Best sushi in the marpole area for sure! Absolutely love it here. The owners are super friendly and the service is fantastic. But the best of all is the house roll. Blew me away how tasty it was the first time I have had it. This is my 4th or 5th time coming here and I will continue to come to support. I wish all sushi places were like this in Vancouver :) come and see for yourself.

We had an early dinner here one evening. The lobster spring rolls were delicious as were the house and treasure island role. Strongly recommend this place, prices were good and the service was great.

I’ve been here several times(maybe more than 10 times) and I can say this place is a hidden gem in Vancouver. I’ve had ‘Granville roll’, ‘Lunch /Dinner bento’, ‘Monkey brain’, ‘Alaska roll’, and ‘Sushi combo’. All items are amazing! The service is great and they are very frendly. I’ll definitely go again.

I came here on a kid-free date night with the hubby and was quite disappointed, especially given all of the great reviews. The space is nice and clean and there was absolutely no wait for a table… in fact we were the only ones there! Another couple came to the restaurant about 15 minutes after us so two tables in total. We ordered the negitoro roll, salmon avocado roll, dynamite roll, salmon sashimi, spider roll and chopped scalloped roll to share. First thing to note is that they did not have wild salmon available. It was not an option on the menu. Also, the rolls had way too much rice around them. Unreal amounts of rice on the salmon avocado roll and spider roll in particular and very little tuna belly in the negitoro roll. Overall, a nice place with friendly staff but I wouldn’t return for the food.

Came to give this place a try for dinner after work. After reading the great reviews I had high expectations, but sadly my experience was not as positive as most other Unilocalers posting reviews. I ordered a bento box and asked for a substitution in the roll that came with the box, which they obliged. My roll came out and was fantastic, well put together and tasty. It’s been thirty minutes since my roll came out, no sign of the rest of my box and no answer as to when my food would be coming. When I told them I was cancelling the rest of my order, suddenly my food was ready. Will not be returning and would not recommend this establishment.

Couldn’t make a yakiudon correctly. Waitress apologize and said will make a new one. Chef gave us a hard time. Won’t come back

Had the Marpole Bento. Very good. The group running this place knows what they are doing. A bit pricing for Marpole, compared to Yale Town, but I will come back.

I have been to Sushi Hoon probably 10 times or so. When I first came here I used to order their bento boxes which are very good. Nowadays I order their special rolls which are worth every penny plus some. I can’t really comment too much about their sashimi as I have always really enjoyed their cooked food… and well I am a creature of habit. Serving sizes are large and quality is always great. I have had the following items: — House Bento A(chicken or beef teriyaki, tempura, alaska roll, gyoza, salad) — 4.5 stars — Spider Roll — 4.5 stars — Granville Roll — 5 stars — Big Boss Roll — 5 stars — Dragon Roll — 5 stars — House Roll — 5 stars — Assorted Tempura(includes fish too!) — 5 stars — Tiger roll — 4 stars — Chicken Teriyaki — standard — sushi Combo for 2 — 4.5 stars — bread pudding — 4 stars If you are one who generally goes to $$$$ Japanese restaurants you will likely be disappointed. I am all about getting good value and Sushi Hoon delivers in a big way. What really separates this place from the other Japanese restaurants is the service. The sushi chef/owner always makes an effort to come to the table and asks how everything is. His wife is also very polite when serving us. Tonight I went with my parents, wife and daughter… the bill before tip was under $ 60. If you are in the area definitely stop by.

Great food done with great heart! My husband and I have been coming here since they’ve opened last year. We regularly eat here @ least once a week. The sushi and other dishes are made very skillfully and are always v yummy! Nice, fresh ingredients, always! Much, much better than standard Jpse fare. We especially love their agedashi tofu, katsu don and gyoza. These 3 dishes are examples of how they take a standard japanese dish & spin it– the agedashi tofu is especially crispy, the katsu don is served w a sparingly light sauce, & the gyoza is drizzled w smth tangy. yum, yum! Best bonus is it is run by a lovely, lovely couple, who always are welcoming to us and our baby!

