This place is situated on the 2/F of Hutchison House. It is not easy to find. One has to make a few turns before finding the place. The place specialises in prime rib. The family ordered prime rib but I decided to go for the grilled rib eye steak as I have not tried this before. The steak was executed ok, but slightly over-cooked for the rare-medium I ordered, but not too tough. For some reason, the Lawry Cut and Diamond Jim Brady Cut both had large bones. We never had bones in Lawry’s prime ribs before, not sure the reasons for this. The presence of bones was not liked by the family members. Had lobster bisque for starter and this is still good.

We came here to celebrate Thanksgiving as it was going to be our 1st time without all the traditional fixings we normally get in the states. What better place to remind us of home than Lawry’s. The pluses: –The service and staff were very welcoming from beginning to end –My daughter’s kids meal was surprisingly very good. She ordered the fish and chips(Chilean Sea Bass) and the cream of mushroom soup. She had no problem finishing it. –The baked potato add on was delish. I had my fully loaded. The bacon was so crispy. –Coffee was very Euro — bold, caramely. –The staff was very attentive and made sure we were comfortable. The needs-more-improvement: –The turkey dinner was a complete let down(good I didn’t order it along with the rest of the fam) Portion was tiny, gravy was thick, the bird was just dry. –The apple pie… NO! It was just inedible. And I don’t usually turn away dessert. –The whip on the desserts should have been housemade, not from a can. That killed the desserts. The ice cream wasn’t even good, not even for a 5 year olds’s standards. –The cream of corn was too thick and needed some salt. –Mashed potatoes was very powdery. –The famous spinning salad had wilted iceberg lettuce. Oh how hard I tried to love it. –My Lawry’s cut ends were great but it was still missing some umph, like more sear time. –Restrooms…come on now. I can go any public restroom in Tokyo and it will still be cleaner. My brother, who lived in HK, said it was better than the last time he was here. However, I’m comparing this experience to my go-to Lawry’s in BH. Hands down, 90210 does it right every time. For the past 3 decades, I’ve never had a bad experience there.

A friend was visiting and wanted to eat real good beef, so I said lets go and try out the primerib. I had Primerib in San Francisco before so was really excited to check out this place. We ordered the lunch set with Spinning Bowl Salad, Cream Soup, Prime Rib Beef au Jus. We were not sure if it would be enough food for us, since the food portions has shrunk a bit lately in the restaurants in HK, so we upgraded the Prime Rib to California cut just to be sure we will leave this place full and satisfied. On top of it, wine tasting with 3 glasses of wine each. So whats the verdict? The food was delightful and we both went into food coma. It was a bit sad that we didn’t had room to finish off with the Fantasy Chocolate Cake which was included in the set menu. When we left, the staff still remembered my lastname when they said goodbye which I mentioned only once when we walked into the restaurant.

Order seafood dish in a steak house, it rarely happens! But I did it in Lawry’s Prime Rib! Haha! I visited this restaurant a few times before, however I had never tried their beef or lamb, but only FISH! If you find yourself in need of seafood instead of red-meat on Monday… Well, their«Pan-fried garoupa» !!Must try! The fish is seared to a crispy finish while maintaining its moist texture, so delicious!

Some of the best prime ribs in town and the weekend brunch set is one of the best deal in town I know of. The set already includes a salad and soup buffet. Just remember to save room for the actual entrée… The chef asked us our preference and gave us our serving~I told him I wanted to see some blood… j/k I just said I like medium rare. If you like your beef well-done, prime rib is probably not for you… I went to a restaurant once and my friend ordered prime ribs but requested it «well-done» I think her plate ended up in the microwave and she complained the meat was too tough. -.-||| Beautiful pinkish red with just a little bit of lard. The portion size is good too. It’s the first time I had prime rib(be it lunch or dinner) where I didn’t go into a food coma afterwards. I could actually enjoy my desserts and tea! My friend said after they moved to this new location, the interior is a little tired and the silverware used seemed to be downgraded. I regretted for not visiting this restaurant sooner but hey, they are only charging me HK$ 3xx. I really shouldn’t be complaining. Not to mention they offer special discounts to Citibank credit card holders and EXTRA Asia Miles!!!

Lawry’s is THE place to go to for roast beef! I’ve been coming here for a while now, though less so in recent years — my whole family loves it because it’s delicious food, great service and the ambience of the restaurant is super cosy. My last time here prior to today was actually well over a year ago, but my mother recently collected enough points on Asia Miles to redeem a two-person brunch here — so here we are! On weekends, Lawry’s does a set lunch where there’s a salad buffet and a dessert buffet, with your choice of main course in between. You also can pick between a glass of red or white house wine, juice, soda or sparkling wine, and then coffee or tea to finish off. All this leaves me pretty full at the end and I just feel like I’m comfortably sinking into a food coma! The salad bar is one of the highlights of a meal at Lawry’s. They’ve got different types of lettuce and four types of dressing, and to go with it, there are carrots, beets, cherry tomatoes, raisins, croutons… Need I go on? If you come here, definitely get a load of croutons to go with your salad. They’re nice and crunchy, and are easily some of the best croutons I’ve ever had! They also have smoked salmon — I had five or six pieces, no problem, and could have gone on but didn’t want to have used up all my appetite before my roast beef! For the main course, you can pick between a few including their roast beef, beef burger and crab meat linguine — I don’t doubt the quality of the other dishes, but it doesn’t make sense NOT to get the roast beef here! The roast beef is extremely tender and the sauce that goes with it really brings out all the flavor in the meat. It’s accompanied with some mashed potato that has its own gravy — it may just be a side dish to the roast beef, but don’t underestimate it — it’s delicious too! You also get some Yorkshire pudding to go with it all. The Yorkshire pudding has a really unique taste — it’s crunchy and soft at the same time. Take it from me — eat this while it’s still hot and have it with a generous amount of gravy! It’s really good that way. If you leave it till the end, it’ll be cold by then and won’t taste as great as it does when hot. Lastly, there’s the dessert buffet. This, to be honest, isn’t wonderful. There’s really just fruits and a small selection of cakes. When I was there today, it was melon and watermelon, and both were actually quite sweet. The cakes were disappointing though — firstly, there weren’t many, and the chocolate pudding was just strange. It was literally half cream with a little bit of brownie bits at the bottom. The little bits of mangoes on top of the mango pudding was good, but the pudding itself tasted artificial. I did like the matcha swiss roll though. Overall, the highlights of meals at Lawry’s are anything but the dessert. Everything else, though, is great, and a side note — the seating at Lawry’s is super comfortable! I’d definitely recommend coming here if you’ve never been before!
