Singaporean style food court with a variety of different vendors. Used to come here for the hainan chicken rice once in a while.

Similar to other reviewers here, we are not the usual patrons that food courts try to attract– its cheap, its quick and its usually not very interesting. However, Foodrepublic has really buckled this trend in offering high-er end choices in what is usually a public rendition of a canteen. they have brought in several notable names such as Dr. Pepper, Lee Fa Yuen and the place that serves Hainan Chicken rice whose name escapes me. This particular foodrepublic joint also benefits from the fact that its sat in the middle of the Olympic City mall, this way it becomes a focal point for shoppers and naturally you are drawn to sit down and have a bite. The general environment here is comfortable given the generous area and the only complaint I would have in this regard is the rather uncomfortable chairs they provide– it wouldn’t kill them to give you something that’s cushioned right? I’m not too sure about the random medieval décor as well, it doesn’t bother you but its just a bit random. As mentioned, the pepper lunch is my favourite haunt here though I have tried a number of other offerings too(wanton noodle, siu mei) and I am happy to report that its just streets ahead of other food courts I have been to. The only thing, as with all foodrepublic joints, is that drinks are served at a different counter and if you are catering for more than yourself then you will have to do several runs which is annoying. However, this place has really changed my perspective on food courts and I’m sure I will spend more time looking for places like this in the future.

I seldom go to food court unless I really struggle to figure what to eat; food court will automatically become my first choice because of the variety it has got. I have been working in Olympic for the past month and to be honest, the types of restaurants there are very limited(do not get me started with the Spaghetti house there… it has to be the worst one I have tried). Therefore, Food Republic seems to be a perfect choice for me. At first glance, I am very happy with the decoration there. The food courts I have been to seem not to pay much effort on the décor but this one certainly did. Located at the ground floor of the mall, it is nicely decorated with statues… and western backdrop. On your way down the escalator you can also see strings of flags from different nations to show how international this food court is. Not to mention there is a Starbucks right at the entrance, perfect. There are around 10 restaurants there serving all kind of cuisine. If this is your very first time to be there and not sure what to have, the Pepper Lunch will be your safest choice. However, I like the Hainan chicken rice as well. If you order drinks here you need to go to the bar station and get your drinks, that would be my only criticism though as that place does look a bit out of place and does not really go with the décor here. Anyway, The food here are very decent and I am a bit disappointed with the fact that it does not have a good dessert place there. Other than that, everything taste quite nicely and cheap as well(maybe from HKD$ 40 to HKD60, depends on which stand you go to). Still, to me, the part I like the best has to be the décor, it kind of gives out the high-end vibe though it is just a food court.
