wow sounded like the old ownership was taking the place down with it lol maybe Kenneth N. is right because the service i got was unreal, i just found myself on Broadway for whatever reason after an interesting evening at Kits pool(it started to rain just literally out of nowhere!!!) anyway i was hungry as all hell, so i stopped by Veras and it was right near closing i didn’t know the hours, so it was take out only and of course my stomach said fine lol and it was good service no rush or anything everybody seemed pretty cool and the burger was top notch on top of that! definitely 1 of the best(i ordered the canuck) although i still think Spitz on Main st and in Whistler is better Veras not far behind!

Wandered in here looking for a quick weekday dinner, and decided to give Vera’s a chance. Prices were all a bit high, but not bad for the taste! They also have some decent daily specials on burgers, beers, etc. Would definitely come again.

Was okay. Not the best burger but not the worst. They claim to have the best burgers in Vancouver but 5 Guys is much better.

New ownership since the summer, and the customer service shows. More smiles. If you call ahead for pickup, ask if their parking spot is available in the back. Though it’s a bit of a trek to get up the high stairs and go through the kitchen, at least it’s free, and hard to find parking with no stopping during rush hours on Broadway of course. Their chocolate milkshakes are the best.

I used to meet friends here on Thursday evenings for a meal. Their burgers are mostly $ 10 and below, so price-wise it’s above average for Vancouver. Burgers have always been tasty, fries so-so. They have limited seating and a couple TVs, but ambiance is not one of their strengths at this location. Visited about 18 months ago to watch a Canucks game and had a bad experience. Found a hair in my burger when I was almost finished — not mine. Took it up to the counter, showed the staff, and he was quite disinterested. Did not offer to refund or make any amends. Have subsequently sent a letter and an email to Vera’s, and predictably, no response. As much as I’ve enjoyed their burgers in the past, I will not be returning.

I don’t wanna give them any stars. This place is garbage. I should know, I used to work here. My boss was some kid who’s parents gave him enough money to earn him the title of «franchise owner». «yo I’m thinking of buying a Pizza Hut. Like my tattoo?» –actual quote Every suggestion to improve service was shot down. When we got complaints it was my fault. I was frequently left to cook and serve lunch rushes by myself. Actually I was left by myself for hours. Pest control was too expensive apparently as well. I felt really bad for the customers. Every week he would fire half the staff because they cost him too much to pay or weren’t happy with the way things were run. He would constantly under pay me and get mad when I asked for the right amount. One time he gave me $ 50 cash and said«here, see I’m a good boss. I’m nice» I walked out and when he refused to acknowledge 25 hours of work. the real owners of the franchise didn’t seem to give a shit about anything either! No one did! This is the worst place I’ve ever worked for. The food is worse than you think! I can’t tell you how happy I was to see the windows boarded up and a sign on the door saying ‘under new management’. I’d hold my breath but seeing as they hired someone with no experience to manage it in the first place, I wonder what other corners they’d cut. PS I used my old Veras shirt to light a fire while camping. The grease must’ve had something to do with because man those shirts are flammable.

I was very disappointed with Vera’s Burger Shack. Being that there was no line, I was able to walk up straight to the corner. I told the attendant that this was my first time here, ignoring her out of control, uncovered frizzy hair, I proceeded to ask her some questions about the different types of burgers. Following the employee’s suggestion, I ordered the Stinger, a single patty, jalapeño bottle caps and cheddar burger, the onion rings and a drink. The total was over $ 18! Yikes! While I was ordering, I had pulled out by wallet and credit card. It was then I was informed that this was a cash only establishment. So I ran to the ATM down the street and got a twenty. Giving the 20 to the attendant, she now tells me that they do not have change for a 20! What! My response was logical and controlled, «Don’t you think a cash only business should have cash? It is 1pm, this is prime lunch crowd hour. The most poplar dispensed ATM bills are $ 20’s. Why aren’t you prepped?» The girl ignored my questions, as well as my logic promising me my change, «I will get you your change sir. Just give me a few minutes.» «okay,» what else could be said; «May I have my cup for my drink?» She confidently responded, «Oh, our soda machine is broke, you can have your choice of bottled drinks.» I will skip over that conversation. If I had know the soda machine was broken, I would not have ordered a drink. I had been walking all across Vancouver, knew I was going to need more than just 16 oz to hush my thirst. The attended was alone, the same person who took my order also cooked my burger. Being lunch time, she was busy moving back and forth, taking orders and prepping orders. I listened while with each person’s order, she told them that she did not have change, the size of the bill did not matter. My burger was okay, I was disappointed to only have two soggy jalapeño bottle caps on my burger. After I finished eating and cleaned up my area, I waited in line again to ask for my change. You would have thought I was robbing her! She responded with such shock and bewilderment, «What money?!» «The $ 1.60 that you owe me, the $ 2.86 that you owe that couple and whatever amount you owe him!» pointing to the older man behind me who was chucking. When she saw that everyone was watching, she got very irritated, plucked up her tip jar and pulled out a loony and some change, slipping the money on the counter she told me to take my money. I calmly counted the money, it was .04 cents short. I knew at this point that my only civil response should be thank you, but then then the devil got my tongue and I asked for a another nickel.

