This place is your run of the mill sushi joint but the staff are lovely and sweet. The veggie options are pretty good with a little green leaf indicating them on the menu which is handy. It is my go-to place in the neighbourhood because sushi Nanaimo is loud and obnoxious. Not to mention the rice is dry and hard and the rolls fall apart when you try and pick them up. Tentatsu is always packed but the service is slow and surly. They have too many items on the menu which to me, seems sketchy for freshness. The staff at Miyako always greet me with a smile and the food is always fresh and delicious. Keep it up guys!

I would give 3 and half, almost four. The price is reasonable, food is fresh and I didn’t have to wait long.

The service here is fantastic The girls who have served us are always so happy to see us and they work all the time yet are always pleasant and sweet There is always a special for 9.95(used to be 8.95) either way it‘s cheap for 3 menu items of high quality food Great place!

Not bad but not memorable. Just such a typical ordinary sushi joint. Doubt we’ll be back, though there really isn’t anything ‘wrong’ here. Maybe I’m just sick of nearly every place being so mediocre. Truly good sushi needs great rice and it’s rare to find it. Freshness of fish can be okay or spectacular. The line is fine. Even temperature is a huge factor. This place does not excel at any of these, sorry to say.

There was a long lineup at Sushi Nanaimo, so I used Unilocal to find another nearby Japanese restaurant. I decided to give Miyako a try. We(son, daughter and myself) ordered some –California and Negitoro rolls –Miso soup –Saba, scallop, ikura, tuna, and salmon nigiri sushi –Salmon, tuna sashimi –Tempura We all agreed the taste and texture were right on the money. The ingredients in the rolls melded together well. The saba had a rich oily taste to it, and the rest of the raw stuff did not have that awful seafood-y taste you sometimes get when the ingredients are past their best before’s. Even the soup and tea were spot on. Solid across the board. We’ll be coming back, even though it means an across-town drive for us. I’d award Miyako 4 stars if they prove to be consistently good. As it stands, I’ve only been here once, hence a provisional 3 stars. Certainly at least a 3.5 if I could assign half-stars. Bonus: There’s a large, free public parking lot one block to the east of the restaurant, on the north side of Hastings. Access is from behind the alleyway. — Update. I’ve been here several more times. Consistently good. Upped from 3 to 4 stars.

Everything is so fresh, sashimi is so much better the one down the street on Nanaimo. The price is so reasonable, cheaper than most places. Will definitely come back again!

I really like this place! I find Nanaimo sushi obnoxious and have never gone into Tentatsu, but I don’t really like the look of it(looks dirty to me), and Blow Fish is now too far away from where I am. Miyako has a good price point, friendly and patient staff and the food is always really good, fresh fish, tasty rolls and hot tea. I always feel welcome and not rushed. It is my go to sushi place in the neighborhood!

I’ve ordered takeout from here through justeat(never been in the restaurant) — always been really happy with their platters. Decent prices, decent rolls.

My husband and I just moved to East Village, and have tried nearly all the sushi spots close by, and just recently this one. We placed an order for take out, walked up, brought it home, and there was GIANTSPIDER that crawled out of our take out bag. Absolutely disgusted, I called them to inform them… what I got was a lot of disbelief, the girl referred to the spider as ‘spider man’ in our take out box… and then gave me nothing but excuses and doubt that this could have happened. We walked back up, brought the bag of food and the spider. The girl looked in the bag, and told us she didn’t think it came from them, as she pointed to the ceiling, saying there were no spiders and she hadn’t seen any. Doesn’t matter to me how, where or why at that point… the spider was in the bag, with our food, and I was pretty grossed out. She even had a sickened look on her face thinking about the spider! She was acting like a child, panicking and frantically telling us how she’d checked the bag and that she didn’t see it, blah blah blah… at no point did she apologise or show any kind of sympathy, or admit any kind of fault. No refund was offered, just offered to remake our food. Not to mention, she left the bag on top of the Sapporo keg, where the beer tap was touching the inside of this bag which the spider had been crawling all over. I brought that to her attention and she didn’t seem to understand that you pour beer out of that, which will go into a glass that touches people’s mouths! So gross. It’s unfortunate, because the food wasn’t bad, and I can understand that it’s an isolated incident, and I could have excused it had the situation been handled differently by the staff members. Making the food again is just giving us what we wanted from you in the first place — an apology, the *offer* of a refund and sincerity would have made that incident forgivable. The terrible customer service skills alone are enough to not ever go back.

I’ve tried this place twice and neither time inspired me to return. I returned after the first time just in case they were having a «bad day». I found the food lacklustre and just acceptable. The quality of the fish was«meh». The ambiance was actually pretty nice, but I’m more concerned about food at a restaurant. They may improve over time, but when there are other sushi restaurants nearby(that are more passable)… why go here?

We went there on Friday the 4th of April she had Yam avocado roll and salmon sashimi. About three hours after eating she had stomach cramps leading to vomiting and diarrhea. She was sick all day Saturday and half of Sunday. Yes it was food poisoning. When you get your receipt write the time and date on it and the names of the guests. Do this for any restaurant. This is your proof and you may need it.

Was here for dinner and I have to say this place is kinda meh. The unfortunate part is that they have a few competitors around like Blow Fish, Sushi Nanaimo and Tentatsu. They really need something that they r famous for to attract customers to come in asides from the 10% grand opening banner. They have a great location where they r right next to a bus stop. But same goes with Sushi Nanimo and Tentatsu. I was there at around 7 for dinner and we were just thinking of trying this new place out. Didnt have much expectations but ya… it was really no different than any other japanese restaurant that is run by Chinese people. Maybe they should try out«All you can eat» style. Thats something we dont have in this neighborhood for sushi. We ordered salmon sashimi, a bento box, California combo, dragon roll and snow white roll. Bill came up to be 40 something. So thats average for 4 ppl. Rolls were average size. The placements of the salmon sashimi was nicely presented. The place doesnt seem too welcoming. Marketing 101 you seat customers as close to the entrance as possible to show ppl who r walking by that there is ppl eating there. We were seated on the side. There were only 3 other tables that were occupied and none were close to the window. I would give this place a shot only if Sushi Nanimo is closed or line up for a table is way too long. They have lots to work on like the ppl making the sushi should at least wear a hair net or something and uniforms would be nice too. Or at least the same color shirt for employees. Parking is on the streets.
