I have been going here for about 2 years with a friend of mine that lives near Commercial and Broadway. It has always been consistently good quality for a very good price. I have ordered from the lunch special menu 2 rolls(usually yam roll and sweet potato roll) with salad and miso soup for $ 6.50. Also the yam tempura, tuna nigiri, tamago nigiri were all very good. Other restaurants will charge at least 50% or more and many times with less quality.

Another dime and dozen sushi place along Commercial Drive. Small but typical of many of these sushi places, run by a nice Chinese couple, good service. Generally it’s been quiet the last few times here. Ordered the Fresh seafood roll: salmon & tuna sashimi, chopped scallop and artificial crabmeat, with seaweed on the outer – for some reason, not into that, so was just ok. But their Flying dragon roll, avocado, cooked unagi eel, w/deep fried tempura, that’s recommended. Price is def cheap for the huge portions. I’ll still come back for convenience sake and peace of quiet while i’m working.

Two rolls of sushi for $ 5.50? Yes, please! This place is close to the gym that I go to, but I was first lured by it because of their scrolling eight-year anniversary sign. Then I saw all the specials that they had. Every day, they have the $ 5.50 special. For a dollar more you also get rice, soup and salad. Oh, and then there’s the $ 4.99 teriyaki bowl special. It’s a small but cute little place, run by a friendly couple. I went after going to the gym so was by myself for the entire time, which was a little awkward. But I loved my rolls — I got the yam tempura and the salmon maki. All the rolls are six pieces each, which was impressive for how cheap they were. Their regular menu is quite extensive and if I wasn’t looking for something simple, fast and cheap, I would’ve considered other items on the menu. Oh well, guess that means I’ll just have to go again.

I came back to this place after about a year’s absence, and was surprised and delighted to find a new menu with lots of fascinating chef’s specials, including rolls with mango and macadamia nuts in them… oooooh! Creative and very, very tasty. Last time I’d been there, the food was just adequate, and they only had farmed salmon, so I eventually gave up on them and started going to Sake Maki down the road. But Isshen has obviously done some big changes since then and finally have gotten on board with the wild salmon, so I’ll be going back more often again and exploring some of the new options!

Definitely some renos in order but not a bad little place. They have numerous special sushi rolls that are quite large and not a bad deal for sure. I went last week and although not the best service, it had a quaint, family-run style to it. No miso with my combo??? .oh well, I guess it wasn’t exactly fast food chinese-style sushi either. As a returning commercial drive resident recently, I will definitely go back for take out.

This is a cute little sushi restaurant. I believe it is family run. The sushi is great! The place is relatively clean. However they could do some renovations.
