This place is demented. There seems to be a new and confused server every time I’m there. The sushi is really hit or miss. Can be decent sometimes. I don’t know.

This used to be one of my favourite sushi places, but they have now brought there prices up. Their service has always been really bad, but the food was alway quick and good. I find now paying more for the same dishes, and same slow service not worth my time to go there anymore. There are other sushi restaurant in the area with better service, and better food.

This is a great, not-so-little sushi bar right on The Drive(Commercial Drive). I know you can get great sushi at a ton of places in Vancouver, but most of the cheap places are usually just okay. Britannia is super inexpensive($ 6 bento box that is huge and Chef special rolls for as little as $ 5) and has a nice feel to it as well as having generally great tasting sushi. It’s very much apart of the neighbourhood and even if the employees English isn’t the best, their heart is always in the right place. Lots of daily specials and deals for thrifty sushi eaters.

This is one of my favourite go-to’s on Commercial for a quick, cheap, and tasty sushi meal. They’ve got lots of comfy booth space if you want to bring a group, and it’s usually not very busy. The menu is very diverse and has a lot of great deals and combos. They have online ordering options as well if you’re feeling introverted and don’t want to interact with anybody. I know in the middle of my study marathons sometimes I just want to click a few buttons, show up, and get my food with very little communication. Love their wakame salad, and one of my favourite rolls is their Captain’s Roll; it’s very similar to a California roll but it’s topped with unagi tempura. YUM! Definitely don’t write this place off! Give it a try :)

Very simple! Average/low quality, small portions, bad attitudes. I shall not be going here again considering there are many similar AND better options right near by for the price

Don’t go here if u are ever in a hurry. The last time I came here was during lunch hr with my classmates. A couple of them came earlier to get a table because we already knew they had slow service anyway. We ended up waiting over an hr for a waitress to wait on us. People who came later got their order before we had our orders taken. We filed a complaint and got our orders to go. Instead of apologizing. The waitress was defensive and saying it wasn’t their fault since the place was busy. In their defence, it was full but not busy like usual restaurants like stephos where there is a full house. Brit sushi is also pretty small compared to other places who are busier and still manage to do good job in serving their customers. In the end, my classmates were once agian disappointed and went to class late with takeout boxes.

I’ve walked by here many times on the Drive. I know that it wasn’t the best place on the Drive, however, was craving sushi and it was quiet on a Friday night(sometimes is not a good thing). The simple avocado and sushi roll took a long time to prepare, especially for something as simple with barely anyone in the establishment. I was reasonably occupied ’cause I worked on the second half of my accounting homework while I waited(took 30 minutes to be served). Waitress and host seemed grumpy and couldn’t be bothered with their tables. The sushi itself was good, however, hard to mess up a simple avocado and cucumber sushi.

Given the proximity and the affordability this is our go-to place for sushi. I wouldn’t have said that 6 years ago, but the quality has improved substantially — to be fair it wasn’t that difficult of a challenge. Gone are the days of cold/mushy yam rolls! Everything is pretty standard, the prices are fair and the service is alright. Once during the spring we went in and sat down. No one came to our table and we ended up leaving after 20 minutes of waiting for our existence to be acknowledged. That was a one time thing, they’re usually quite on it and the wait is minimal — both food and service — even when the place is packed. I have to say I do miss the miserable girl that worked there for years. Having the menus tossed onto the table in passing and then taking our order without speaking a word was impressive. The biggest accomplishment of my life was when I could finally make her smile. This took a while — as in years.

We went there on holiday Monday for the first time. Our group of 3 ordered about $ 60 worth of food, a few speciality rolls, some appys and a few other plates. The place is a tad run down, but aside from that, the service and the quality of food were great. I was very pleased as I was not expecting such good sushi. I really liked the spicy combo, it was super fresh and the fish tasted awesome. They also had a decent beer special which was a nice treat. If you can get past the rather run down appearance of this place, I bet you’ll be pleasantly surprised by the food.

So my usual sushi place basically wiped most of their menu off their delivery, so I came across this one on just-eat so my co worker and I decieded to order for lunch. This is by far THEWORST sushi I have ever tasted in my life. Not just the worst sushi, but the WORSTFOOD!!! I had a chicken Teryaki box, and teh chicken was fatty, and dry, and sometimes I thought I wasn’t even eating chicken! The rolls were so full of mayo, i wanted to gag, and I love mayo!!! There was very little rice, and chock full of fake crab meat and mayo and tiny bits of avocado. The tuna and salmon rolls were inedible. They tasted off, and were vile and disgusting to even taste. Tempura was over battered, and the vegetables were hard. I cannot believe I wasted money on this place. DONOTEATHERE!!!

new owners now. but nothing’s really changed, same staff & average décor. Nice good thing is it’s the only sushi place i know that has an outdoor patio, esp. on the Drive, it’s refreshing. Not authentic, not surprising, it’s alright. spacious place.

I used to order some sushi from them. It was pretty good, I found the sushi to be quite good. The quality was there. The Tamago was sweet enough as it should be. The real crab California roll is an excellent idea when you are gluten intolerant. They provide Sockeye Salmon too which is nice. I will order back from them !!

