Awesomeness, or in the words of Unilocal,«As good as it gets!» Copenhagen had proven to be quite impressive in the food and restaurant department, we were nervous to ruin a perfect record… but good luck smiled down on us, Restaurant PUK lived up to its reputation! We arrived at 15:45 in the afternoon, not knowing the kitchen closed at 16:00. Nevertheless, the staff was very accommodating and promptly seated us at a beautiful table outside. Delightful afternoon, fantastic weather… the umbrella proved quite nice in the shade of a sunny day. They quickly took our order and provided us with our drinks. Food was promptly served — hot and delicious! I ordered the Shrimps Open Face Sandwich served with homemade mayonnaise. My spouse ordered the Smoked Salmon Open Face Sandwich served with scrambled eggs and chives. We both ordered a side of French Fries which was served with a mustard remoulade. The meal was phenomenal. Absolutely the best eating in all of Copenhagen!!! I’ve attached a couple of pictures for fun. The picture of the French Fries shows the mustard remoulade which was just thick enough and flavored perfectly. The Open Face sandwiches are pictured ½ and ½ together — my spouse and I split our meals. On the left you will see the Shrimps and the right you will see the Smoked Salmon. Both were perfectly served. The Shrimps was served atop a white bread with dollops of mayonnaise that was sweet and light, adorned with dill. The Smoked Salmon was served over an earthy Rye bread with warm & fluffy scrambled eggs. If appropriate, we would have licked our plates clean… every bite was heaven! If you are looking for local quinine, affordable prices, excellent ambiance(even outside!), responsive staff and the BEST eating in all of Copenhagen, you will find it at Restaurant PUK, no doubt!!! Enjoy!!!

A quick stop here between sights turned into a lovely relaxing meal. The lunch options range across traditional smarrebrod options to medium sized plates of meatballs or pork. I had the meatballs and potato salad with some delicious beets and pickles. Every bite felt like a hug from Denmark. The staff are friendly and fast if you need them to be, but the setting on a small square will keep you longer than you thought you wanted to stay on a nice day. If I had more days in town, I would have come back!

Very good food and easy to find place! We had the burger which was out of this world and a super fish soup! Very nice tease also, for May it was pretty warm.

For my first meal(lunch) in Copenhagen, I wanted something very Danish. And what’s more Danish than smørrebrød, the open-faced sandwich. I found that Restaurant PUK was just a few blocks away from my hotel, so having checked in, made my way. I almost passed it, as the entrance is a small doorway down a short flight of stairs. But once in, found a welcoming atmosphere of tables. bookshelves, and booths where people were quaffing beer. One of the friendly waiters showed me to a table and gave me a menu. Oh, choices, choices… I saw the marinated herring and thought how much more Danish could I get? But then I saw the Tartar Classic. I asked my waiter which he would choose, and without hesitation, said he loved tartar. Done! It was marvelous! Fresh, lean meat ground and placed on top of a piece of dark rye bread. Served with freshly-grated horseradish, a raw egg yolk, capers(yum!), onion and a sprinkling of green. Side dishes included pickled red beets and pickled vegetables. The tastes were out of this world! In this city where American restaurants and fast-food joints are everywhere, I am happy that I found one of Copenhagen’s oldest and most traditional eateries. I will be going back for the herring…

Came here after some shopping on Stroeget street since it’s just a few blocks South. This was based off a recommendation from a local who worked at the hotel and after seeing some delish pics on Unilocal I decided it was worth a try! Plus, you can’t leave Copenhagen without trying some smorgsbrod right??? I asked for a recommendation and the server recommended the picked herring one, first item on the first page of the menu. Pickled herring and boiled egg and capers on rye… Can’t say I’m a regular herring eater? But it seemed like a local food. So … Ok. He also told me he had some local brew on tap called the Puk Special that was 100x better than Carlsberg so I decided to try that as well. My hubby got the meatball open face. My dish was really weird. The herring was uncooked sort of like a smoked salmon but with a strong taste. It was… Not my taste but I am happy I tried it. It’s always fun trying something new so I don’t dock any stars for that! The meatball was a much safer choice and I tried sneaking bites of my husband’s dish because I liked that much better lol. Definitely a great place to dine! It was a nice sunny day and we enjoyed a great lunch!

