I visited this place in the summer and had really high expectations. The insides was really trendy looking. The service was subpar as you could clearly tell our waiter was having his first day on the job. The food itself was really not that special and there was even some dishes we barely liked at all. Thus, sometimes it doesn’t pay off just to look special, you also have to deliver something that feels special otherwise it just comes of as strange.

Splendid craft cocktails to compliment a creative menu. Like most places in Copenhagen, this gem won’t wow you with impeccable service, but the food was really something special. Come with a laid back attitude(or just start with a strong cocktail) and prepare to enjoy some delicious treats.

Very nice place to go for a romantic dinner or a friends celebration. The food is good –not the best one I’ve had in Copenhagen tho-, but it is still tasty! The service is okay. The location is very central and the atmosphere inside the restaurant is very hygge –cozy-. My boyfriend and I will probably come back again :-)

«Let’s get weird together» is their slogan. They have a gnome in front next to a sphere spewing bright green liquid. Their tables were already reserved so we were walking away and a hostess chased us to offer us bar seating. The Swedish bar tender was friendly and amused us the whole time. They have delicious cocktails and I wanted to try them all. Leek: With truffles, fresh cheese and brown butter. The presentation makes this dish look like a log on dirt. The stringiness and smokiness of the grilled leeks with fragrant truffles mesh well with the richness of the brown butter and sharpness from the cheese. 5⁄5 Spelt: With crab, blue mussel and green asparagus… all hidden in foam — like sea creatures emerging from the ocean. The shellfish were perfectly cooked and were not fishy at all. 4.5÷5 Beef: With oysters, cheese and heart salad. I honestly did not know what to expect from this dish. When the plate was put in front of me, I was like«did I order this?» The menu made it seem so simple but the plate looks and tastes more complex. The beef was cooked medium-rare, lightly seasoned and very tender. 5⁄5 Chicken: With parsnips. You get a thin slice of chicken breast with crisp skin that tastes fantastic on top of greens and thin parsnip slices, sprinkled with thyme. 5⁄5 Apple: With red currant, macaroon and junket. Imagine a ball of sweet cheese that was slightly flattened on apple compote oozing with currant sauce and then sprinkled with crushed macarons. Different flavors and textures. 5⁄5 Cherish Bellini: Bubbly, amaretto and cherry. This was the perfect drink. Nutty and sweetness from the amaretto plus the tang from the cherry liqueur. 5⁄5 Each dish on the menu is 115DKR. The Black Circus Show is any 4 menu items for 355DKR. If you want cocktails/wine with your menu items then, it’s 600DKR. Not a bad deal at all.

Delicious food, impeccable service but pricey. My friend and I tried the tasting menu(4 dishes for about 400kr). Each dish was simple, inventive and delicious! My favorite was the second appetizer of lox with toasted almonds. The service was amazing. They were attentive and gave us input into the timing of the dishes. The atmosphere was nice indoors. It was a rainy day so no one was outdoors, but it looked like a really great space. I’ll definitely consider it for a future fancy night out especially on a nice evening to try out that patio.

Amazing restaurant with very cool interior and wonderful service. My friend and I had a 530 reservation here and showed up right as they were opening. The whole interior was beautifully designed and there were loads of fun quotes scribbled all over the ceiling. We both decided to do the tasting menu with wine pairing and it did not disappoint. The welcome cocktail was one of the tastiest drinks I have ever had and was made with some sort of delicious fruit juice concoction. Each dish was beautifully prepared and the wine pairings were explained well by our helpful waiter. Everything was displayed beautifully on the plate and every dish was exceptional. By the time we got to the main entrée we were already stuffed but powered through. All in all a wonderful quirky experience in Copenhagen.

We ate here based on the high Unilocal rating and were very disappointed. In any big city this would rank no higher than a mediocre neighborhood restaurant. We had the 4 course tasting menu with wines. The first two courses were reasonable, but the main, a so-called rib-eye was so tough as to be almost inedible. And the rhubarb on top of the dessert had the same problem. We did like the fried fish skin and the avocado and shrimp appetizer, but that was not nearly enough to compensate for the problems with the rest of the meal. On top of all that, the wines were pretty poor, so by the end of the evening we were just happy to escape.

