What this joint offers definitely has seen better days imo, as their best days were back in 2010 – 2011 when it first opened yet as a Marpole resident, I keep coming back for the value food and location. The ambiance is generally comfortable though signs of being dated starts to show. However the real deal is their value combos and rolls, which not only make for a more than satisfying meal but will also keep you full, all for half the price that many Japanese restaurants in town offer. Decent food, timely service and minutes access make it a solid Marpole option.

Love this hidden gem in Marpole. It’s been here for a good number of years, and usually dine in with friends on a last-minute whim. Actually, been doing more pickup due to their excellent online ordering system on their website. Delivery’s reliable too. Service can be hit and miss though, in terms of getting the food out but at least, they’re apologetic over delays.

This establishment is best described as Japanese for the masses in Marpole. Their polo shirt-wearing sushi chef exemplifies the casual atmosphere. They sure offer quite a bit of food for the prices they’re charging. Bento A is definitely their value leader, while the Katsu Don a steal at $ 6.95. Spicy tuna sashimi consists of several thin slices of tuna covered with what tasted like bottled Thai sweet chili sauce and obviously is a letdown. If your take-out order includes anything other than their specials you get 10% off the total.

New renovations and new website, . It’s the biggest Japanese restaurant in Marpole, so best for big groups. And lots of booth seating ;) Rainforest roll is their signature one.

We had just a short amount of time to get lunch. I was very pleasantly surprised. Excellent prices, nice quality fish and fast service. It’s not high end but I would love to have a place like this near my home to go to once a week.

OPENHOLIDAYS 10% OFFTAKEOUT Good quality food, great prices. Very diverse menu, including plenty of hot(read: not raw) food for those afraid of sashimi. Service is typical of a family run joint. Nice & friendly but usually only 1 – 2 people working. Plenty of «special» rolls(i.e. Large & interesting recipes). Oh, if you stay in make sure you bring a sweater — seems like they don’t turn the heat on.

I have only ever ordered take-out from here so I have nothing to say about the dine-in experience. I always order their rolls and they are always great, the price is also great! Great bang for your buck, if you may. I have probably tried all of the rolls and I have never been disappointed. If you call in your order, they give you 10% off, which makes the take-out experience even better. Decent food for a great price!

This is your typical Asian-run Japanese restaurant that emphasizes value over everything else. Their Bento E comes with salad, soup, tuna and salmon sashimi, nigiri sushi, spicy tuna roll, and unagi don. It’d be terrific value if the unagi don didn’t come with just one piece of unagi(!). Also tried their oyako don and let’s just say it’s quite far from being authentic. But for under $ 20 altogether, one really shouldn’t be complaining, especially with the amount and variety of items they’re offering. Plus the lady handling cash duty was surprisingly nice and cheerful. A deservedly solid three stars.

Dishonest restaurant chef and false advertising. Food is mediocre. I won’t go back.

I’ve been living in God neighbourhood for two years. It’s detrimental to have a solid sushi place when you move to a new neighbourhood. The food was amazing. And then pretty good. And then barely mediocre, then sub-par. They have consistently messed up my orders(which are relatively simple and basically the same each time) Only eat here if you prefer screaming children who are too impatient to wage for their parents, who are the wait staff to feed them, of if you’re up for dissatisfying sushi.

Ikura is pretty new to the Marpole neighborhood and we were a bit hesitant in trying it out. Since we haven’t had amazing japanese sushi in Vancouver. All the sushi that we have had has been made by the ready made sticky rice… which not tasty at all. My experience at Ikura was great!

It’s about as authentic japanese as chinese takeout. Budget-priced, above-average portions, adequate quality. I think this place has seen better days. Current staff seem rather unmotivated to produce higher quality food.

Their $ 9.99 menu is great. Comes with miso soup and salad. However, doesn’t come with soy sauce, you have to ask for it.

Easy to use menu(minimal decisions), friendly staff, and the price is right! $ 20 for 2 people with 6 items, and a free miso and small salad.

They have a deal all the way at the BACK of the menu for 9.99 for three items — what an amazing deal AND they give you free miso and salad. The three items are very large and delicious, and you can order toro sushi(soft, fatty and delicious!!), chopped scallop rolls and basically anything except sashimi(but just order nigiri — that’s available). Seriously, this place is awesome although sometimes the sushi rice breaks apart on my nigiri, but for the size, value and temperature of fish, this place is perfect. Totally out of the way for me but I stop by here and the neighboring Café Mai Mai whenever I can!

[Marpole Sushi] I’ve been coming here over the past few months and I’m still trying to figure out why I do. I think it’s a combination of location and value. The real feature here is the«three-for-$ 10» menu. The number of choices is vast ranging from fried gyozas(6), to three pieces of specialty nigiri(counts as 1 item), tempura, udons, sushi rolls, salad, etc. There must be almost 80 items to choose from. The fish and rice quality here is decent enough given the price. Portion sizes are excellent for big eaters too. The restaurant itself is quite homey with ample seating for 30 guests. Of the times I’ve been, there have never been more than a dozen people sitting in. Often, we’re the only ones. That said, you’d expect to get stellar service since there’s no one else to cater to. Not so. Service isn’t terrible but it certainly needs work. At times, the servers are tough to flag down often hiding in the back. Food can take some time to arrive and often gets delivered to the wrong person. The service isn’t a dealbreaker since you get what you pay for. Sometimes it’s nice to have the place to yourself if you want a place to hang out. For me, Ikura is comfort and convenience. I wouldn’t go out of my way to come here but pop by if you’re looking for a decent meal at a decent price.

Finally had a chance to check this place out today, based on my friend Vincent N’s recommendation. The place was pretty deserted except for 1 table when we came in today. Some people did come and go though, to pick up take-out. Parking is available in the tiny lot(some 6 spots), as well as along Granville. The place is short staffed. I think there are a whopping 2 people working there, and half the time we could’ve pulled a dine-and-dash. The waitress would disappear for 10 minutes, during which we would sit there with empty tea cups. As for the food? It is decent quality for sure, but a bit on the pricey end. Unagi rice — nice large chunks of eel. Mango paradise(some roll with mango slices on top) — mango was fresh. Nice multi-coloured tobiko on top. BC roll — decent size, but not much fish skin. It was filled with cooked salmon. Sashimi Combo(Salmon, hamachi, toro) — really good. Nice decorative layout too. But at basically $ 1 a piece, all I could think of was how much longer I needed sit in front of my work computer. The food isn’t bad, but the items listed above set us back some $ 43. This place ain’t no Sushi King.
