and we were off for drinks at this tiki lounge. From off the elevator, you are submerged in a polynisian ambiance from bamboo styled chairs and walls to cute drinks in coconuts and full of rums. Staff was friendly from the moment we entered, to serving up drinks, to our departure. There is indoor seating, bar seating and outdoor seating of stools, chairs and even a few couches. Ambiance could be fun with a group or even a little romantic is you were with a date. A great view of the hillside of the citylights, fresh air and lots of seating. There is an extensive cocktail list… I mean really extensive. All drinks keep with the polynisian theme, were strong and priced like a popular Central bar(but without the bourbon street atmosphere of Central… which is makes it worth the price to me!) I loved this bar, thought it was a cool spot and although not as swanky as the Lobster Bar, an overall great bar. There are countless restaurants in the building, so I could see me going back for drinks and then grabbing a meal somewhere there in QRE Plaza. Or if you were doing a bar crawl, this would be a fun, unexpected stop.

This Hawaiian /Polynesian bar brings a touch of classiness to Wanchai. On the 39th floor, the drinks are definitely better than the bartender’s tacky Hawaiian shirts. On this hot summer night, the Mahalo Collins made this place the perfect refreshing stop for the evening. Either a warning or a «OMG must go» tip: their drinks were STRONG! Enjoy their outdoor patio space!
