Walkerville option — nice ambience — single waiter for whole restaurant — he fixed all the issues — nice guy. Many choices, something for everyone. Tempura shrimp(not sushi) very nice. No sushi with nori on outside. Dishes attractive, 18% added gratuity NOT.

Quality of fish is good, sushi rolls are fair. Had the opportunity to order an assortment of food/rolls to try it out. Wasn’t too impressed, food was very overpriced for what you get. Staff was attentive and polite during our dine in

I follow their Instagram account and corrected them on their spelling of kanpai*(they keep spelling it kampai), and also pointed out that«big eye tuna» is more commonly know as Ahi tuna, never hearing it referred to as «big eye tuna». They replied by deleting my comments and blocking me. I’m not quite sure that’s how you run a business when a customer corrects you, but ok. I will not be returning when I am back in town visiting a friend, nor will my friend and her husband.

I’ve ordered twice from sushi guru. The first time was very disappointing. I’m an east coast girl so I know fresh lobster and crab. This is not that. And if it isnt canned it’s days old! Foul tasting seafood. No flavour, and mushy rice. Do not go here for sushi. 14 $ for a roll with lobster and filet, tastes so bland, it’s really disrespectful to the ingredients more then anything. I ordered again to give them the benefit of doubt. Just as awful as the first time. Don’t waste your money. Even the edamame was undercooked and I didn’t like the seasoning on them(but that could just be a preference) All in all, two orders of food went in the trash. Worst sushi in the city.

I was meeting a friend for lunch and she wanted to meet at Sushi Guru. The neighbourhood is quite nice and has a hipster kind of feel. The restaurant is nicely decorated and very clean. I was greeted happily by the chef, and a man who appeared to be the owner. I chose my seat since I was the only patron at the time(it was at about 3 pm in the afternoon so it wasn’t a peak time). The chef and owner asked me how I found out about them. I simply said that I wasn’t from Windsor and a friend suggested the location. The cocktail menu here is quite large and very unique. They have Sapporo on tap so I got a pint. I ordered the guru platter which had 8 pieces of sushi and California rolls. It came with a miso soup. The soup was darker in colour than I was used to but it had a ton of flavour. It had lots of tofu. The seaweed was a bit on the soggy side. The sushi was very good. The fish was so soft, it melted in your mouth like butter. The yellowtail had a bit of a strong taste that I wasn’t used to. The waitress that we had was really great. She ensured we were good for drinks and she had a great positive vibe. This sushi is different than other restaurants I’ve been to. The pieces had taste and texture that is very above average. I think they put a lot of extra care in the ingredients and preparation. I’ll be happy to recommend this place to anyone in Windsor!

Sushi Guru earns all of its stars for fish quality. They pride themselves on their Hawaiian tuna, and it is truly very good. It’s meaty, deep red and buttery. I tried hamachi and salmon as well, and those were pretty good too. Anything good I would say really stops there, unfortunately. The service was, well, a head-scratcher. Our server was Geoff and he was bumbling in a way that only an owner could be. After being ignored several minutes after we sat ourselves,(there is no other option, we were ignored when we walked in as well), we got some menus. By the time we got water, we were ready to order, which we told Geoff immediately as we were in a slight rush. He walked away then came back in a minute to only take our drink order. Then he came back again, asked us if we were ready to order, and said he would be back in a minute with his notepad. When he came back with the notepad two minutes later, he asked us if we were ready to order. I can’t make this stuff up. I should make clear at this point that he was not busy. He had one other table of two, and that table sent something back as they ordered sashimi not nigiri. The waiter’s perfect foil is the miserable sushi chef. In no way do I go out, least of all for lunch, and look to be charmed or entertained like some people hope. But a verbal greeting, head nod, or any sort of nonverbal acknowledgement that you’re a human being would be terrific. Then again I’d be pissed to work with Geoff too. We had the Windsor roll, the guru roll, and the judo chop roll in addition to our nigiri platter. They were alright. As anyone who reads my reviews knows, I’m not a huge fan of sushi that’s very dressed up. In this case, though, I liked some of the ingredients quite a bit. The guru roll was our favourite. I felt like the rolls were not rolled very tightly, though it is worth noting that my brother, with whom I was dining, did not agree. Sushi Guru has great tuna. Everything else is alright, but expensive and very unpleasantly presented. I work around the corner and don’t think I’ll be back. I don’t recommend you go, either.