From the outside Sushi Hoon looks like just another sushi restaurant. One of 10000 in Vancouver. Inside was a completely different story. What a great place for fresh sushi and delicious Japanese food. Great ambience, music and service. Chef Hoon makes the best chicken karaage in town. One of Marpole’s hidden gems.

Sushi Hoon quietly opened up, and in turn, opened Marpole up to a whole new world of delicious, quality made Japanese food. I am lucky enough to work nearby, so Sushi Hoon has become a staple in my small Rolodex of places to eat in Marpole. The lovely couple that run this place are hard-working, effortlessly kind, and extremely talented. Chef Hoon’s creations are beautifully plated, fresh, and creative. There hasn’t been a single thing I didn’t like! Chef Hoon’s grilled tuna sashimi is one of the most unique and delicious dishes I have ever tried(both in the realm of sushi and outside it) – it is tuna sashimi that has been dredged on one side in a special spice rub and then lightly grilled. It’s served in a bed of organic greens with a drizzle of sauce. It is smoky, sweet, and salty all at the same time while maintaining the buttery melt-in-your-mouth texture of sashimi. My favourite appetizer is what I consider to be an homage to Indiana Jones – the«Monkey Brain» is crab stuffed inside an avocado and then deep fried. COMEON, tell me that doesn’t make you want to immediately start the car and drive on over to Marpole. I know it does… so get going!

Sushi hoon! Can I say more about how good their sushi and service is? First time we visited, we ordered Togo. Most places like matsuyama think that they can just slop on to go but it doesn’t get more annoying when sushi doesn’t look or taste like what you would normally get in the restaurant. The Togo was amazing, rolls were very good. Sushi king was my sushi go for a long time. But their service has unfortunately become very sloppy. Always made mistakes to my orders and charging me extra and forgetting to put my orders in my bag. 2nd time we concluded that this is one of the best places here in the marpole area. Their prices are just a little more pricey but they’re not really pricey!!! It’s really good quality sushi with excellent service at a decent price !!! I fully support this restaurant and hope they grow into bigger stores like in Richmond west van and all around. Their sushi is really amazing !!! This is coming from someone who has been in the sushi business for 8 and more years. Highly recommend people to not be afraid to order because it’s all so good !!!

The outside looks pretty small, but once you walk in, it is bigger than I imagined. It was clean and had a modern feel to it. My friend and I were greeted very enthusiastically and were seated. We had a really hard time trying to decide on what to order because we kept looking at the pictures on the menu and going«Ooh, that looks good! Oh but this one! Man this one looks good too!» We settled on ordering an appetizer, the Monkey Brain(a must since it was so close to Halloween… just the name itself made it sound so appetizing). We also ordered 2 special rolls, the Taro Root Roll and Big Boss Roll, as well as the Assorted Sashimi. The lady was very considerate of the table space and asked if we wanted the special rolls on the same dish. She later came out and gave us complimentary miso soups. Service was excellent; they kept checking up on us and asking how we were doing, and refilling our tea when they saw we had finished. Food came out at a decent time. The sashimi was fresh; the rolls were nicely presented and very big. The Monkey Brain had a really nice texture. It was deep-fried on the outside, so it was crispy, the avocado was creamy and there was tuna encased in the avocado which gave it a little chewiness. My friend and I left the restaurant feeling full and satisfied.

This restaurant is the BEST sushi in the Marpole area. Owned and run by a very nice Korean couple, the head chef Jung Hoon for which the restaurant is named, used to be the executive chef at the Sheraton Airport Hotel and his attention to tastes and textures is amazing. His wife is the always smiling hostess and waitress. I eat here weekly and am working my way through the menu. Favourite appetizers are the Monkey Brain(deep fried crab meet, with avacado) and the Crab Cakes. Favourite rolls are the Big Boss and the Crazy Boy. I have not been disappointed yet! Jung has on every dine-in visit created a special dish just for the table. A complimentary dish to sample and add to the must order for next time list. They recently catered a work lunch and everybody loved the freshness and tastes. When I brought my daughter with me for lunch over the summer, the hostess was very generous with kid friendly expanding towel tricks and kid friendly plates and utensils. High quality food for reasonable prices.

