We have proudly been serving authentic english style fish & chips for over 80 years! Our batter is a unique light beer batter that melts in your mouth! We guarantee to have the freshest fish available, including halibut, haddock, cod, prawns, scallops, and chicken.
Old Vic Fish & Chips is one of Victoria’s longest-lived restaurants. Located in a historic building at the heart of downtown Victoria and the traditional English décor is virtually identical to how it was 80 years ago.

History
Established in 1930.
The Old Vic is the oldest fish & fish shop in victoria.
Opened in 1930 it was first established as the old british fish & chips and changed owners and name in the fifties. It has always been a place for locals to come even now we get grandparents bring their grandchildren in to see us just as their grandparents did to them.
We have a different place to most in victoria as we have not changed the way we look since the fifties, just a lick of paint but the rest like our old wood booths, old english deco we love so do our locals.
Meet the Business Owner
Paul K.
Business Owner
The present owner, Yang Cao, learned to make British-style fish and chips while he was a student living in Northern England, along the Scottish border. At that time, he developed a passion for fish and chips that translates into the way he cooks. The batter is rich and crunchy, and the halibut nestled inside flakes nicely under the fork. The chips, too, are exactly as English chips should be; they are plump and crisp and just the right texture. It seems like a simple thing, but there is actually quite a variation in the way chips/fries are cooked around the world. These ones nail the English accent.