Red Flag! If the owner(and in our case also our waiter) doesn’t know what vegetable tempura is… leave! Brutal experience three adults three kids when wee arrived there was NOONE else in the restaurant. Over an hour to get our dishes and in the end we decided to leave with some as take out because it took so long. The biggest issue… even after apologizing and giving a small discount, the owner still felt it was appropriate to give himself an 18% gratuity! Back of house good front of house shocking!

First time I have finally eaten a good bao bun outside of Toronto which is a favorite dish of mine 1st ones came with pork Belly and if you haven’t tried the dish that made David Chang famous at Momofuku than you haven’t truly lived a foodie life

Had our first visit this week. Food was variable — some of us really liked the mango love roll, others less so. One point of agreement was that the proteins on the nigiri pieces were top quality. The tuna was particularly well cut high quality pieces. Service was okay in terms of attentiveness, although a tad pretentious for the environment. The«very-local» server actually corrected the pronunciation of one of our party(she had lived in Japan for three years). Food came out slowly considering we were the only ones in the place when we arrived. A couple walked in, sat at the bar, weren’t acknowledged by any of the four employees(in the empty restaurant) and left 10 minutes later. Our drinks were slow… our food was slow… this seemed to be a kitchen thing rather than a server issue, but in the end it was more likely poor management and supervision.

I came here today with my friend and we were happy that it wasn’t busy(because since it opened we’ve seen so many photos where it was basically full) so we could grab a table. Sushi Guru is located adjacent to The Twisted Apron and across the street from The Willistead Restaurant. The interior is lovely and modern that extends to its walls, lights, and furniture. We ordered the spider roll, spicy tekka maki(spicy tuna), pork dumplings, a Guru Shochu Cosmo, and a Guru’s Skinny Girlfriend. The pork dumplings came out first and I was confused because they looked like wontons I can buy at any of my local Asian convenience stores. They tasted good but I can get great tasting wontons for cheaper and make the most out of my money. These ones were $ 6 for an order of five dumplings. Our drinks came out next and we were pretty excited. Maybe it’s just my friend and I but the Guru Shochu Cosmo($ 8) wasn’t sweet enough and tasted a tad bit bitter. The Guru’s Skinny Girlfriend($ 7) also wasn’t sweet enough but I guess that’s to be expected with the«low calorie pink lemonade.» You could clearly taste the alcohol in both drinks which we were sort of okay with but if we had known that we would’ve just stuck with our water. The spider roll($ 12 for 6 pieces) is made with tempura soft shell crab, cucumber, avocado, and mango. It was served on top of a drizzle of teriyaki sauce(I think?) and a creamy spicy sauce. For me, that ruined the roll. It does not say on the menu that it comes with sauce and if they’re going to not show that at least put the sauce on the side. The roll tasted much better without the sauce. I normally do not use soy sauce for my rolls because I don’t want to mask the taste but today I did because the sauce was just gross(to me.) The crab also wasn’t as crispy as I thought it would be it being tempura and all. My friend really enjoyed her spicy tekka maki($ 7 for 8 pieces) and liked the sauce that my spider roll came with. My friend would come here again because she liked the experience(maybe skip the drinks next time.) For me, I’d come back only if my friend(s) wanted to go. Otherwise, I’d prefer to go to Hikari where their simple yet tasty Dynamite roll costs only $ 4.

Went here to eat a couple of days ago and it was delicious :) All the meat on the nigiri was cut thick and it tasted very fresh. The tempura batter is thicker than other places but it made the tempura shrimp roll more crisp and was very good. No complaints on my end. Would I recommend you visit here? Yep!