Well, that was alright. I popped in here after finishing work at 8:30pm on Sunday and needing sustenance, and as i didn’t expect much, i was disappointed. I’d say this place was on par with every other sushi joint on Commercial drive: booth seating like in a diner, weird colours and details that suggest they took over the space from a place that served a different ethnic food, and the«daily» special written on a plain piece of paper taped to the wall(and you just know that paper has been up for way more than 24 hours. More like 24 months.) I find that if i stay away from fried foods and the really cheap rolls at these sort of places, you usually don’t get steered too wrong. I had a miso soup, tuna tataki and one of their house special rolls with tuna, cream cheese and crab meat. I was impressed with the tataki because it didn’t have that nasty, pungent taste that some cheaper places’ tuna has, but i really wish they put more of the tataki sauce onto the dish. If there aren’t any spices on the tuna, then pan searing the edges of it doesn’t make much of a difference between tataki and sashimi… Basically, when you’re ordering tataki what you’re saying is ‘i would just drink the tataki sauce if i could, but since i don’t wanna gross everyone out i’m just gonna dip this fish into it first, mmkay?‘ Aside from that though, the service was good– it wasn’t super friendly, but it was near closing time so i understand that everyone has pretty much checked out by this point– the place was clean, the prices were typical. It definitely isn’t a sushi destination and Ginger Sushi still is my fave for what’s in the area, but i still liked it better than the nearby Sake Maki.

Oh, Britannia… where do I begin? I go to Britannia because they have a cheap and filling sushi special of California Rolls, Yam Rolls, and Tuna Roll. The simplest 3 that I could ask for. Their udon, while unimpressive, is tasty, so I continue to go. It’s also the closest sushi place to work, aside from Fujiya(which is great, except it’s hard to constantly pay $ 4 for california rolls.) But. The quality is such a hit or miss. Today, the tuna was clearly going bad. It had the most awful, putrid taste. My california rolls came apart. Eat here at your own discretion — it might be great, it might be absolutely awful. but it’s hard to predict.

Very inexpensive, fresh sushi. Very mom’n’pop, so not the best date location, maybe, but a great place to get takeaway, or have a casual bite. Servers seem to be reluctant junior members of the family, but who cares, if the food comes out good and fast.

No. omygahdno. There is no way in any western-world that sushi should be this cheap. No. Yes, you will get a lot of food for a very tiny bit of money, but no. No, you will not feel good after consuming. Ogadno. Poor cuts of fish, too much rice in the rolls — and what. the eff. is. that smell? No.

Well, tonight this place made my «stop going there» list. I’ve been to Britannia a few times, but the last 3 times have just gotten progressively worse. Generally poor service, I think the waitresses are the owner’s daughters, or at least one of them. Slowly shuffles her feet to your table, obviously no interest in working there at all. The previous time we ate, service was crap, the food was fine. But it for some reason was extremely hot inside. We were sweating in our seats, so we ate and promptly left. This time, it was incredibly hot again, bad service again, and our food was bad. We ordered the special, where you choose 3 items for each of us. I chose a spicy tuna roll, yam and avocado roll and the spicy fried chicken. He chose 2 spicy tuna rolls and the spicy fried chicken. The sushi arrived first, overcooked rice, extremely mushy spicy tuna(like it was put in a blender), the avocado/yam roll was fine. Then 15 minutes after we ate our rolls(I watched the clock) our chicken arrived. It was so salty that we both could not eat ours. We paid, told the waitress about the salty chicken, and no tip.

Despite the allure of their $ 5.75 sushi lunch special, there is no reason to give Britannia Sushi a second glance. With so much great sushi available in Vancouver there is just no excuse for the taste or look of what is served here. My tuna roll was falling apart had been squashed by some ill trained sushi chef in the back room.(I’ll post a picture to accompany my description). In addition, although service is prompt, it is very intermittent and sparse. Don’t expect to see your server after you get your food until you flag them down for the bill. If you have a car and are willing to make the 10 minute drive over to Main and King Ed, try Dream Sushi as an alternative. They have a $ 6.50 lunch special that knocks the socks off of anything Britannia Sushi has to offer.

So I guess I’m the kind of person who likes to be left alone by the wait staff. What other peeps complain about brings me great joy. And I love this about Britannia. They come out, give you tea, take your order and then peace out. Good. I have no desire to have fake conversation with someone. The sushi special is my go to order. Not the most imaginative order but it tastes good and is dirt cheap. $ 6 bucks for 18 pieces and a miso soup? Heck yes! Its a tuna roll, california roll and a yam tempura roll. I recently branched out and tried the yam roll with avocado on top, YUM! I had the agedashi tofu as well, which wasn’t the greatest I’ve ever had but still tasty. They just did renos so it looks a lot nicer on the inside.

Went there last night with a group of us before we hit the Eastside Cultural Crawl. They let us make a reservation which was handy. The décor is far from appetizing and we sat beside the beverage fridge and noticed a couple of shriveled up lemon halves looking lonely in the bottom. Our server was likely the daughter of the owners. She dragged her feet like any self-respecting teenager would who’s stuck working at the family business on a Friday night. She was actually pleasant enough, gave us separate bills and got everything right at least! The food was totally tasty and nicely presented and the prices were decent. The Spider Roll and various Dragon Rolls were my faves. If I was meeting up with peeps on the East Side again I’d have no problem going here.