We found this restaurant on a Danish website and booked a table there. To make a long story short: We haven’t regret our choice. It is located in a small street in Copenhagen. You can buy a menu of up to 4 dishes. We choose the oyster mushrooms and the scalop as starters. Both were excellent and very tasteful. Highly recommended. As main courses we had the Tenderloin Steak, which was excellent grilled and fish. The steak tasted excellent and was served with mashed potatoes. Really nothing to complain. The Fish was also very good. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The restaurant is nice designed and offers a really good value for money, especially for Copenhagen. For starters, main courses as well as one bottle of very good red wine, two Gin and Tonic, a beer, two Espressi, one very good dessert(beetrolt icecream, highly recommended) and a bottle of water we paid DKK1,300.

Cute restaurant and am sure when the weather is warmer it would be super nice to hang out in the patio area. But all that aside, given the high ratings on Unilocal,I was disappointed that the food was merely ok. It wasn’t bad, but neither was it particularly special or interesting. Would I return on my own? No. Would I return if friends wanted to go? Yes

I went to Oliver and the Black Circus for my last night in Copenhagen with my boyfriend. We had an absolutely amazing experience dining here. The waitresses were very patient and knowledgeable about the food and wine pairings and were happy to help. We opted for the four-course meal with the wine and cocktail pairing, and it was the perfect amount of food and drink. The main courses were delicious and displayed in a very appetizing and beautiful way, and the wine pairings were perfectly done. The meal just flowed together well. We decided to stay for a bit after dinner and get a few more cocktails, which were also excellent. When we got up to leave we realized that we had stayed for almost 3 and ½ hours, but we never felt rushed during any of it. What a lovely dining experience!

Spectacular would be one word to describe this magnificent restaurant. Without a doubt the best dining experience I ever had! Great food, drinks, people. outstanding service! You must eat here if in Copenhagen.

I came to Oliver and the Black Circus on a rainy day this October– it’s tucked away with a garden courtyard so it was a bit difficult to find. In short, the restaurant had the best atmosphere of any restaurant I’ve ever been to in Copenhagen! It was simply hip without trying too hard while still being very cozy. The interior was designed with backlit bricks, blackboard painted walls and ceilings with chalk art, sofa-like booths, and plenty of candles. I felt like I was being entertained rather than fed at times! I had the four course meal with the coconut and lime cocktail while my friend had the six courses with the wine/cocktail pairing(the cocktail they start you off with isn’t very good– maybe you can switch?). My favorite courses were the scallop(first) and entrecôte for the main. I really loved the bath of elderberry in the dessert as well. Come for the atmosphere! If I were to come again, I would pick some items a la carte to share and get a drink or two rather than doing the tasting menu.

Oliver and the Black Circus was by far one of the best meals of my life. I traveled to Copenhagen with a couple girlfriends for the weekend — after some looking around on various sites, I decided to book Oliver and the Black Circus for the reviews — what a great decision! We booked a bit last minute for the weekend, so were only able to get a table for right when dinner began(at 5:30) — we were the first ones to arrive at the restaurant but over the course of the next 3.5 hours(yes we dined for about 4 hours), the place filled up with tons of energy. I would recommend getting there for an earlier reservation simply to get the attentiveness of the waitstaff before things get really busy — Service was friendly and attentive but it was particularly great to have a chat about each course and pairing as they were coming out as things certainly got crazy busy as the night went on. Given our last minute booking and placement, we needed to be moved for the last couple courses of our dinner — the staff took us to the bar but we didn’t feel like we had any less attention or service and were glad to soak up this alternative ambiance. As noted in other reviews, the restaurant is a bit off the beaten track –though it is central, it is down what seems to be more of a residential street — we almost missed it all together as when we arrived it was still quiet with the garden patio out front quite the contrast to the more hip interior. The descriptions on the website do not to justice to the dishes that came out — I would suggest doing the extra splurge and accompanying your dishes with the wine pairing and going for the full six dishes. From what I can see the menu has since changed from our visit — which for me is great news as it means we can only go back and be thrilled again. Recommended for a small group(to discuss each dish as they come out — you’ll want to!) or a dinner date.

I visited Oliver and the Black Circus in May. There’s a small«garden» outside, where you can have a welcome drink and chat while everyone arrives. Even though it’s located very central, it’s still kind of «hidden away». The inside athmosphere is pleasant too. A bit too loud from time to time, but nothing bad. The wines were great, the waiters were professional and friendly, and the food were enjoyable. Go there if you want to impress your significant other, for a business dinner or with family/friends if you want is to go the extra mile. Enjoy!

