On Jan 27/16, I had the misfortune of eating at Swiss Chalet, in Windsor and man what a disappointment. We got seated, with no eye contact, no smile, just winter coollllllll. When asked if we wanted a beverage and we mentioned water, this simple refusal of an additional paid beverage was the beginning of a bad experience to be had. Already attitude reared its ugly head, and the coolness continued. We ordered 2 specials, one dark and one white{their chicken], The dark ¼ chicken dinner arrived, the baked potato taking up most of the plate, and 1 piece of garlic toast, also tiny and my ¼ chicken, one tiny leg[wish I had taken a photo so you wouldn’t think I was exaggerating]. My wife had a decent piece of white meat, 3x my size portion. I put a coupon on the table as we were eating, and that didn’t go over to well, as we were suppose to show them as we ordered. She grudgingly took it and disappeared. After our meal, we awaited the water finger bowls to cleanse our fingers, but it never did, as we forecasted, due to that I don’t give a damn about you attitude of our waitress. As a courtesy, I won’t mention her name, but if you ever get her, you’ll remember this review and say OMG! The bill finally came, and I had to really dig deep in my heart to even give her a tip, which was only 2.25 on a 28.00 bill. To be totally honest, I almost left 0, just to let her know, how much we enjoyed our experience. Should you dine here, watch out, especially for servers that feel cold upon first contact. Some don’t want to be here, and unless you order a lot, with beverage, main meal, dessert, etc., don’t expect memorable service. Wish I could be more positive, but sometimes the truth hurts… D

We went to the Swiss Chalet on Jaunary 1st. There was a total of five tables and three wait staff and two managers. We arrived at twelve, we were the first ones in the door. First we were told they were out of ribs. Okay, so we ordered chicken and a veggie burger. At 12:15 we were told the were waiting on chicken. What? Isn’t chicken the main dish you serve? And why did we see people leave with take-out? Then at 12:25 we were told they were waiting on the burger. We got our food just after 12:30. One half hour of waiting! The burger was dry and overcooked. This is not the first time we have waited at this particular location, hence the review. This particular location needs to get it together. Worst service of all the Swiss Chalets we have been to and the worst service of all restaurants this season.

Best Swiss chalet in Windsor. Restaurant is clean, staff is friendly, food is great. That explains why it is always busy. Keep up the good work!

Eating in is ok. But we got a rotten baked potato once. And when we complained they said we would get a complementary meal. They gave us a hassle when we tried to redeem it. And their chicken is really dry.

We have been going to various Swiss Chalet’s for years. The one in Windsor is close to home, so we go there more often than other locations, but we have stopped at others when on the highway travelling in Canada. This is along the lines of Wienerwald in Europe. It is rotisserie chicken and it comes simply with fries, coleslaw and a roll. I always get a half chicken, but I think you can get a quarter chicken too. The big plate of food comes with a nice dipping sauce that, although a little greasy, is quite tasty. They do serve alcohol and they also have desserts.

This is one of my two or three favorite meals anywhere. I have only given a 5 to Shatila Pastries. .. here is my second 5. Swiss Chalet Chicken is a chain of family friendly rotisserie chicken restaurants all over Canada. Growing up in metro Detroit, I was introduced to the Swiss Chalet in Windsor, Ontario(across the river from Detroit). The chicken itself is similar to Zankou Chicken in LA(rotisserie style, well cooked, but not too dry, well seasoned-but not nearly as garlicky as Zankou). The usual sides are very crispy French Fries, a warm, soft roll, and a Canadian style cole slaw, that I swear was a different recipe when I loved it. Sounds simple? Yes, but what sets this apart is the amazing dipping sauce. «Chalet Sauce» comes warm in a dipping cup and is perfect for dipping tender pieces of chicken and/or fries. I like to tear off some chicken, add some fries and roll in up in the bread roll, then dunk the whole thing into the tangy, brothy, tomatoey, savory, thymy(is that a word) sauce. Heaven. Comfort food. My Swiss Chalet addiction is so bad that when visiting Detroit, or even relatives in southern Ontario towns like Guelph, Cambridge or Kitchener, I make the obligatory stop at Swiss Chalet first. Its simple, comfort food at its best. 5 stars all the way, and I don’t just give those out! ps You can order the powdered sauce online and try to re-create the meal here in LA. .. buy a whole rotisserie chicken(Zankou comes close), make or buy fries(Pollo Loco’s fries are similar) and make the sauce from the mix. .. warm the sauce, have some soft dinner rolls and butter. .. its close and cheaper than flying to Canada.
