I live just a few doors down from Classified, so of course I wanted to love it! But love is a strong word, no? Classified is this super cute café that serves coffee and tea, wine and beer, and is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Think Western when it comes to the cuisine — small tapas such as hummus, healthy fare featuring salads, ‘classics’ such as cheeseburgers and mac ‘n’ cheese, and large plates incorporating the typical proteins(chicken, beef, and salmon). They’re certainly not re-inventing the wheel, so I had high hopes that they’d nail their simple offerings. Not so much. Over the course of three separate visits, I’ve tried the avocado dip(tasted very processed), the chili fries(these were good), and the cheeseburger(didn’t even eat half). Now the cheeseburger had good intentions, but it was a tad overcooked and came with that telltale freezer-burn taste. Even the cheese was cooked too long — instead of resembling a slice of cheese, just melted, it was completely liquefied. Almost as it had been finished off in the microwave. Oh, and this underwhelming food comes at a pretty penny, too. Don’t get me wrong, Classified is a stylish spot that I know I’ll continue frequenting despite the culinary shortfalls. Just know her capabilities — free robust wifi and solid espresso drinks, yes — but I’m going to pass on the food going forward.

When Classified first opened in Happy Valley it was really fun to have an open air coffee, wine, snack place. It still is ok. The prices are a bit over the top but it’s nice to have a place to chill out and hang. You have a better seating arrangement than the bars and café down near the tram stop so that’s a plus. Classified is a nice alternative. Always great to have choices :)
