Sushi Nanaimo is my solid Friday night go to. We usually get take out as this place can get super crowded! I would highly recommend the Awesome Roll with sweet potato fries or the Red Dynamite roll. Either way you can’t really go wrong, everything comes out super fresh and super tasty!

I loved it! The waitress gave us a great recommendation on which sushi roll to try. The sashimi was delicious. Tasted fresh. Service is awesome! What else could I ask for?

I feel like Korean owned sushi joints far outnumber any one else in the city nowadays. Not like there is anything wrong with that, btw. Normally dine-in but decided on take-out this time. Called in ahead of time and was told it would take 20 minutes. Left them ample time to prep my order and strolled in at 30 minutes. Place was packed on a week night(per usual) and sushi was ready along with 6 other orders on the table.(all good signs!) Ordered 5 different types of rolls and mixed tempura. Happy to report that the tempura was still crunchy even after 15 minutes of bringing the grub home!

One of my favourite sushi places down here in Vancouver. I always stop by whenever I’m in the Nanaimo area and get the spicy salmon combo. Definitely a must try if you’re really into salmon sashimi. If you get any of the combos before 4 pm you get a soup and salad along with your meal so that’s a nice plus too. The portion sizes are pretty good but they used to be bigger.

Been here numerous times, usually waiting for ½hr at peak times. Spicy salmon sashimi was fresh and delicious sauce. Yaki Soba was a good size portion for two people to share. Servers were always there when you wanted something and tea was topped up frequently.

The food can taste good but they are not clean at all. They have had a constant run of poor inspection reports. I started checking these when a friend found hair in his sushi on two separate occasions. Highlights from their last inspection(with one critical issue still outstanding): «Employees are not washing hands as often as is necessary to prevent contamination of food.» «Food is not stored in suitable containers. Food is not properly covered and protected from contamination. Food is not stored off of floor.» DON’T EATHERE, there are plenty of sushi restaurants that understand how to maintain a clean restaurant. That said, they’re keeping it cleaner than they were last year, but that isn’t saying much. EDIT: My link doesn’t appear to be sticking, search [h][t][t][p][s][:][/][/] to see the reports for yourself.

Fave place for CHEAPO sushi! Sushi Nanaimo and Sushi California are my favourites for budget friendly sushi! The portion sizes are always huge, and everything always tastes fresh because of the high turnover rate! ORDERTHEKINGKATSU! So yummy. The rolls can be a bit messy, but they taste awesome! Korean run establishment that’s oh so easy on your wallet. I’m a fan!!!

I came here with some friends as one of them had recently come back into town for a visit. It was a Thursday night around 7pm and we waited about 15 – 20 minutes for a table. The menu is similar to that of the Sushi Garden/Sushi Town/Sushi California variety(read: large portions, good prices) and the food was exactly the same. Service is quick, very quick. The waitress was pretty much yelling out our orders in real time to the kitchen staff at the bar while we were ordering. Efficient I guess? The food arrived freakishly fast too, I’d say within 5 minutes. The restaurant isn’t huge so I guess they want to make the most out of customer turn-over. We ordered a bunch of sushi and food items to share. As mentioned earlier, the food is nearly the same as other popular Korean-run sushi restaurants in the city. No complaints, everything was good. Definitely a good option for take-out. Will come again!

Just one of the typical Korean owned Japanese restaurant. Their menu is same as Sushi Garden and I’m not sure if it’s owned by the same person. Service was fast. The taste was good but didn’t really stand out. It reminded me of food from Sushi Garden and Sushi California. I got Sashimi and Sushi combo for $ 8.95. Portion was big enough for one person. Didn’t know the combo came with salad and miso soup during lunch. That was good to know. Salad was fresh and delicious. It was quite satisfying. However I wouldn’t go down to Hastings for sushi since I can find sushi places much closer within my vicinity. Anyways I don’t mind giving 4 stars. I love how their combo comes with salad and soup.

