Stopped by for some take out on my way home, and it was indeed, A-OK. I quickly ordered a yam roll, a California roll, and a miso soup, and was promptly paid up and food was in my hands in less than 5 minutes — nice! It also helped that it was dead in there at 8.30 on a Tuesday(not an uncommon sight, from what I’ve noticed). The soup was good, nicely salty and hot. I was a tiny bit disappointed with the rolls initially, as the yam had 5 pieces thinly sliced, however both rolls were larger than usual. The yam roll had cucumber in it too, which was a nice touch, and added a nice ‘healthy’ element(shhhh!) The California roll was pretty tasty too. The seaweed was a bit chewy on both, but not badly so, although the rice did fall off when I tried to bite the yam roll in half. This is somewhere I’d stop for take out if I didn’t feel like walking farther — it’s just fine, but not impressive.

It’s definitely a favourite and the staff are awesome to me. Flame sushi and a few of the rolls are my usual. I ventured into veggie gyoza territory and I definitely enjoyed it.

The food is usually good here but they’ve hired a new waiter and he’s exceptional at his job. I usually order the avocado and mango roll with coconut. It’s not something you can get anywhere else really. They even have gluten free soy sauce for us with intolerances. Yummmyyyy!

Just an update: The Service is still good. What recently changed my mind about this establishment. Just as I finished my last bite of sushi, I looked up to see the sushi chef stuffing a piece of fish in his mouth with his hand, some fingers and all! He then proceeded to roll sushi not once but twice. I then felt nauseous and need to leave. I won’t be back

This used to be our go-to sushi spot on commercial drive… Until today. We came in and ordered our usual: the Vancouver king boat. We always ask to leave out the imitation crab meat and just have avocado in that part of the combo and they never had a problem with it. Today, however, the server took a moment before making up the additional price for our«change» to the menu item. We mentioned how it was just NOTADDING an item and she rudely began to argue with us. We gave up and agreed to the charge. Then the food came… The sashimi and nigiri fish all came in multi colours of unhealthy looking meat and something we couldn’t and wouldn’t put in our bodies. We were starving and so we had a few bites of the other pieces but gave up and decided this was the last time we would come here. There are a million sushi restaurants in the drive and we definitely do not recommend this one any longer.

Consistantly good! As a chef I love a place I can order delivery from and the food is better than I can do. With delivery, I will always call them to satiate my sushi craving. Great job guys!!!

Just good! Not fancy, won’t Knock your boots off, but it will leave you satisfied and the bill will leave you enough money to grab a scoop Of Gelato. My favourite is the Yam Roll, it has a slice of avocado in it too. Also the fitness roll is great too!

I know some of the other reviewers don’t like this place, but I’ve tried every other sushi place on Commercial Drive and this one is pretty decent. I’ve never been served rolls there that are falling apart, or fish that seems off. And I’ve been there enough times that a couple of the staff actually remember my order, which is surprising given the number of people I see in there. Yeah, there are a couple of better places on the Drive than this one, but they are more upscale and you pay more for basically the same food. In terms of price meeting quality, Volcano is fine by me and they’ve never let me down.

Absolutely disgusting! I have never had worse sushi. First of all, the owners are not Japanese but Chinese. They don’t know how to wrap rolls; half of mine were coming apart. The quality was very poor but the quantity was too much. They served very large and warm pieces of fish; the texture and taste were horrible. I had to throw away most of the food. I unfortunately had to order, in addition to the sushi, some other dishes so that I could get up to the min. $ 25 for free delivery. I’m not sure how the rest of the food is going to be, but it doesn’t look promising. I am so diffident and wary of the food that I really think I will have to get a parasite test done as I’m sure they didn’t prep the fish properly. I called and complained; the owner said he’d come back and refund my money. I gave him all the uneaten food to take away.

UPDATE1: Felt VERY sick after eating and now progressively getting worse. Very sore throat the next day and had bad stomach pains after eating. I feel like it was either the chicken or fish, as the chicken was only cooked just right and not like teriyaki, whereas the fish did have a funny taste but I thought it was just their sauce. — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — – Service overall: 4⁄5 Food overall: 2⁄5 I had: Dinner special(comes with miso soup/salad) — Chicken Teriyaki w/NO RICE&ONLYBEANSPROUTS. I requested extra vegetables but I feel like I received scraps. — Dynamite roll on brown rice. The rice was too moist and the shrimp not very crunchy. — Wild spicy sockeye sashimi. Was hoping for sauce on the side for this. Overall I was decent and will give another chance in the future. I made quite a lot of custom requests(no skin on chicken, substitute rice for extra vegetables, brown rice dynamite roll, all sauces on side). I was happy that the salad sauce and teriyaki sauce was on the side, although hoped the sashimi would have sauce on the side as well. Ordered for 6pm pick-up and food was done around 6:10pm. Will give the food another chance due to good service given my requests and being a first-time diner here.

