Tot Wheels

Food is awesome but service can be pretty slow, especially at lunch time. Worth the wait though if you have a long enough break.

Darryl Crumb, former contestant on Top Chef Canada Season 1 is now running a gourmet tater tot food truck which goes by the name «tot wheels,» a play on the toy Hot Wheels with similar signage too. He was there during the weekday lunch at 275 Broadway between Smith and Garry. It’s not the processed tater tots you’re thinking of as it’s more like a potato croquette that’s topped with fresh ingredients. The price is around $ 8-​$ 9.50 for an order which is the size of those small paper containers (similar to the size that that Taco Time mexi fries are served in). I tried the «lola» which was topped with a lot of bacon, caramelized onions, sour cream and fresh dill. The potatoes had a nice creamy texture and well seasoned though the exterior was not that crispy. There was a generous amount of bacon though I wish that was crispy as well. The dill helped to give this heavy dish a bit of lightness. LOL… it was caloric overload.
There are a lot of various flavours to try with very interesting toppings. The kid order is cute as you get kool-​aid and an actual hot wheels toy! Super cute.