Extra star for the personal chef experience when he pops by with 4 nigiri pieces, generous size too. Does feel like another Sushi Town or Gami Sushi, another sushi joint run by the Korean factory lol. Ordered the: Crispy Crunchy: the most preferred Granville Roll: interesting with pan-fried garlic over salmon sashimi California roll: fake crab imitation but still good. Only complaint was the rice just a tad too thick. But it’s worth a repeat b/c it’s probably the cleanest, modern décor for a sushi place in Marpole. Lots free street parking around the corner. Still has a way to catch up to Sushiholics and all, but their friendly service makes up for it. Complimentary miso soup too. nice booth seating.

Based on the few great reviews, I looked forward to trying out Sushi Hoon. Finally visited Fri night, and couldn’t have been more disappointed. The ambiance was nice and they opened not long ago… I noticed it either ran by Chinese or Korean. The prices are pretty steep. I have no problem paying upscale prices in an upscale restaurant, but it didn’t seem appropriate for this place. We just ordered few dishes to try and lucky that didn’t order any sashimi. Tuna tartar — marinated too much and tuna quite fishy Cake Cake — It presented nicely and it tasted good Spicy Chopped scallop cone — The sauce quite spicy but chopped scallop wasn’t fresh! Tiger and Paradise roll — It looked good with green salad and rice paper wrapped roll. Mediocre food Granville tower –The sashimi were so fishy… I didn’t think they have real crab for California roll, so didn’t bother to order it. The service was great but this is not the place for me.

Great value for some pretty good food. Sushi Hoon is definitely an excellent and welcomed addition to Marpole! There are about six other places down the three blocks of this neighbourhood and I would definitely rank this up in the first or second spot. Prices are on par with the other places, though not as cheap as Sushi King House down the block(but who can really compete with their prices?) I ordered some nigiri, sashimi, a special roll, and a spicy tuna roll. The rolls were pretty standard — nothing shabby. I’m not really a special roll lover though, so I don’t have too much to say. The nigiri was quite fresh. They seared the scallop nigiri I ordered though, which was different than my usual. The tuna was soft and didn’t have the«just out of the freezer» taste(thank god!). The salmon sashimi was wild salmon and it was probably some of the better wild salmon I’ve had in the city. Place has nice décor and is decently sized. Service is good too. The chef came out to greet me personally, which was nice. We received complimentary miso soup and my friend got a free piece of toro(I didn’t though, presumably because I ordered one already). I suspect they’re doing this to boost their appeal since they’re pretty new — but hey, I can’t complain about free food. While it’s not comparable to the best in Vancouver or more upscale places(hence the four stars), it’s definitely up there in terms of Marpole quality and«local sushi shop» quality for their service, food quality, and value. Considering I live in this neighbourhood, I would definitely choose to come here over the other places down the block — I can’t wait to come back and try more items from their menu(lobster and shrimp spring rolls? Yes please!)

Okay, so out of the 4 sushi places in Marpole, I’d say this place is #2 or #3(depending on what you order), but #1 or #2 if you have a lot of time to wait(and also depending on what you order). Been here twice now, and for both times, I waited a long time to get my food. If you want to take it to go, might wanna call 30~40 minutes ahead of time. If you’re dining in, might wanna expect about 30~40 minutes to get your food. From the looks of it, the presentation of their food is quite nice, so that’s probably why it takes so long. The nigiri pieces are smaller than most places, so I was a little disappointed when I got them. But their special rolls are very delicious. I had the Big Boss Roll while my boyfriend had the Tank Roll. Both were very flavorful and memorable. I really recommend getting the special rolls, as they are quite unique! Wasn’t really a fan of their Bento boxes; it was just meh. I had the Sushi Bento to go, and the salad was nowhere to be seen! DUNDUNDUN(and later I found out that the salad dressing is pretty yumz too)! But as mentioned, their nigiri sizes are kinda disappointing, so meh, meh, meh. TL;DR: Get the special rolls + sashimi, and maybe couple of appetizers(#1 in Marpole, IMO). But if you want regular sushi(#2 in Marpole, IMO), go elsewhere.
