I am torn between 2 or 4 stars here. The food is excellent, the coffee is good, so definitely at least 4 stars for the quality. But the service. It makes me doubt if I should ever return although I live around the corner. The owner of the restaurant is pretty rude, both to customers(if she does not think the customer is somewhat useful to her), and especially to her stuff. You can definitely feel the pressure and tension in the air, and no wonder there’s always ‘apply within for jobs’ sign on the door.

Amazing quality. The prices are higher but for a reason. The staff is as nice as they should be and soon your best friend when they know your a local. I always enjoy myself and that’s all that matters. Did I mention the food is amazing and clearly made with love and care.

Love this amazing coffee shop bakery on Yew street! The staff is super friendly and Dawn keeps spoiling me with yummy treats. Dogs also get treats here! Woof woof. Coffee is addictive, I highly recommend this joint if you’re around kits beach!

Why would anyone go here? It has no internet. It’s menu is limited. And it’s just down the hill, one block away, from the much more popular Café Zen.(Perhaps the line to get into Café Zen was too long?) But… It does have a good selection of baked goods, coffee is okay, and there is nice outdoor seating. For me, I like to read my newspaper(online) while having my morning coffee. The lack of wifi surprises me as most coffee shops and restaurants have it these days. I thought I’d try Viva but it’s back to Café Zen for me.

Love the friendly service… mainly a coffee pick up place by me, but appreciate the personalized service, such as remembering names. Their paninis are yummy, especially the hamburger one(when it is available). Breakfast burrito/wrap is a solid start to your day too. Gets a bit busy with not much space to hang out, but the beach is near so take it to go!

The price for breakfast is a little too much. But like the environment there, nice and comfortable.

Dropped in and it definitely was very over priced for what it is. Coffee and scone prices are OK, but for breakfast or a sandwich the place is just a rip off. Thank goodness there are so many choices available. Please note that almost every review mentions the prices negatively.

Good coffee, great baked goods, unbelievably friendly customer service. There’s a reason it’s busy.

Excellent service, very friendly staff. Very good latte. Freshly baked croissants, cookies that are terrific. Has a great neighbour coffee shop feel.

Love supporting well run independent businesses, and this is one of them. Far superior products over the big chain shop nearby, from the coffees to the baking, which i was told is all done in house. Add to that the friendly service and a stones throw from the beach(and the dog treats for my dog) and I quickly became one of the regulars greeted by name each visit. Congratulations from this hospitality insider on a job well done.

Stopped by this morning on our weekly coffee date, great and I mean great chai latte and iced latte. Didn’t try the baked goods but they looked very delicious and all of the staff were friendly and helpful. We are supporting our neighbourhood small businesses and will definitely be back.

VIVA! The people here are super friendly and they know a lot of their customers by name and make everyone feel at ease. Their coffee is simple and delicious(Im not sure what beans they’re serving now, but I had a coffee there last week and it was delish). They have a wide variety of baked goods and sandwiches that are a little pricy but usually worth it. Also, if you have time, their patio is nice for kitsilano people watching in the summer. The one thing that Im not crazy about is the breakfast burrito in which they use a potato salad with mayo in it., it is always a bit cold and out of place. Hashbrowns would be better. Just sayin, because I love my breakfast burritos. Anyways, it’s a good place to stop in to before or after a stroll on the beach.

Grat service here… Everyone is super friendly and welcoming. Their patio is great for people watching in the summer, and the location can’t be beat! I come here for food and coffee every once in a while, and both are fantastic. The reason I’m giving 4 stars and not 5 is because in the past few months they have changed their sandwiches. They used to be quite large, more than enough to fill me up! Now, the bread is a lot smaller, and while still tasty, I still leave hungry. If they brought back the bread they used to use I would happily give this place 5 stars!

I love Viva! It’s right by kits beach. I always feel like I’m in a nice holiday when I sit in the lovely patio outside, under the cherry blossoms. Great freshly baked pastries and 49th parallel coffee. I love the paninis. For brunch on the weekend, try the Brie French toast. It is sinfully good. The service is outstanding. This staff are very friendly and helpful. The owner, Dinvolved actively involved in running the show. Viva is outstanding! A great place to stop by when in Kitsilano.