Best meal we’ve had in Copenhagen. They serve the traditional Danish food we’ve been looking for. Martin took very good care of us and we hope to come back!

I was looking for restaurants with nice ambience to celebrate my second year marriage anniversary and I found this restaurant. My husband and I had difficulty looking for the restaurant because it was underground! We weren’t used to finding restaurants that made us go down the stairs from ground level. The restaurant’s ambience was great! My husband ordered a beef fillet dish while I ordered a cod dish. I read some reviews which commented that the portions here are big. But to my disappointment, the portions weren’t as big as I expected. Coming from USA, the portions served in this restaurant are considered small. However, the ingredients used were fresh and it was healthy eating. My husband and I were happy with our food but wished that the portions could be bigger.

Good for a lunch stop. Different than your normal place. In the basement making it cozy. Food came out fast. Good service

Amazing food and great beer. The ambiance is perfect and completely hygge. :) Great cozy spot for lunch. I ordered the meatballs and potato salad. They were superb. The service was a bit lacking. We barely got checked on and felt largely ignored. At one point the waitress said she forgot our order. We had already been waiting for more than a half hour. Two hours later and our waitress was nowhere in sight although we had other things to do. She was friendly and the food was amazing, but they definitely need more waiters on service. Overall I’d recommend for a cozy lunch but don’t expect a quick one with much attention.

Decent food for decent(Scandinavian) prices. Service is friendly and portions are large. However we were told by the waitress there is no sharing allowed. Recommend the salmon as it was the best out of the four entrees we ordered:(in order of my preference) salmon filet, fried veal, roast pork, minced beef. Puk beer is very drinkable but nothing exceptional. Reservations definitely needed. It was empty when we arrived but multiple groups were turned away due to having no reservations.

Oh, hey old school Danish spot serving up some hearty fares and big portions. Located in the basement dwelling, this very cozy pub dates back to 1750 and serves up heavy meat forward Danish fare: think herring, steak, a burger, pork and so on. They also serve up the Smørrebrød so you can get that whole traditional dining experience all at once… score! The food is really good. Very simple and basic eats, but sometimes ya just need steak, potatoes and beer.: Nods head: That’s exactly what PUK does and they do it well. Service is decent and they offer a reasonably priced beer and wine list. Prices aren’t cheap(welcome to Scandinavia), but portions are so large that I really can’t find fault spending the $ 20-$ 30 entrée prices. Nothing fancy here, just some comfort food in a historical setting. A perfect place to enjoy a Copenhagen chilly evening. Reservations are encouraged and thanks to Unilocal easy to do without having to call. I wouldn’t necessarily say a ‘must do’ visit, but definitely a wonderful option that won’t break the bank!

Had to try traditional Danish food while here; especially frikadeller(meatballs)! Came here late and it was slow on a Sunday night. Even though they usually don’t serve the meatballs for dinner, my server was kind enough to make an exception. Solid gravy, potatoes and beets. Great traditional ambiance and lovely service.

You can reserve a table here on Unilocal, problem is the restaurant may, or may not honor it. I made a reservation two hours in advance on a Sunday evening at 7:45, when I arrived at the restaurant I was informed that they do not check the Internet reservations during the evening and that the restaurant was fully booked. I cannot provide a rating as I did not dine here.

Liked this basement restaurant so much that we went back for a second visit during our stay. For first timers, try the multi-course sampler which allows you to make your own smørrebrød(staff will explain what goes where). The herring salad is delicious and is available on the sampler or as an appetizer. Try the house-made akvavit which is infused with honey. Note: the restaurant will be moving around the corner on August 1st, 2016.