Last Saturday my friends and I visited Sushi Nanaimo in Vancouver which is located on Nanaimo and East Hastings Street. The place was fully packed when we arrived there around 7pm. Their food was pretty much the same as Sushi Garden and Sushi California which are all owned by Koreans. Wouldn’t be an option for someone looking for authentic Japanese, but maybe good place for having decent sushi at affordable prices and generous portions. After a few minutes we ordered, our rolls started coming even though the restaurant seemed really busy. Their service was so fast so that we started thinking their rolls might be pre-made. Hope not, but the rolls actually came out before our sashimi and nigiri. Anyways back to our first dish, Nanaimo Roll($ 6.5) consisted of spicy tuna, cucumbers inside, topped with sweet potato flakes, drizzled with spicy mayo and unagi sauce. It was a bit spicy but not too much. The tempura bits gave a nice crunchy texture. Everyone seemed to love this roll the best(2.5÷5.0). Red Roll($ 5.95) had chopped scallop, cucumbers and topped with spicy salmon. Pretty simple but not plain taste(3.0÷5.0). Sushi Nanaimo’s Awesome Roll($ 6.95) is not different from any other Korean-owned sushi restaurants. It’s a California Roll wrapped with baked salmon, masago and lots of yam fries on top. Same as other rolls, they used spicy mayo and unagi sauce(3.0÷5.0). Dragon Roll($ 7.95) was my favourite. Sorry for the poor quality picture, but the roll looked way better and appetizing. Pretty much a California Roll wrapped with avocado and huge chunks of unagi(BBQ Eel), and topped with bonito, tobiko, spicy mayo & unagi sauce(3.5÷5.0). Yum! Salmon Sashimi($ 8.95) came out really late when we almost finished all the rolls above. Although salmon looked a bit mushy from its appearance, it was pretty fresh and tasty. But I thought it needs better sashimi cutting skills still(3.0÷5.0). I usually don’t like to order Spicy Salmon Sashimi($ 9.95) as I can’t tell how fresh the sashimi because of the strong spicy sauce. But some of my friends wanted to try so we got it. The sauce was spicier than I expected, but still good. Good to have a few pieces while eating huge chunks of sushi rolls(3.0÷5.0). It took a long time to get our nigiri sushi. 10 pcs Toro Nigiri($ 1.30), 2 pcs Hamachi Nigiri($ 2.00) and 1 pc Tobiko with Quail Egg Nigiri($ 1.60). As I mentioned earlier, they need better sashimi knife skills… The toro looked really poor :(. Also, each piece had too much sushi rice which was a bit gluey and gummy. Hamachi didn’t have that distinct burgundy colour on the outside. The taste was below average(1.0÷5.0). Six of us were pretty full and the bill costed only $ 75.86. Really cheap sushi! PROS — One of the cheapest sushi in town — Decent quality rolls — Food comes fast CONS — They don’t serve alcohol — Slippery floor. My friend and I almost fell — Sushi quality needs to be improved RATING Food 3.0÷5.0 Ambience 2.5÷5.0 Service 3.5÷5.0 Price $ Address: 350 Nanaimo Street, Vancouver Phone number: 604−876−9200 Hours of Operation: Monday to Sunday 11am to 10pm

I had to get a quick lunch during a couple hour break between my friend’s wedding ceremony and reception yesterday, and since I’m on my sushi craze lately, we decided to stop by and grab some take out on the way. I ordered 4 chopped scallop nigiri and my boyfriend got a spicy tuna roll. First of all, the price can’t be beat. $ 8.56 for our take out order. Yes, really. The price alone takes the cake for me. $ 1.30 per nigiri compared to $ 2.25-$ 2.95 a piece from other places I’ve been to recently is a very nice change, plus the amount of scallop per nigiri was also very generous. It was tasty and finally satisfied my chopped scallop craving. The spicy tuna roll was pretty big and there was quite a bit of tuna. Everything tasted pretty good.