My fave sushi in Vancouver! Their specialty rolls are huge and reasonable priced, fish has always been fresh, and service is super fast. This place is quite small and gets pretty busy around dinner time.

Really beautiful sushi rolls, the price is fair. The restaurant is small, but cozy. I recommend tempera and the special rolls there. The ramen is also good. You do not need to wait in lines here, that’s is another great thing about it!

One of my fave cheap sushi spots on the Drive. The Vancouver King Boat is loaded with sashimi, nigiri and rolls for $ 16! We also add on a fire roll for $ 4 and it’s the perfect amount for 2 people to share!

If you’re looking for sushi on the Drive, there are so many superior options. All of the rolls that I’ve had here are about a dollar more expensive than the same roll would be at almost any other place. My service has always been really poor here, from my food simply never showing up to being ignored for 20 minutes at a time. People are so into this place, and it makes me feel like I’m taking crazy pills. Or everybody else is taking crazy pills. Look, somebody is taking crazy pills. The fact of the matter is, sushi is pretty hard to mess up, and even when it’s a little more expensive it’s still reasonably priced, so if you go to Volcano I’m sure you won’t be miserable about it. But there are other places on the drive with the same quality at a lower price, or the same price and way higher quality.

Not bad. The sushi seems fresh and the sashimi even comes served on ice to keep it cool. The prawn tempura was pretty decent too. Weird things: — The server got up in between having bites of her own lunch to serve tables. — Not super friendly which is ok sometimes, I guess. — I had to ask for wasabi. — I wasn’t offered an option for wild or farmed salmon(it definitely wasn’t wild by default). — Beer wasn’t really cold. I don’t actually think the place is too bad, but there were enough little quirks that make it a 2* instead of 3.

I’m serious about the sushi boats here… and the fricken sashimi is huge! They are warm and welcoming and help you out with any food allergies you may have. Try them out if you’re in the area and are trying to choose a sushi spot out of the kabillion that the Drive has to offer. Prices are fair. You probably won’t be anywhere near disappointment picking Volcano.

My boyfriend and I went here tonight and everything was delicious. We love how all the specialty rolls are the same price. Great selection on specialty rolls. Quick service. We ordered the Red Dragon Roll, Tuna Tataki Salad(highly recommended) and their special roll. All tasted very fresh and saucy, just the way we like it. I didn’t give them a 5 star because we were served water instead of tea. I’m a huge tea drinker and usually at Japanese restaurants we are served tea or get to choose between tea and water. Very minor detail. We will definitely be going back!

I came here with a girlfriend of mine to shoot some steam about each other’s work situation and of course connect on other levels(sharing our most recent travel stories with each other). The first thing I noticed when I looked at the menu was that there was a huge selection of items. It was honestly overwhelming, however, stuck to what I know… sort of. I had the avocado mango coconut roll on brown rice for less than $ 7 with tax. What kinda irked me is that they charge you an extra 50 cents for brown rice even though there isn’t a lot of brown rice used and secondly brown rice costs the same as white rice. Our service was actually decent. At the time we were the only ones in the eatery. We probably extended our stay more than we should’ve but they seemed semi okay with it. My girlfriend and I had a lot to catch up on.

After noticing that the previous sushi joint here folded, it was time to give this place a try. Parking is available on the side streets. The place has been given a new paint job and bar décor from the previous owners. Paper lanterns inside as well to make things just a bit more Asian. Uni sushi — special mention. The pieces are HUGE. Largest I’ve ever had in my life. Fresh too. Totally worth the $ 3 a piece. Salmon sushi — decent portion and quality, but farmed. Toro sushi — melted in my mouth. Another special mention. Chopped scallop roll — covered in sesame seeds. Nice pieces, no fishy taste. BC roll — served with tobiko on top. Fresh avocado slices inside. They were kind enough to throw in a dessert on the house. Some kind of cold coconut pudding(the Asian kind). This was surprisingly good too. Little mango chunks on top, and this curious-looking pink(I suspect they used rose cordial) cream on top. Yum. I will definitely be back. Recommended.