I’ve never eaten anything here except the scones and muffins and of course the coffee. I’m a Starbucks coffee fan but you can’t beat the muffins and scones here. They tend to be smaller than a lot of coffee places but they are delicious — every time. Try the cornbread muffin for a superb taste /texture treat. I’ve always found the staff very friendly and accommodating so I do drop in every once in a while to pick up a scone for a Saturday or Sunday treat with coffee once I get home from a walk along the beach. The place is a bit small and I’m not the type to sit in a crowded(packed) coffee shop but it has a lot of obviously loyal and regular customers with everyone treated as if they were long lost friends.

This place is a heart breaker. They have such a great location and the owners and staff and friendly and helpful. Some of the food is great(healthy scone, banana-chocolate muffin) and the coffee is pretty decent. But the quality is variable. Some of the sandwiches are gross and often come off the grill undercooked on the inside and crispy on the outside. The quiche is also dodgy. Ten years ago this place was acceptable. Nowadays, with increased competition, it’s just not good enough. Top tip: Grab a healthy scone and a coffee and head to the beach for a morning stroll.

I’ve always been crazy for their baked goods here but had no idea that they make them on the premises. The kitchen is above the storefront. This Sunday a couple of friends texted that they were there so I met them for coffee and a chat. I opted for the healthy scone(as it’s called). Loved it! Chock full of grains and seeds with a touch of fennel perhaps. It’s a meal and reminds me of the scones I loved at a now closed coffee shop in Yaletown. The carrot zucchini muffin is also delicious. Take your dog as they have dog treats and a water bowl outside. Expect it to be busy on the weekends!

I’ve walked past this place a hundred times on my way to my favourite coffee bar(Momento on 4th.). But this time my tired 16 year old dog wasn’t up for a long walk so I just dropped in an hour ago. I should have been worried when they didn’t know what a traditional cappuccino was but I persevered and explained I wanted a lot less milk, not so much froth and two shots.(can’t stand Starbucks style coffee with a homeopathic dose of coffee and a foam layer good only for putting out aircraft fires). So after a proud boast they could do it anyway a customer wanted he produced a 12 oz(after I specifically said«no those cups are too big) with inches of cloying milk froth only froth and terrible coffee lurking so far below but it would have taken the Russian scientists currently drilling to Lake Vostock in the antarctic to reach it. Oh yes and I had a chocolate chip cookie. No actual chocolate flavour. Just lots of sugar with brown pieces playing the part of chocolate who sadly couldn’t make the party. This awful coffee and cookie cost me $ 8! If you genuinely love good coffee, pick up your dog and carry his old bones somewhere else.

Based on the high ratings of this place I could be a bit crazy, but I just had the worst breakfast burrito ever here. It was mostly potato and it tasted like potato salad. The staff was very friendly, but when the one girl asked how my burrito was I said«It’s OK. There’s lots of potato and hardly any egg though». To which she replied«only ok?!» as if there were something wrong with my honesty, «it’s my favorite!» she continued on her way without asking me why I didn’t like it. Oh, the salsa was pathetic also. Just terrible and dry. Will never be back(for breakfast anyway).

Atmosphere: Very tiny, a few bar stools to sit and enjoy something. Not a good place to dwell, however, good for a quick bite. For some messed up reason, some yuppy kitts mom brought her stroller in, those fully pimped out ones, to a narrow restaurant which annoyed me taking up literally almost half the isle. The dogs outside were so cute. Service: Was awesome and with a smile. The person at the cash til smiled and made conversation with me and turned a rainy day into a sunny day… okay maybe that is going a bit too far, however, it was still great. Price: Very reasonable for the area. Pricey, however, at 9.95 for the sandwich, it was a decent price. Food: I ordered the strawberry brie French toast which was more like a strawberry brie sandwhich. Still good. There wasn’t enough strawberry to brie ratio and since brie is a strong cheese to begin with, I can understand why it would be hard to balance out flavors accordingly. They should substitute the strawberries for apples marinated in brown sugar and cinnamon. It tastes heavenly and at the same time, it tasted like my sister stuffed my strawberry shortcake doll into a smelly sock. It was a hit and miss on emotions to be honest.
