ZAC.ZAC Japanese Curry House

This place is located in the back of the H Mart food court. Been here a couple of times. I’m an impatient person, so I usually try to come here before the lunch rush, even then there is a little wait.
They have a giant menu with pictures. Once you decide, make your order, and pay, you’ll be handed a number and wait for ring of the bell and have them hopefully shout out your number.
I’ve only had their curry dishes and they are super delicious. Their chicken karaage and croquettes are my personal favs to go with the curry. Easily one of the best Japanese style curry in downtown.
The service is friendly. They accept credit card. They do take out and put the curry in a separate container from the rest of your food. Easy 4 stars.
Only thing that prevents it from getting 5 stars is that I wish the prices would go down a tad, or maybe they should give more little sides. In my opinion their prices are more in line of a sit down restaurant as opposed to a food court. Nevertheless, I would still definitely recommend!

Japanese comfort food for the masses, located upstairs and the back of the H-​Mart food court at Seymour and Robson.
The katsu don is a flavourful, sweet and savoury dish, with lots of mushy eggy and oniony goodness. The cutlet is tasty. I don’t know of a another similar place in the area, so it’s a regular go-​to. The dishes are a good amount of food for lunch, and the prices are reasonable.

The best Japanese katsu don in town! I love their sauce and how they mixed the egg together with the sauce and cutlet! I wish they could use ceramic bowls instead of plastic bowls for dine in. Plastic is so not environmental friendly, just a waste and not a good choice for hot food. I’ve seen a few people leaving the same comment. Hopefully they will take the suggestion and I’ll change my rating to 5 stars.

Great service. I’m not sold by other things of the restaurant. I can make better curry than this place. The curry rou was so watery and has very little flavor. I had karage curry rice. Karage was not good either, mostly batter very little meat. Egg plant topping was soaked in old with no flavor. Worst of all, the food amount was not at all satisfying for the price I paid.
It is located in a food court with other Asian choices in it. I should have gone to the noodle place than this one. So disappointed

I went there with my brother and got the curry udon which was a ‘delice’. The chicken was very tender and noodles tasty. And the price is relatively cheap considering its location in the middle of downtown.

I had a piping hot delicious chicken curry udon here today — flavourful balanced umami curry broth throughout, fresh udon noodles with a slight chew to the texture, and delicately tender chunks of chicken. I rarely order either udon or Japanese curries, but this one was really very good.

Katsu Curry was yummy and tasty. It’s cheaper than what I had from Donburi-​Ya before. Curry came in a vegetable purée with small pieces of meat. I’m not sure if Katsu Curry comes out like that in other Japanese restaurants. Pork cutlet slices were crispy. Portion was small, but food was good.

After we enjoyed FIFA final we went to this restaurant in food court. There are restaurant from several country the part of Asia like Koria, Chaina and Japan. The dish I had was fine.

Exactly what you would expect of a food court curry house. Tasty, unpretentious food.

Surprizingly good curry and donburi, quality is pretty consistant. Great little take out spot. Fast service, good food.

I got the cheese curry with prawn tempura added on and it was delicious!
Price is pretty cheap, and the food is solid especially for a small kiosk within H-Mart’s food court.
Nothing to complain about really.

Had a craving for tonkotsu, but there nearby restaurants weren’t serving for dinner. Went to HMart Zac Zac because it’s reliably good food.
Enjoyed the dish — nice and crispy with good sauce. Also the potato salad here is to rave about. Only qualm is that cabbage didn’t feel very fresh.
Good value overall and like most of the food I’ve had here before.

This is in the food court within H-​Mart. Bustling but orderly, usually you can eat here for less than $ 10 in relative peace as everyone here is usually studying. Ordered a spicy beef curry at Zac-​Zac. The curry was flavourful but thin in texture, the portion was correct and I didn’t feel the meal was drowned in curry sauce. Beef was on the fatty side but I don’t consider this a bad thing. The green chili was great but didn’t really add to the overall flavour. At $ 9 I wasn’t very impressed by the dish — but that being said I think their signature dish is tonkatsu and I have yet to try that.

