The people here are really nice, and the lunch special is a good value(real lettuce that wasn’t frisée!), but the tikka masala sauce tasted like barbecue sauce and the chicken was chewy. I ended up not eating most of it. Three stars for the people and the starters, but I think I’m sticking to veg if I come back.

I had the saag paneer lunch set. It was great value and great price, good portion of curry, naan, salad, semosa and soup. The taste i would give 3 stars, i found the curry a bit bland to my preference, but it was still very delicious and I finished every last bite. The restaurant was a bit small but i guess that is normal for HK. The tables were full, so its a popular eatery. The climate was a bit too warm, i wished they cranked up the AC a bit. Overall i enjoyed it and would like to try more of their dishes.

Fantastic food. The food was authentic, very tasty and good value. The ambiance was okay, nothing flash, the service was friendly. I would go back again for a quick meal.

A great Indian place with good value; I would definitely return. The service was friendly, the food delicious, and the atmosphere nice. I especially enjoyed the garlic naan, butter prawns and mango lasse we ordered :).

We really enjoyed this hard to find, off the beaten path, hole in the wall, authentic restaurant! Small restaurant with about 10 tables up 1 flight in a tiny elevator building. People who worked there(family/owners/staff) were all friendly and helpful. Food was delicious and very reasonably priced. Good portions too. See photos. I would return.

You may of noticed by now my love for the Indian cuisine, that is with the miss-placed arrogance that my reviews are entertaining enough that more than one is read! Anyway, now you know. There’s something special about a creamy, spiced-filled curry that is soaked up by some crispy — yet still soft on the inside — naan. The textures and tastes combine brilliantly to leave me in a state of contentment… and perspiring. Central Indian Restaurant works this exact magic time and time again. The restaurant is hidden away on the 1st floor in an alleyway nearby Sheung Wan and the only way I first discovered is was by a friend suggesting it to me. Once in front of the doors I’m confronted by a shy young indian waitress who assures me a seat will be available in five minutes — she’s never let me down thus far. The inside is small, maybe room for 35 people and so sharing elbow space during the lunch hour is almost a certainty. It’s not crammed, but the odd nudge is known to take place. Their lunch menu is a five course meal, which if combined efficiently is more like a two and a half course meal. A small soup is served followed by some fresh greens and a tiny appetizer. Then comes the main course. I’m a fan of curry but I’ve also tried the sizzling chicken tikka, which is also very good — the mains come with either rice or naan. Drinks come separate to the meal but $ 12 for an ice lemon tea isn’t asking too much. If I can remember correctly, the last time that I visited CIR I wasn’t able to finish the entire meal. I left one and a half slices of naan. To me that is borderline sacrilegious, however, after scooping up the entire curry in addition to the other food, try as I might, I couldn’t finish it. I will certainly return should I be in the area, I’d even go so far as to walk ten minutes from central… during summer to eat here. That says a lot!