Would definitely agree with the negative comments posted for this Vera’s location. Walked in at 7pm on a Sunday, place was empty(maybe not that rare given it’s a Sunday). Looked like the place needed a good clean. They were out of onion rings, so ordered poutine and a $ 9 chicken burger. Didn’t accept debit card, cash only. When order was ready, the cook had to get change from another store… got home and split the meal with my husband, and we both vowed to never go to this location again. Poutine was decent, but the chicken burger was anemic at best. Please do yourself a favour and go somewhere else in this neighbourhood(Memphis Blues), or another Vera’s location. I hope they save this otherwise popular chain by closing this location as I’m sure their reputation is being damaged.

Don’t go here, please. Empty store, ordered takeout and arrived 10 mins later. Told it would take another 15, and no debit or credit. Cough, money laundering tax evasion, cough. Soda fountain out of order, no condiments in the store(didn’t even have lidded containers for ketchup). Was told under new management for last year and half, and that’s why it hasn’t been kept up. Kitchen in a dirty state, and French fries were gross, need to change fryer oil. Could be a money laundering scheme, seriously. Will be sending a letter to Vera’s. What a joke!

I love hamburgers. If not exactly an elegant food, it is at least incredibly easy to make a tasty and exciting meal out of a simple hamburger. That’s why an experience like the one I had at this restaurant is so baffling. One iota of effort from the cook could have made this an enjoyable culinary experience, at least on the palate. But there was none made. Even more surprising is that this is a chain restaurant… where you would expect at least some level of consistent quality of service and product at all locations(the kits location of Vera’s comes to mind; I’ve had fantastic burgers there on numerous occasions), but no. When I walked into this place, the female cook was sitting on the counter-top in the kitchen. No one else was there. The floor was exceedingly greasy, the lighting was dim. She took my order. I ordered a regular burger with all the standard toppings. She couldn’t change a twenty dollar bill. Some guy who came in after me went behind the counter, took my twenty for me and left to make change. He came back ten minutes later. I guess he works there too? Neither wore any kind of clothing that would identify them as employees. The burger was handed to me at my table in silence. Half-wrapped in foil and tossed onto a greasy unclean tabletop. I don’t know how, despite the fact that I ordered every topping they had, the burger still managed to be a dry tasteless grease ball. Banana peppers? How about half a pepper ring driven into a dry half of a greased up bun? Hot sauce, Vera’s sauce? Couldn’t even come close to tasting anything on this burger except maybe mustard. I couldn’t finish even two bites, such a waste. It is so easy to get simple things like a hamburger or diner service right. It always boggles the mind when people like this just don’t do it, or seemingly don’t even try to do it right. This place is hopeless and I would hope Vera’s sorts it out, as it’s pretty much soured me on the whole chain.

So I walked in, first thing they mentioned their debit was down, no issue I just ran to the bank to get cash. I ordered my meal and the till pops open… and there is no cash so he has to run to the bank to get change… it was 1pm you think he would’ve had a float by that time… As I was sitting there I started to read others reviews on this particular location and I started to immediately regret my decision. The lady«cooking» the food and I use that lightly was sitting on the counter talking on the phone, nothing sanitary about that, and I started to look around and the place is in major need a repair(fridge with an out of order sign, soft drinks not working, and numerous lights out). Once the food was ready to go I asked for Ketchup(staple in any burger joint) and they were out of packets along with salt, pepper, and vinegar the only things you could take with you were a straw and a top for your drink. I have to stay this was the worst Vera’s burgers I have ever been to and the quality of the food was awful. ***AVOIDTHISPLACEANDGOTOTHEONEINKITS!!!***

I’ve been here a few times but I don’t think I’ll be going back, at least not to this location. The first time I ordered onion rings, they were so greasy I had to send them back. They gave me a $ 5 off coupon so I tried it again. This time the fryer was down so I just had a burger. It was dry and tasteless.