This place is upstairs inside the H-​Mart. Being from out of town, it took me awhile to sort of figure that out, but I’m glad we went. I try to make a point to get Japanese Curry in every city I visit if it is available at a restaurant, and time allows. It is my favorite dish, the ultimate comfort food. I did some research before coming to Vancouver and had singled out this place to try.
I split a katsu curry with my girlfriend. I was happy with the crispiness and flavor of the katsu. It wasn’t too fatty or too lean, which is rarely the case. The curry itself is where this place loses a star. It was just too watery. While that was disappointing, because a good Japanese curry needs to be thicker, the flavor was exactly what I was looking for. That’s why it maintains a 4 star rating.
The employees at the stand are friendly enough, but seem to possibly have limited English. Don’t come in with high expectations of something fancy, it’s in a cafeteria area of a grocery store, and you won’t be disappointed in the food itself. I imagine if I moved to Vancouver (make it easier for Americans to do this!) this place would become a lunch staple for me.

I know they’re a kiosk at a supermarket but come on, a simple curry katsu, Ebiten gets it right in under five minutes without the sour aftertaste.
Plus the 45 minutes I spent at Pacific Center bathroom an hour after the meal is not considered a fond memory.
Service is nice though, too bad their food is crap.

I was lured by some photos was posted from other viewer, BUT NOT the SAME…
some viewer point «cheap», i don’t think so. Basic $ 9.00 from the photo menu.
When I trip to Kyoto JAPAN, that FAT JUICY chicken is what I am looking for from Zac Zac, but I am «NOT» happy about the size of chicken and other protein.
Honest, size of meal is small, and miso soup is very light, sad and sad place for me will not coming here again.
This place is wedge to the corner of 2^nd floor, not good for many people. area is sharing with other food vender. so not good place eat over there.

Honestly, I’m very easy to satisfy and as long as I have a heaping of tasty hot food in front of me, I don’t complain. However, I found that ZAC ZAC’s katsu curry was not only mediocre, but it didn’t really taste like good quality tonkatsu at all!
First of all, I believe that the staff at Zac Zac are actually Korean. I may be wrong, but I’m pretty sure one of the staff members said «annyeonghaseyo» to me (I’m not Korean but I kind of look like it sometimes). Anyways, I’m sure there are tons of non-​Japanese people who can make a killer tonkatsu dish (eg. the Chinese chef at Saboten in Aberdeen Centre makes amazing authentic tonkatsu!) but I felt that the tonkatsu served to me at Zac Zac was quite… bad.
First of all, the deep fried pork cutlet seemed overcooked. The batter was a bit strange and my piece was cut up way too thinly. Furthermore, the meat itself is supposed to be nice and tender but unfortunately, my tonkatsu was very hard and chewy. This resulted in a lot of stringy pieces of meat stuck in between my teeth. The curry was your typical packaged instant Japanese curry while the rice was nice and fluffy. I guess I should try their non-​curry dishes next time if I ever come back…
PS. Their miso soup was clearly NOT Japanese miso soup… It was some sort of watery broth with a few pieces of seaweed…

I’ve never really cared for the sweetness of Japanese curry. Certainly it’s not something I crave. And the curry here comes in watery abundance.
The star here is the deep-​fried food — tonkatsu, karaage, korokke. So crispy and freshly made in the tiny little stall at the end of the H-​Mart food court. I feel a bit ripped off if I don’t get a curry bento, because the regular bentos just come with a smattering of rice and coleslaw and potato salad (not usually my favourite thing), and the servings aren’t as big as Hi-​Genki in Burnaby. But if a good bowl of Japanese comfort food (i.e. deep fried things on rice with sauce) is what you’re craving on Vancouver’s grey days, you could certainly do worse downtown.
And the cozy tables, all close together, and second-​floor view of the city do remind me of my Tokyo days.

Good curry at a good price. I tried the natto curry for lunch today; natto curry isn’t something I’ve tried before, so it sounded like a fun experiment.
I enjoyed the curry sauce and natto and rice, but the natto was served separate and didn’t seem to belong in this dish.

Japanese curry for most people is the stuff that comes from the box. No matter what brand you buy the flavor is consistently the same. So I was pleasantly surprised at how Zac Zac’s curry didn’t taste like Golden (or Vermont) curry. Definitely tasted like it was made from scratch and not from a box. Plus it still had that rich, comforting curry flavor to it but even better!
I went with the classic tonkatsu plate with spicy curry. Also added eggplant and a korokke patty to my meal. The meal was well portioned and comes with a ton of rice to make it filling. The pork chop had a good panko crust but the meat was bland and a little on the dry side. Thankfully I had plenty of curry sauce to spice it up.