This place is so hidden next to a bar that you might miss it, so don’t! Service was okay, a little slow returning to our table in exile near the entrance, but the food was outstanding. We ordered the evening platter and got to taste three different kinds of fish(pickled crown herring, house smoked salmon and fried flounder filet), two meats(roast pork and liver pâté with bacon) and one cheese dish. Two beers later each and we were, sadly, too full to try any of the desserts. Hopefully we get a chance to return.

This was my first Danish meal in Copenhagen. I was very skeptical as to where to go because 1) food is not cheap, so I wanted some place that’s worth it 2) there are quite a handful of options 3) there really isn’t a traditional Danish meal. I’ve asked so many people and it’s basically meat, potatoes and cabbage… I decided to try this place after reading so many good reviews and looking at pictures! I can happily say that I was really satisfied with my meal! I would recommend making a reservation because they get really busy. I had the Puk Stew and when it came, I was really amazed. The mash potatoes were so good, but I was too full from the stew that was screaming with flavors. If I had another stomach, I would’ve finished the perfectly seasoned mash potatoes. My mom had the Roast Pork, which she thought tasted good, especially the crispy skin! But she liked the Puk Stew better! So definitely try the Puk Stew. It has pork and crispy bacon in it and mushrooms! What I did love about my moms dish was the cabbage. Delicious! I would love to be back again!

These two Texans have eaten our share of burgers but declare this place to serve up the best burgers we have ever eaten: the Max Burger — typically amazing Danish bread, sautéed onions, barbecue sauce and a fried egg. So good, we wanted to cry. This is a local hangout — no tourists found here. The door is well-hidden but well worth the search! Very typical Danish fare and not to be missed.

Came here for dinner with a couple of friends. The waitstaff were extremely friendly and accommodating! My friends ordered the dinner platter while I got the free flow fried pork. Well, one plate was way too much for me so I didn’t manage to get another, I was too full! My friends also said that their dinner platter was excellent, the fish was fresh and the liver pâté was fantastic. Will definitely come back to try the salmon!

A fantastic place for authentic Danish food. Service is excellent and the food is simply awesome. Been here a couple of times and will come back. The Puk special brew beer is awesome. All in all a fantastic place! Cozy and authentic.

Copenhageners love their food… and feasting, so good luck trying to get a table at the best restaurants here… we were out of luck when Puk was our 4th place after not being able to get a table at Oliver and the Black Circus, Bror, and Atlas Bar… Puk was our last option… but we should have passed… We were hungry and tired from all the sightseeing, walking in the rain, and just walking every where in general. We were pretty desperate after the other 3 places turned us down. We waited about 10 minutes for this place. We decided to do the Danish evening platter for 2… the portion came with 6 plates. The first 3 plates I felt were more of the fish dish. –Herring with sour cream: smothered in this overly sweet sauce, the herring was barely recognizable. –Pickled salmon: The salmon was WAY too fishy, tasted like the salmon was rotten –Fried filet flounder: I could not taste the flounder, instead all I tasted was dough Already disgusted with the palate so far, we were hoping the«meat» portion to be better than the fish. The next 3 plates… –Bacon with liver pâté: the bacon was the saltiest bacon we ever ever had, somebody probably spilled ALL the salt on it, it was unbearable… the liver pâté was okay though –Roasted pork with red cabbage: the driest pork I ever had, the cabbage was good, but the pork was so dry it was beyond saving from the cabbage… there were beets and those were good –Cheese & grapes: probably the most enjoyable thing of the whole meal, cause can you really go wrong with cheese and grapes? Cheese was delicious and grapes were good I’m not sure if we ordered the wrong thing, but our server said this was popular and it was pretty«Danish». Guess we know now we do not like Danish food. Also service was slow and inattentive. I was really sad because I love ALL food and pretty easy going, but I could not stand what we had… We really wanted to «puke» after our dinner. We had to brush our tongue several times to get that«puk» taste off.