I was recommended by my girlfriends to go to Sushi Nanaimo and definitely a great place for simple, quick and decently priced sushi. It’s a casual, fun and busy place. The servers call out the orders to the chef, so it’s not the most quiet place but that’s the culture of the restaurant and makes it fun. The turn around time is relatively quick, the food is ordered and delivered very promptly. With that being said, tables are always turning at this busy location. I really enjoy all the rolls and sashimi, everything is made fresh and nicely presented. The only thing I would suggest is for the menu’s to have description of what is in some of the specialty rolls. As every time, my bf and I go, we have to ask the server what is in a particular roll. It would be easier if we could just read the description and decide for ourselves. My favourite go-to place for guarantee fresh and delicious sushi!

Ordered the maki tray for 2 and this cost just under $ 20 for a very filling meal(for 2). The sushi was done quickly, and quite messy, so it definitely did not«look good». The rolls were uneven, things were sticking out everywhere. However, the avocado was fresh and the rolls tasted ok. This is a great place to go if you want cheap sushi that is on par with AYCE sushi but without having to eat until you fall over. For parking, we parked on a nearby street(free) where there is a neighbourhood book exchange.

I love their Spicy Salmon Sashimi. Very fresh and tasty. As well their rolls, very generous in portions. If you dine in before 4 and order a combo you get free miso soup and salad with it. As well every day, they have a daily special but the discounts are not that great on the daily special it ranges from 50 cents to $ 1. The staffs are sometimes lost, probably because too many people and lack of experience. The best thing is that you can substitute an item in their combo and pay the difference. However, recently I found their portion got a little bit small then what it used to be 1 year ago. but over all still good value.

Great Sushi Rolls here!!! Service is decent but let’s be realistic customers do not come to sushi restaurants in Vancouver for outstanding customer service. The chefs here do a good job at putting together some great tasting rolls. Every day there is a different roll on special here which is a nice touch to keep people happy. The sashimi here is fantastic, dare I say some of the best to date and I have probably been to 25+ sushi restaurants in Vancouver. I don’t know why it took me so long to finally get out to Nanaimo Sushi, but I am glad it happened. I recently visited highly touted Toshi’s Sushi on Main Street and my partner and I both had a better, more satisfying experience here at Nanaimo Sushi.

I used to love this place but having come back a few times lately I realized it’s not what it used to be. It’s still busy and the service is still good but the quality of the sushi is now just average. In particular, their sashimi is just ok whereas it used to be outstanding. I will still come back if I’m in the area but it’s no longer worth travelling for as there are sushi joints near my home that are just as good or better. Overall, disappointed about the downgrade in quality.

Man, this place is BUSY. We came here for lunch with our 6 month infant, and were thankful to be squeezed into a corner so that we only had«neighbors» on one side of the table. We ordered a lot more than we should’ve just because our eyes were larger than our stomachs(well…maybe my stomach is just big period). Here’s a partial list of what we ordered: Assorted Sushi Spider Roll Awesome Roll Smoked Salmon Roll Toro/Uni sashimi Toro nigiri Everything tasted okay per se, but nothing really stood out, whether it be overall freshness of the fish, or any other flavors used to season the rolls. The rather warm environment didn’t help either– it felt a bit too humid in there, perhaps because there was so much body heat with the craziness/bustling atmosphere.

Have never been disappointed with Sushi Nanaimo! Have taken out and eaten in and the food and service has always been top-notch for value sushi. Prices are very good for the amount of food you get and how nicely they plate everything if you’re eating in. If you’re ordering take out with a minimum order of $ 20, call ahead one hour, pay cash, and you get 10% off your bill! Gets pretty busy during lunch time during the week, so be prepared to wait a few minutes if you need a larger table.

It has been roughly a year since I have dined at Sushi Nanaimo so I figure an update is needed. If you are the type that loves huge portions at reasonable prices, this is the place to go! I typically go for the sashimi boat since it was a great variety of sashimi(sweet shrimp, salmon, surf clam and mackerel to name a few) and is never disappointing. We decided to also order an uni sashimi plate and a salmon avocado roll this time around. Personally I thought the uni wasn’t great here since it tasted off. I probably won’t order uni here again. The salmon avocado roll was generous and I like that the rice was seasoned lightly. For roughly $ 4 this roll was a deal. Its a great place for those who want huge portions on a budget.