It’s been a while since I’ve been at Oliver And The Black Circus, but not only do I need to go again very soon, I also feel like I should put in writing how truly awesome this place is! I went with my boyfriend to celebrate our birthdays back last summer. We started out with a cocktail each, which were both delicious. Then we each went for the 5 courses, with only minimal doubling, so between the two of us, we tasted most of the menu. Every single dish was absolutely delicious! And what put the cherry on top of the cake was that the extremely nice waiter sat down with us and explained every new dish in detail — that was a really nice touch I haven’t experienced anywhere else. I won’t go into detail for each single dish, but to this day, my boyfriend says that the chicken breast with rhubarb and sweet corn was the best chicken he’s ever had in his life. All in all, a great experience, which I would highly recommend. Be aware that it’s on the pricey side but definitely worth it for me. Thanks for a great evening — will be coming back for sure!

My goodness… this experience at Oliver and the Black Circus made our stay in Copenhagen. EVERYSINGLEELEMENT to the experience was immaculately executed, almost in a Steve Jobs-ian style of perfection. The food was exquisite, creative, and very pleasing to the taste. The service and our servers were charismatic, funny, and incredibly engaging. And the ambiance of the outside patio was so cozy yet refined and sophisticated at the same time. Even if we hadn’t lucked out with the amazing weather, though, the inside of the restaurant looked just as inviting as the outside. If you’re a passerby in Copenhagen for the weekend or a regular, I sincerely suggest making this a destination of yours. You are not eating regular food but instead art on a plate, and you can see what it’s like when restauranteur masters are at the top of their game. Should we ever make it back to Copenhagen, you better believe that we’ll come back for another experience.

So I’m a little late to the game on the new restaurants scene lately, but I have been pretty pumped about Oliver and the Black Circus ever since I laid my eyes on the concept. You know when you hear all that rave about the newest movie that comes out and then by the time you finally get to it you’re kind of like, «meh, that was OK.»? Finally made it there last week and experienced nothing of the sort. The food was delicious, well prepared, well timed, fresh, local, in season, uncomplicated, and simply put, beautiful. Every course on our 4-course chef’s menu wow’d the whole table, though admittedly our reactions to our progressive foodgasms got more enthusiastic as the wine pairings made their way to our livers. The service is wonderful and as promised, so very unpretentious. The vibe is almost gastro-pub and it’s easy to settle in and get comfortable pretty quickly. They have an amazingly large table out front in the garden that would be a fantastic place to have a meal on a warm summer night(which I hope we get a LOT of this year, just sayin’). Pro-tip: if you are gluten-free, be nice and let them know in advance. We didn’t do that even though half our table was, and they were still more than willing to accommodate with gluten-free bread, AND switched out the spelt risotto from the 4-course menu with the tartare at no extra cost, which we all know is not an equal trade(but I’m certainly not complaining).

I recently went here during Eurovision week in Copenhagen after we had booked a table for 6 via a recommendation from a friend’s Danish friend. The website portrayed as fine dining with the pretentiousness, which is what we wanted so had high expectations. We all chose the 4 course menu with drinks option which was 600DKK or about £65 and included a starter, fish, main and desert as well as a cocktail to start and a glass of carefully chosen accompanying wine. We weren’t disappointed. The food was delicious, the wines were perfect and the service was as they describe, attentive but without all the faffing. Our waiter was part I chalky good on the eye and like most Danes, spoke fantastic English so we chatted about Eurovision and what we thought of Denmark with him. Which was great. We felt we had a great experience and left with full belly’s and feeling rather merry. Definitely worth a look for a nice meal, whether it be something special or even a nice evening out. We spent three hours in there and not once felt we outstayed our welcome. Lovely.

I’m wavering between a 3 or a 4. It’s hard to say. So let me just get the facts out of the way: — They do price-fixed menus and you select from a very small one pager of items. — They tell you each person has to order 3(295 dkk), 4(375 dkk), or 5 course(440 dkk), but you can actually do a 2-course(210dkk) — If you tell them you want to order a 5-course to share, they will just charge you a 3-course and a 2-course without explaining the system to you(which ends up being a lot more expensive per dish) — With every course, the server will come up to you, sit next to you, and explain what the dish is. We had: — Green pea soup — avocado — mint — cava: I read rave reviews about it, but I was really underwhelmed — White asparagus — prawn cracker — horse beans — mousseline: It was good, but not great — Chicken — rhubarb — green asparagus — sweet corn — cream sauce: chicken was a bit dry — Veal tatare — kohlrabi — fennel — green butter milk sauce: surpsingly delicious — Todays fish — cauliflower — browned butter — new potatoes — truffel oil: AMAZING, my favourite dish of the night, and perhaps ever. — Passion fruit martini — it was good, but expensive The service was great. I’m just not sure at over 100EUR after drinks the food stood up to the price.