I quite enjoy a Vera Burger. Their other locations, Main Street in particular, dish up some of the best burgers in the city. Sadly this location does not. My partner and I visited this location after spending all day doing a move-out clean of our apartment. We were hungry so specifically sought out Vera’s. The fries and onion rings were pretty good. Not best ever, but we didn’t leave any. The burgers were a major disappointment. The patties were very small and tasteless, the topping bland and the bun stale. There was nothing to like about either burger. We walked out feeling about as hungry as when we walked in. In fact, such was the inadequacy of the«meal» we went home but were cooking another dinner 20 minutes later(no, we’re not gluttons. This meal was just useless). To be honest, you’re better off walking across the street to McDonald’s than going to this location.

Not what I expected. The burger was ok, but I was expecting this great meat, and it was kind of tasteless. The fried were the best part. The place is kind of dirty and dark. I was the only costumer so all the staff was at the back just chatting.

Always liked Vera’s but this location is dreadful; hot dog bun was stale, they were out of both relish and vinegar, and the level of cleanliness marginal. I think the hot dog was still partly frozen, although it had the usual good flavor.

Everything is all made to order, so even though«Vera’s» is considered fast food it did take time to cook the patty and deep fry the frozen french fries. I was seated in a booth waiting and was pleasantly surprised that the girl who was helping me earlier brought my take out to me as soon as it was done. Majority of the other fast food establishments would just shout from the front that it was ready, and I would have to go up to retrieve it. This really impressed me as a customer. I got it all to go. By the time I got back to my office to unwrap it for pictures, the sauces in my burger had pooled to the bottom and was dripping out the aluminum coloured wrapping. I do not remember the best burger I have ever had, But this was not it. It was as I expected: thick and better seasoned then anything I could have gotten from a «Burger King» or «Wendy’s». But I did not get that juicy burger bite that I truly craved. I wanted more umph from my first bite. Their take out menu says their burgers are made to order and therefore a little pink in the middle. Mine was 100% fully cooked(as ground beef burgers should be) but to the point it was dry and the edges chunky and chewy. I got all the condiments possible, which ‘Vera’s” calls«The Works». I was excited and impressed over all the options available: jalapenos, BBQ sauce, pickles, mayo, two kinds of mustard, their special house sauce, etc;. So with everything but the kitchen sink, my burger was not lacking in flavour. The fries were of a thicker cut and not just seasoned with salt. It is as good as they were ever going to be out of a frozen bag. Comparatively to other fast food joints they were a cut above the rest. After i devoured my burger and handed my fries to my coworker, I felt sick. It may have been because I ate too quickly or because of all the grease in my meal. If this has happened to you after eating fast food, it is because they have not removed all the grease from the stoves. This made me wonder. When was the last time they cleaned out the grease trap from their stoves? When you have franchises like this, you tend to think are all the standards for quality and cleanliness really being looked after?

it is NOT a gourmet burger place. Ive given it a few chances b/c its in my hood. –burgers are ok i guess, not gournet. –people working there seem like seem like they hate it and hate burgers. –restaurant is never quite clean. –the servings of fires are like not even a handful and they are never fresh. –considering the attitude of the workers i cringe to thing what is going on in the back.

I work super close to this Vera’s but hadn’t tried it out till recently and I’m happy to report that it lives up to the hype. The burger patties are succulent and moist, the toppings are flavorsome, the only portion that I draw a blank on are the buns. I think they were OK though. The fries were fresh and tasty, they run a daily combo special for $ 10 I think, really good value. I’ll definitely be back when I’m craving a burger.

Nothing beats a fresh burger. That said, Vera’s is a sad example of a burger franchise. I got a burger and fries with onion rings to split with my friend expecting, well, beef. Instead, what I got was a tasteless patty of beef that is very similar to what you would get at A&W or your local fast food franchise. Maybe only a nary step above that. If I am willing to pay premium price for a hamburger, then why would I get a substandard product? Do they really think we cannot tell whether a hamburger is fresh or not? Vera’s is simply not worth it. Would never go back.

This company certainly tops everyone when it comes to slogans: «You can’t beat Vera’s Meat.» The problem, is you can. There’s a reason why this place only gets two stars and is not on my list of places I love to eat. At one point, they may have been pretty darn good. That’s what urban lore seems to imply, anyway. From what I understand, they started with one location. And at that point, it probably did live up to its billing. But there are several outlets around the Lower Mainland now, and that means even though the burgers are«hand-made» there is an institutional quality to the food at Vera’s that is almost a necessary evil when you want to maintain consistency across the chain. Of course, that’s not always the case — Fat Burgers is a chain and their burgers far outstrip Vera’s in just about every category. I might even go so far as to say I would choose a Wendy’s or Harvey’s burger over Vera’s, based on what I had at the location at Broadway and Granville. Again, the burgers at Vera’s are not bad, better than most of the other chain fast-food burger places — but not at the top of my list. Or as Sean Connery says in «The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen,»(he plays Allan Quartermain: «I’m waiting to be impressed.» Do love the slogan, though.
